It's a Jaaaaag that has more room to carry stuff and things, I think that's cool.

Watch as this get's overlooked as everyone who was quoted in the above post will be responding.

But that's just it. It's the impressive performance that makes them desirable and cool.

To you? Sure. However, there have been plenty of non-performance cars on this wall that have vote cool (much to your displeasure). Also the opposite has been seen as well. Since cool isn't defined as just performance alone, as I believe I said I like these cars but they don't deserve some sort of cool, especially not because of the badge that is on the front or the power the brochure on it claims that you can point out to people/friends.

That's why I said "maybe". And yes, it could be fun, though I'd still rather have a car that can be fun in the corners and on the straights.
What kind of manual transmission enthusiast are you if you can't find enjoyment in the simple act of running up through the gears, no matter how swiftly? ;) The automatic transmission in this XFR-S was a primary factor in my Uncool vote. I'd rather take a 2CV for a spin than a big fat luxury car that shifts itself. Supercharged V8 aside, surely you can see where I'm coming from?
Fun to drive is not the same thing as cool.
It's no revelation to say coolness doesn't hinge on just one thing or another. It entails an amorphous collection of things that have different meanings to different people.

Is there anything to be said about your one-liner regarding the Jaguar? I suppose I could point out that "gets" doesn't need an apostrophe.

I didn't say accessibility was a bad thing. What I meant was, some pathetic little excuse for a car, like a 2CV or a kei car, isn't automatically cool because you can drive it at 10/10ths all the time and not get pulled over. IMO, that's grasping at straws. The only reason a car can do that is because it's pathetic and being pathetic isn't cool.

Which simply means you've never driven a really well sorted old car on a really good road... ever.

I was talking performance abilities, but (although I probably really am the only person who thinks this) I consider wagons cool anyway, simply because, in today's automotive climate, they're a rebellion of common sense against the crossovers. Plus, the one in that photo is the R63 variant, which is fast anyway.

An R-Class is a three-row minivan/MPV. An E-Class (even with the third row jump seats) is a wagon.

The R-Class is very close in height to an Odyssey... and longer. It's Merc's version of the Chrysler Pacifica. Meant to appeal solely to families who find Vito vans a bit too pedestrian and GL-Klasse SUVs a bit too gaudy.

Rebellion against crossovers? The R-Class is a crossover. Only it's for soccer moms with lots and lots and lots of money.

A lot of those slower cars don't really look good. The 2CV's snail-like looks match its snail-like performace. The AZ-1 looks like a toy car.

Your opinion, and you're entitled to it. But then, that's why we have the Cool Wall, to get a consensus of opinions.
