I'm pretty sure it started because the dislike resonated in the form of you calling people douchebags.

Actually I just said D-bags never cease to amaze me and then went on to say I didn't like how people could see this vehicle and assume it was something only a right wing terrorist would drive and then see a soviet military jeep and think it was cool without making similar associations.

Admittedly, the D-bag comment was a poor choice of words but I think it struck harder than expected because a handful of people immediately identified themselves as inconsistent in their voting and took it that I was speaking directly to them by name (where I didn't actually point out any individual or use any specific names).

That said, I'm sorry to all of you who took offense for my use of the term D-bag. It was short-sighted and offensive and so I apologize. I did not mean to cause such a stir in the community and certainly did not intend it to be directed at any individual.

Truth is, at the time of writing that post I didn't even know for sure that anyone had voted cool on the russian military hardware and then voted uncool on the american hardware.

And the moral of the story is, don't be a right-wing nut job terrorist, Stalin, or right-wing nut job Stalin.

(Can we please stop this discussion? It's not going anywhere.)

I never knew this car before I played GTA V. :D
Only when I started looking for the origin of Trevor's car, I learned the Kaiser-Jeep M715.

...I just clicked on Sub Zero, I don't know why. Probably because Trevor was my favourte character.
Furthermore, I just like simple military trucks like this (and like Soviet ones).

Discussing commie military cars? ;) Err, I can't remember a close Soviet alternative. UAZ 469 is a bit later (1972), smaller and 4-door. GAZ 69 (2-door original) comes to mind, but it's much smaller, too.
No, wait, I found one... GAZ 63 (1947-1968) - a 2-ton 4x4 army truck (was used by civilian services, too, but they usually had RWD GAZ 51's). You probably could have seen it in Call of Duty: Black Ops.

The dimensions are similar (length 5,525 mm, width 2,200 mm, height is more though - 2,250 mm at cab), but the curb weight is a lot more - 3,200 kg.

There's also a modern vehicle used by the Russian Army - UAZ Scorpion (2011+)
