^ Yes cause that sounds oh so serious.

Ah.

The other part was sarcasm.
Yeah...you just had a VIN that says otherwise, as far as the rest of the world is concerned. .

I didn't detect any. *Shrugs*

I'd entertain it in real life, hell I've done it with stupid car comments why not something that has some backing to it. Also isn't Spoon a tuner division for Honda? If someone was like look at my Honda Integra, and another person said it's actually an Acura...that is what is going on here.

Yes, it's always hilarious, if a bit sad, to hear the ramblings of a ricer talking about his B16 diesel rotary.
But I would expect something different on GTP.

Yes, I believe it is. Edit: Whelp, guess not.

Exactly, there is no reason to split hairs like that,.

Spoon is an unrelated company that simply makes parts almost exclusively for (and races) Honda models.

Thanks @Tornado I don't follow them all that much or know about what they've done beyond their top tier cars in racing and production

What about Infiniti brand or in the old days Datsun and Prince ( Nissan ) and Lexus ( Toyota ), same as Eunos ( Mazda ) and Acura ( Honda ), then we have Dino ( Ferrari ), aren't these just a different brand name from the same manufacturer ?

Would we call Datsun and Prince not a Nissan ?

if Toyota suddenly started using the name "Sanmoto" for the RAV4's, it doesn't change the fact that they are still Toyotas.

A car is whatever its manufacturer calls it.

If Toyota calls the Toyota bB a Scion xB, and that's what it says on the papers, then that's what it is.

We all know what it is on the inside.

The 246 is another kettle of fish altogether. Like the Scion tC, it was built by the mother company, but not sold under the mother brand (not until later on for the Dinos). You could never call a Scion tC a Toyota tC. The Toyota tC does not exist.

Similarly, it is correct to say that Ferrari built all Dinos, but that Dinos are not Ferraris.

And not pompous at all, because, again, most Ferraris are seriously uncool, while Dinos are seriously subzero.

-

The Datsuns, that's a different story. The cars are technically Datsun, but since it's the brand itself that changed names, then calling them "Nissans" is technically correct, since you are still referring to the same brand, but not as correct as calling them Datsuns.

-

Of course, the act of explaining all of this is seriously uncool.

I actually said something similar on the FinalGear forums regarding that episode of Top Gear with the stork sitting on the "Galant" that JC accidentally called a Lancer. Unsurprisingly when I said it was actually a Legnum because it was a wagon they "didn't have any of it", as Bopop put it.

Problem is you were right, to call it such people not liking the foundation of their reality being challenged and getting upset and saying "no" very loud shouldn't be bothered with I'd say. AT this point and actually several post ago, I just think it's joke worthy and I don't care either way. Because what is suppose to be a fun group of threads fizzles down into a fight every time. Anyways I feel bad you had to deal with that BS on another forum.

Cool car. Looks great and is one of the lesser known and in-your-face cars to come out of Italy.

Sub-zero, one of the prettiest cars of all time. Of all time.

Never understood the reasoning of badging it as a Dino to differentiate it from 'proper' V12 Ferraris. Ferrari arguably had their most successful period in racing during the 1950's with F1, F2 and Sportscars, using a four cylinder engine.

Very pretty car, but not sub zero for me - if this was sub zero where would the 250 series Ferrari's go?

Sub zero should be reserved for the very greatest cars, and this isn't one of them.

Wasn't "Dino" also used as a marketing ploy in the U.S. to create a lower priced, "affordable" sports car ? Sent here to boost sales of it's parent company, Ferrari, since they were struggling in sales ?

.
No and yes.
It was marketed as a Dino worldwide.Cause Enzo wanted to make a affordable sports car that could compete with the Porsche 911. But he did want to tarnish the Ferrari name cheaper sports cars.

It kind of does it's called a Toyota Zelas. :sly:

.
But on doc. of ownership it says it's a Ferrari.

It's sexytacular, even for a Ferrari. I wish Ferraris would look like this again :(

I'll give it a cool because I'm not ludicrously excited by one.

Whoops. Voted uncool, meant to vote cool. Durrr

Eh, I'll agree that the technical name for the car is a Dino 246, but I wouldn't scrutinize anyone for calling it a Ferrari, either. After all, they were built right next to Daytonas on the assembly line, so there is still some merit to calling it a Ferrari. At least to me, that's what it at heart when you take in exterior & interior design; it's clearly Ferrari.

And when was the Zelas released? The car started out as a Scion, and that's what it originally is.

But while the tC is a Scion, of course, the Zelas is a Toyota.

Oh that's not why it was made it was supposed to be a gt.
haha. lol

This is one of the slowest Ferrari ever made:

And you'd be hard-pressed to call it seriously uncool.

All road-going Ferraris are slow compared to their racing cars. And most of them were GTs. Ferrari has only produced, to my memory, two modern road-going cars (not track specials or modified track variants) that were purpose-built solely for speed. And that is the F40 and the Enzo.

Most of them were GT's? Look at the GTO lineup! And the 599 GTO. Look up the Top Gear review of that! It was made to be fast. and the 458 is NOT a GT. Or the 360, or the F430! Most Ferraris are built for speed and that is just how it is.

Note that most of your examples are from the last 10 years. Even then, the FF, F12, 599, 612, 456, 575, and 550 are all GTs. The famous 250 series is predominantly GT cars, as were most Ferrari road cars of the '50s and '60s.

Also, the 246 did 0-60 in around 7.4 seconds, which, while slow by today's standards, was pretty quick back then. It was faster than a 911, IIRC, and you wouldn't bash the early 911s for being slow because, like the Dino, they were about more than outright speed.

"Eugh... It looks like some kind of slutty playboy's car..."

Urggh...I'd be internally enraged if I encounter that kind of situation. I won't openly express it though, that's just not me. Such lack of respect juxtaposing those polar opposites together.

Effortful, beautiful craftsmanship being equated with slutty playboy. Oh dear. Unfortunately that image of exotic cars is quite common, eh.

But I suppose I have to calm myself down and respect an opinion after all.

GT-Omologato. Hmm... I wonder what the other two letters stand for...

Ferrari's flagship cars over the decades have been their grand tourers. The 250 on which the legendary GTO was based, the Daytona, the 612, the 599 (which was awful nimble for something weighing 1.7 tons, but it was still a 1.7 ton car), the FF. The mid-engined supercars started well after the Dino left production, but cars like the Enzo and LaFerrari are built in very limited numbers.

Granted, the 360-430 are very focused sports cars. And they can trace their lineage back like so: 458->430->360->355->348->... etcetera... to a certain "slow" car.

Alright! I fell you bro, I feel you.

Both have perfect athletic bodies.

Lol.

3 problems.

1) it does nothing for me visually. I guess some might think it's pretty but personally I feel the "Dino" comes from the fact that it looks like a "Dino-saur"! That shape is just.. Ew.

2) My 1997 Toyota Camry has more HP than this does. And I know you're saying "well of course it does, it's way newer! You're stupid KLM!" But my Camry doesn't cost a fortune. And it's reliable. And has good creature comforts. And leather seats.

3) A V6 in a Ferrari, a car company who can make incredible V8's and V12's, just doesn't seem right. Great it may be, but somebody should've planned for this car to hold more cylinders.

The fact that it's a 60's Ferrari (meaning cool people drive it) saves it from any really bad rating, but I can't give it anything above a "meh"

Your 2nd & 3rd points really miss the whole point of this car & the era it was designed in. Even at 10 years younger, the first generation Camry wasn't anywhere as good.

Comapring the Dino to a 1997 Camry is like complaining about a Nokia N95 by comparing it to a Samsung Galaxy Y.

Or saying the M1 Garand is an uncool rifle because an M4A1 outperforms it in every way.

Or... hey... Katy Perry has outsold Led Zeppelin. So by every objective metric...

If I went around and told my friends I owned a Ferrari (even an old one), they'd expect for it to have more than 180 HP, is the point I was trying to make.

That's nobody's fault but your friends for having such a closed-minded view, then....

@McLaren "The mind works better when its open."

After some troubleshooting, I finally managed to get the spreadsheet to work the way it should.

This car comes in at 1.373, without the spreadsheet providing extra digits of precision this time.
