Contrarian design can't - alone - make something cool. If this is cool because it does everything unusual from an engineering perspective, then the Aztek is a cool car from a design perspective.
Interesting for sure, but it resembles a three-wheeled airstream caravan crossed with the wienermobile. 3 wheeled vehicles are never cool, so uncool it is.
And for those saying that non-car-people wouldn't c are about it, please. The Pope would care about it if he saw you drive by in one. Santa Claus would ask to ride in it. It's an absolutely, incredibly unique car, no one in the entire planet would not turn and point at it for whatever reason you want, but indifference? never.
A car(?) that is fantastically interesting in every way, utterly unconcerned with convention, and lacks even a whiff of pretentiousness. Every head would turn, every where you went, every time you went there. Unquestioningly sub-zero.
Well, I dunno. Even if they point and laugh, it's kinda cool because it's ridiculous but in an absurd, don't-care-about-consequences way. Of course, being chased down by cops after you crashed your impossible tricycle is never cool either
This... thing, does everything wrong and it's another WTF moments of the car world, and those can be pretty cool. But this is not. People will think you drive a watermelon or something. You'll have to explain it and then people will find you boring.
No matter how absurd it is, it will always be uncool.
Nobody has ever had to explain why they're driving a Dymaxion, let alone explain how it's different from any other car on the road. The answer is pretty obvious from a thousand paces.
