Can you think of a better glasspack? Can you think of anything else that equals the distinctively rough, choppy sound of a glasspack muffler? Also, straight pipes are probably illegal.
No, because there isn't. If I'm spending money on the exhaust, I'll put my money behind something worthwhile & not a stupid noise maker. Again, not a teenager modifying his V6 Camaro.

The cherry bomb comment, had me literally laughing. As if there was no level lower (to me) that W&N could reach and then he says that. It about confirms that he is teenage guy that has old world ideas passed down to him, or is just an older person perpetuation naive ideas. It's fine to have them but uh much backlash will result and obviously has.

Not sure which current cool wall thread is having louder shots fired this or the GT350

I'm pretty sure a fart can on my Kia would sound better than Cherry Bombs.

Glass packs sound like garbage in general. I'll stick to my Walkers, Flowmasters and Thrushes.

Speaking of cherry bombs I saw one on a dump truck once.

I know many people who run straights here so it can't be that bad.

A coffee-can sized tip on a stock muffler just sounds like double slow.

A glasspack is just something that's there so you can tell the DMV you have a muffler. It does almost nothing to actually muffle the sound of the car, let alone smooth it out. Thus, is best muffler.

"They do nothing to muffle the sound"

Lolwut

Have you even heard them side by side compared to straight pipes?

That entirely defeats the purpose of calling it a muffler.

The DMV isn't who you need to worry about its the cops who pull you over.

My dad has been down that road. Pretty much ran open headers (well dumps anyways) for years (this is before the 96 OBDII emissions stuff) until one day a cop decided to pull him over and wanted to issue a ticket for violating a town noise ordinance and when he showed up to court the Judge said if he can't hear him pulling out of the parking lot he'd waive the fines. (E did)

Don't think cherry bombs were his first priority.

Also, I feel like mentioning here, budget considerations might also form a reason to use a cheap muffler. A dual exhaust setup with glasspacks seems like it'd be one of the better cheap ways to make my horrble car faster (I suspect the factory single-pipe exhaust full of crush bends, with a typically restrictive later smog-era catalyst, is one of the reasons GM V6-60 engines can't rev).

Dual pipes will slow you. On a small engine like that a y pipe will produce more torque. This holds true for even small V8s.

Like I said if you want cheap mufflers go buy a Walker.

Does it produce the same choppy sound or is it smoother though? Also is it just as loud or quieter?
Really depends on your setup. All you'd need is a 2 1/4" y pipe with the respective cat an muffler. Those choices will change the sound a lot. Its tough to say. Any v6 isn't going to have much in the way of growl though.

If you want a choppy sound, put a cam in the engine with a wide lobe separation angle and a ton of overlap. You'll gain power too. Hell you'd wake that thing right up and change the entire response and characteristics of the engine.

If you want more info then PM me so this doesn't get dragged further off topic.

If they didn't, how would I have heard about them when I was 8?

Great looking and sounding car. Look even better in the metal too. Had a lot to live up to after the E-Type but it delivers. Sub-Zero.

Mostly, a very good looking car, but far too expensive and neither one thing or the other...

The V8 weighs >1,800kg - how can a mostly aluminium, 2 WD, 2 seater weigh as much as a Nissan GT-R? Although all models have respectable straight line performance, the weight and slushbox only transmission means you'd struggle to ever call the F Type a proper 'Sports Car', and it lacks the interior space to be a decent GT car.

So much promise, unfortunately the details are poorly executed.... which would seem to be reflected in the sales figures given how few of them you see on the roads.

Coupe looks even nicer than the roadster 👍

Makes a great noise, is rather quick, and would turn heads in a good way. Can't stand the look of the rear end though, so it gets a very solid cool.

Has to be said that the 8 speed is very good in this application and I didn't mind the paddle shifts at all - it'll revert to auto after 30s of inactivity on the paddles, but it's never allowed that because changing gear makes it crackle and bang and you'll never get bored of it.

That's almost certainly for three reasons, each twice as important as the last.

You can't fit golf bats into it. Modern Jaguar buyers are fat old duffers who can't even get into it (or out of it - it's quite low). It's £15,000 more expensive than it should be.

The same V8 engine and transmission stuffed into the XF saloon results in a car I can't find any fault with. And at the same money - with four seats and a boot big enough for your bats and the bats of everyone in the car along with their electric bat trollies.

I do like the F-Type. It gets so many looks and positive comments it has to be cool - I was driving one for an hour in the West Country and got a friendly wave from some policemen (thank Xenu they hadn't seen me 30s earlier) and had a chat with some old guys who'd seen three others tooling through their village that day and were too pleased to see them to be cross about the speeding.

But it's not quite as pretty as it ought to be and it's just stupidly expensive.

Does it have the same gearbox as the AMG Mercs... with a torque convertor lock up?

Agree 100% on the price.

As a ‘golfer’, that wouldn’t put me off completely (my clubs go in the passenger seat/footwell of my 996), but the boot really is too small for a long European road trip for 2.

XJ for me (SWB)... the most stylish and well proportioned big saloon car on the market. Black on black, 20’s... very cool car IMO.

The XJ is rather nice. I do concur with your comments about the F-Type's weight too. If it is all-aluminium, lord knows how it's so heavy - must be as heavy if not more so than the XK. The XJ weighs no more than the equivalent XF despite being a much larger car, and that's solely down to the aluminium chassis and body.

As a related aside, I still prefer the Jag XK to the F-Type (looks-wise, at least). I don't care if it makes me an old giffer to say so. It's just a more classically elegant car. Interior is a bit naff by recent Jag standards though, unfortunately.
