Not necessarily. There's a difference between being uncool and wanting to own one.

There are cars I think are incredibly uncool and would give anything to own one.

I said the second thing because people think this car is uncool because it's not a GT40. It's kind of an invalid reason IMO.

The first one is my real opinion.

How is it invalid? Though I'd agree it's not a copy or a remake but a modern day interpretation version of the car or next gen you could say, this doesn't even come close to bringing it into uncool territory. Not sure how, I guess every next gen version of original cars should be classified uncool as well.
If we're talking about coolness, communism has historically shown to be a far more effective boost to coolness than capitalism. I mean, go to any air museum and the only planes anyone actually cares about are the 50s MiGs, let's be honest.

...No I don't I actually find Sabers more entertaining when I go to an Air Museum, I didn't decide to be an aero engineer because of 50s migs, rather cars like this one on the cool wall and the original pushed me toward that. (Also planes like the SR and such as well :sly:)

Also SMAW welding aircraft is super uncool. The pilots willing to pilot them (or forced) are crazy enough to make it cool.

Sooo you guys who think supercars are s. uncool would never want to own one?
I'd love to own a ton of very uncool cars. It doesn't make them more cool - and their uncoolness doesn't change my opinion on wanting to own one some day. On the CW Results thread alone I can count at least 5 cars with negative ratings I'd gladly own.

I really don't understand why, to some people, supercars are seriously uncool. Is it jealosy? The knowledge you probably won't own one? Or communism?
Yes - though I think you're confusing why they're seriously uncool with why I say they are.

To your average man or woman in the street, a supercar is a gaudy, obnoxious display (usually aural, but commonly visual too) of overt wealth - and your average man or woman in the street thinks that the rich should be punished for providing jobs and ploughing money in to the economy by buying supercars by way of having their money taken off them on threat of gaol. So to the average person a supercar is incredibly uncool.

I'm a car guy. I like supercars. But car guys are nerds and nerds aren't cool either, so it doesn't matter if I think a supercar is cool, because I'm not.

Given that I prefaced the point that supercars are always seriously uncool with a statement about how the Ford GT would be the one I'd own, what?

Hmm

It just seemed weird to me

The only reason i'd want a car is because I like it and think it's cool, maybe to others it might be horrible but in my eyes it's awesome

So wanting a car I think is uncool seems like a contradiction

That guy once looked around for Lotus Esprit, so I wouldn't worry about him.

:p

Automatic Sub Zero for me!

I can't speak for them, but just because they think it's uncool doesn't necessarily mean they wouldn't want to drive one or own one.

This isn't the like wall, or the 'cars you want to own' wall, it's the cool wall. There is a difference.

For example, I think the Aston Martin DB5 is cool, but I can think of 100 cars I'd rather own. On the opposite side of things, I would love to own something like an AE86 Corolla,* but I wouldn't consider that a cool car.

As for the GT, possibly the coolest 'retro' designed car around, and, like others have said, isn't such a display of wealth like, say, an Aventador. Still, not the original. Cool.

* I think I voted 'cool' on that particular car, but I hadn't really thought about what 'cool' really means.

This is how I view a lot of cars. I think scrap heaps with no balls from the 70s are badass.

I know how that goes, I think the Corvair happens to be one of the coolest Chevrolets ever made, and by most people's standards its about as far from cool as you can get.

Exactly. I rather like Edsels, Pintos, Chevettes and others. Those have redeeming qualities.

I really don't think the average person looks down on supercars. If the key to coolness were to blend in and not draw attention, wouldn't that make Prii and Camrys cool? How can both a Ford GT and a Prius be uncool?

Well, those who think that supercars are uncool can probably give you a better answer, but if I understand their reasoning correctly, supercars aren't uncool to them because they don't blend in. They find them uncool because they're vulgar displays of wealth, and are almost never actually driven hard; they're just used to show off.

While I still find supercars and racecars cool a lot of the time, I see their point, and it makes me question what makes me find a car cool.

Of course I could be totally off and not really getting why they feel that way, but that's what I got out of what they have said.

I don't like the engine choice, but it's still pretty cool 👍

Just went to a local car show the other day. They had all kinds of cars including a couple Caterham's, Lotus's, old Porsche's and other cars deemed "cool" by gtplanet. Yet the majority of people were gathered around cars like the R8, MP4, SLS AMG and a Murciélago. Why would people want to take pictures and talk with the owners of such seriously uncool cars?

The people who fawn over Lambos etc are generally very uncool people, or kids. What's cool about showing up to a car show and being swarmed by a bunch of dudebros?

To me, every young kid dreams of a Ferrari or Lambo, but it doesn't make them uncool. It just means that I'd never own one.

As for the GT, it's something really special to me. There are very few super cars I really like. Mclarens, Astons, Saleens, and GTs are about it. Those cars aren't completely overrated like Ferraris and Lambos are.

For me it was the R34 Skyline, never been a big fan of supercars to be perfectly honest. So perhaps I'm a bit biased.

Because modern

Any cars you don't see everyday intrigue me (unless they're absolute pieces of crap), but that doesn't mean I think they're cool.

Because those people find them cool. Some people don't. I for one don't think the SLS AMG or Murciélago are cool cars. Coolness is subjective, we've said this many times before.

What people consider trash I think is interesting.

See: Pinto

If I see a Pinto around here, or even an old beater from the 80s, I'll likely be interested. It's just because they're cars you don't see roaming the streets everyday, especially where I live.

It's the same for me.

I about jumped out of my seat the last time I saw a Chevy Citation.

I find old MiGs absolutely fascinating, for the same reason everyone else does. One, you don't see them everyday... Two, they're amazing examples of low-tech over-engineering compared to the sophisticated metal America put out back in the days.

But if you asked me which I'd like to fly, given the chance, I'd rather fly a Sabre.

If I suddenly win the lottery, I'll post pics.

Personally, though, I think I'd buy a modern secondhand Jaguar XJR. You know, the one that looks exactly like the one they made back when Britain was still a part of the Holy Roman Empire. And maybe an aircooled 2.7 911 GT3.

I've said this before, but I was at a sports car club shoot... well, they called themselves a sports car club, but most of the cars there were modern Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Porsches... and while the general public were ogling the 458 Spyder and the Gallardo, these supercar and sports car owners were ogling a dinky old BMW from the 70s.

You can buy a 458 or a Gallardo if you have enough money.

Finding an original, ex-rally works BMW 2002tiit from Germany and having it restored to working condition, that takes actual enthusiasm.
