It started of as little rubber toy horses ponies (duh) in the early 80's. Pretty sure it then got a cartoon, then a film, then was reinvented every few years.
.

So basically the cartoon then. Pokemon's popularity is multi-faceted and not only are there ponies to love in it that are far better :sly:, there is tons of other things. I still don't see the correlation, Pokemon is so wide ranging and popular in everything they do that people easily can relate to one another, as to MLP the only time I saw it a thing was joining this forum.

Its arguable any sort of figurine collection is childish if you conform to those standards of judgement that dictate what is 'cool' to collect and what isn't.

Fair enough, didn't say there was a correlation, just pointing out that it's been a line of toys for 30 years, not just a TV show.

Obviously though it depends on your exposure. To this day I have no idea what Pokemon is actually about, what it is, how it works, or that kind of stuff. I'm 36, it's entirely passed me by at every opportunity, none of my friends were 'into' Pokemon (as far as I know), so it's nothing to me. Between memories of being 5 and tying to cut the tails off my sisters toy ponies, and the brony situation that erupted here, I've got nothing on MLP either. As an outsider to both, why would my perception of either be any different, and on the topic of the thread, why would I then see either as cooler than the other?

Promotes a YET ANOTHER highly unrealistic beauty standard for horses. 👎

Not a fan, but earns a Sub Zero from me on account of how useful it is for identifying insecure jerks who care too much about what other people like.

I have no opinion on the show since I've never watched it, so meh.

Watched a few. Didn't enjoy it, so that itself would be a meh.

It loses points for both the Bronies and Anti-Bronies who fight over this subject to the death. That's uncool.

They make plush covers for male marital aids based off the series. Yeah, SU for me.

I watched it one time. I have friends who are a part of the fan base (They also happen to be adolescent males), and they asked me if I liked it. I told them no, then they asked if I'd ever watched it. I said no.

They talked me into trying it, and, well, I didn't like it, as I had predicted.

Going with Meh here.

What people watch or like is none of my business, even if I don't understand the appeal. Cartoons aren't cool and cartoons with a huge fanbase really aren't cool.

No I no you didn't I was asking in general cause @TB did, basically I'm just trying to understand this better. That's the problem though I'm 25 and I understand it because it was a major thing in my generation and subsequent generations but MLP has always (for me) been an on and off type thing, while Pokemon is consistent. As for the rest of your post I have no idea, I myself am just partaking in banter so don't take me as serious as you seem to be.

Also all you need to know is...'ya gotta catch'em all!'

Seems I missed quite an explosion here... over nothing at all, as is usually the case.

Don't see what the hang-up is over being an adult fan of Pokemon... I know a lot of younger thirty-somethings who still play and collect... and it's an obsession they share with their children, as well.

Like MatsikMonk, I missed it, as well... It came out after my time, and I was never a big GameBoy player.

I don't see the difference.

Pokemon stars a boy, but it has fans of both(all) genders. Some of the biggest Pokemon addicts I know are girls. My nieces love it a lot.

The "for boys" thing is just so... errh... 80's. Nowadays, girls make up a huge part of the media market, and designing shows and products with cross-gender appeal is much easier now that we aren't telling boys they have to act like misogynistic alpha males 24/7, anymore.

To be fair, MLP started as a franchise pushing girl's toys... and the toy line is directly marketed towards girls, but the cartoon is rather gender neutral. (I watched most of the first season, just to see what it was about) Switch the genders of the main characters and it doesn't affect the story one bit.

Nothing wrong with that at all. I think the sole reason was just to give it as an example since both are cartoons targeted at children but with large adult fanbases. :)

I'd rather be locked in a room full of bronies enjoying a MLP:FIM marathon than suffer one minute of an impassioned anti-brony rant.

Hence why I voted sub zero. I personally find the show tedious and mildly irritating, but the fact of the matter is that the guys who like it are merely guys who like it and aren't insecure about it. The people who actually hate on it (rather than just ignore it because the fandom is nothing to do with them) are clearly insecure in some way and feel some sort of need to prove themselves.

That to me is what coolness is all about, just being who you are and not worrying that others are out to judge you for every minutiae of your personality.

I think bronies are a curious phenomenon, but vehement anti-bronies weird me the eff out. I'd rather be locked in a room full of bronies enjoying a MLP:FIM marathon than suffer one minute of an impassioned anti-brony rant.
I'm not a fan of MLP (i'm anti-bronie) as i didn't really like it and i never understood why bronies likes it but i'm not that guy who hates bronies. I'm okay with those who watching it and i have no problem with someone watching it. Let them be free to watch anything they want.

Dear God this makes absolutely no sense.

Also, "for boys"

Wait what? i thought anti bronie means someone who don't watch MLP?

I must understood something quite wrong.

No, it's like atheists and antitheists.

Atheist means you don't believe in God, antitheists means you hate religion/believe it's a detriment to humanity, or something along those lines.

You just aren't a part of the fanbase. Anti-brony would mean you are against them.

I think its fine for my kids. Its better than a lot of the other kids shows out there for younger kids.

I'll watch it on occasion with them, but its nothing I'll go out of my way to watch.
