GTE RACE PREVIEW

9342646398_bd99705d4c_o.jpg

It’s the last race of the first season of the GTE Championship and where better to finish the season that at the
Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, nestled in the Ardennes countryside.

The Championship is wide open and no one is safe at the top in any class. Four drivers vie for 1st place in the overall championship, with three drivers in with a shout in the Pro Drivers division.

As for the Am Drivers class, FlyingFox has secured 3rd but JetStar and Furinkazen are separated by only two points.

The Manufacturers Championship looks to be a two horse race between Chevrolet and Ferrari.
3rd can be still snatched away from Aston Martin by Ford.

24 Hours to the final race of the season.

Whats a good time around spa?

I haven't turned any laps...

50/50 if I can make it tonight 👍

So who's joining us for tonight?

That's 3 Gokartman is joining :) .

I'm in. Sorry Furi :p

I'm in

If Smuffy finishes first or second, he wins.

If either Snowcrash or Jet wins, they need Smuffy to come 3rd or below.

If R1600 wins, he needs Smuffy to come 4th or below.

If someone else wins, it's almost guaranteed for Smuffy, likely needing to finish 5th or 6th.

For Pro, Smuffy needs 2nd. Turbo needs 1st and Smuffy 3rd. Snowcrash needs 1st and Smuffy 5th

Am is whoever finishes ahead between Jet and Furi.

^So people know what has to be done.

Hoping to help Ferrari win the makes tonight :)

Got my understeer sorted. Looking forward to the race :)

Room opening, quali at quarter to the hour!

I am so sorry about the aborted start, I was trying to get out of the way and I seen a few guys grouping up on my side of the track, so I went over to the left-hand side.

At least I scored points, but I'm astounded by those who can pull off 2:45s while I'm languishing in the 2:50s.

Smuffy champion, and my first one. YES!!!

I'll still be the first to say I hate rain races :)

Not me... rain races are one of the few chances I have to shine... If only I wasn't short on fuel I could have fought for a podium finish with only 1 stop...

I also could of won, if I had fueled a bit lighter I would of been ahead of RPH after the first round of stops then hopefully ahead of him and yera once I had made my second stop, then I compounded my misery by crashing and getting damage while 3rd with 5 mins left which meant I finished 6th in the end

I don't like the rain either. My car certainly didn't today. I was way off the pace.:yuck:

Congrats Furi on taking the AM trophy, it turned out to be a really close battle although we didnt see too much season although we didn't see too much of each other on the road.

Tonight was the culmination of a near perfect run from me and the right circumstances. I always enjoy Spa, I always run well there - TOCA test a couple nights back I was fastest. So when it started raining as I got a clear lap in that was only bettered by Gokartman, and it seemed to go well.

Start was a pain, when DK decided to stray across the track smashing into me and Yeratel. Re start of the start. And my god that pace lap was treacherous. Yeratel spun it at pace speed, Gokartman nearly crashed, I had a couple huge slides... I was happy to get a good start and take the lead as everyone started slipping and sliding. Gokartman spun at Blanchimont and collected Neljack and up to 3 others (5 cars pitted end of that lap) to result in a caution. At the restart I drove away from RPH's Ford for a few laps, his braking somewhat scaring me with a few near misses. Chris was also pretty quick, obviously the Ford, like the Lotus is a fan of trickier conditions.

RPH got me and was away. I was paying more attention to Jet's position. I had to beat Jet to win AM, simple as that... until Gokartman showed up to muddy the waters. Fox had an off and was never in contention in the 4th and final AM entry. I was going to go with a 1 stop if possible, but after I run 40 minutes it was pretty arse-happy everywhere. When everyone else (including Jet, who had an earlier half spin reported at Les Combes) decided to pit, I elected to as well. Took a lot of fuel to be sure. Then I got out, but Jet wasn't far behind. I grabbed Gokartmans draft and we got away, and midway through the second hour Jet disappeared, a clash with Fox (Blanchimont possibly) had dropped him way down.

But it wasn't quite over. I was lucky, firstly to not get eliminated by Chris and his usual "drive hard, then too hard, and then nearly wreck the nearest guy to you" approach. Smuffy seemed to have had this effect on him as well, he was boldly defensive - did he not know I was not in overall contention? I lost a lot of time behind him and my brakes let me down on way into Les Combes and we hit hard, front vibrations meant my next stop was going to be around 10 minutes early (though I did manage 3 laps with it).

So with me seemingly a long way ahead of Jet (Gokartman pitted twice, including for a crash with DK, and was still ahead, Snowcrash had also had an accident and disappeared backwards) I just relaxed. I had no intention of getting involved in a scrap with Yeratel, Smuffy, and ChrisJohnson. Chris crashed anyway, Yeratel nearly ran out of fuel and Smuffy drove away. Gokartman's manic charge (He would have won easily if it wasn't for his accidents and spins) put him on top of AM and made the points countback a bit more unnerving, but I had Jet. By 1 point.

That's some way to win your first GTP title. Commiserations to Jet, but it has been a wonderful battle.

Furi :gtpflag:

My race was pretty simple, even if I couldn't finish.

Free-practise was horrible. I was running a tune that had worked brilliantly at other tracks but had awful understeer here at Spa. Thanks to smuffy for that tune!

Quali went quite well. The car felt great on the warm up lap and then my flying lap was much faster than my other laps and I managed 9th position.

I knew the start was going to be scary. I managed to get a good start and got past SnowCrash and pulled a good gap over Fox. Then gokartman spun and neljack collided with him but I hit the brakes and avoided the spinning Astons. Started 6th from behind smuffy but had a bad start. This meant I lost out to the leading pack. After that Chris flew past me and then after a couple laps I got passed on both sides down the kemmel straight by the recovering kartman and neljack. Then my tyres started to go off and SnowCrash and R1600 also passed me. I then pitted and afterwards my laps were 3 seconds a lap faster. R1600 gave up and left promoting me up to 10th then SnowCrash pitted and I got up 9th. However, before my seconds stop I got damage and lost loads of lap time. Then I pitted, put it in the wall going through Au-Rouge before having to leave. If it hadn't rained I might have been faster but oh well. Well done champs!

That first stint was fantastic, picked my way through the field and reduced a 7 second gap to the leaders, shame that in the rest of the race I seemed to get worse as I weren't too bad during the middle of the race then lost time after my 2nd stop. Enjoyed tonight's race mainly because of my competitiveness.

As for a 2nd season we'll probably have to wait until GT6 until the next season whenever the game is set to come out.

Also isn't it funny that we started at Le Mans during the Le Mans 24 hours and finish at Spa during the Spa 24 hours.
