I would suggest a 15 to 20 kg ballast this coming season for the r8 and gtone. This should bring them even with the bentley at 60, and the 787b.

Why on earth would you do that? The GT-One isn't that brilliant to deserve ballast. It's a very competitive car, but not at all the outright best in the universe.

1. Try the Pescarolo
2. Try the MINOLTA
3. Try the GT-ONE
4. Dare to say that again

;)

Seriously, the GT-ONE is amazing in corners, don't try to make it worse than others with the excuse of its high top speed. It's better in every way (only outhandled by the Speed 8 and the R8 '01).

I wouldn't like the R8 '01 back, no matter the ballast of it. I would, however, like to see the R10 being given a chance with 40-70bhp more than the other cars, just for fun.

I wonder when the season is supposed to start, we do want more people to join us, especially after the two flops at Monza and La Sarthe.

Soon hopefully, maybe in 3 weekends? That will be my first available Saturday I think. Karting school the 12th (I have to do one since I haven't a license), then I'll just race twice a month on Sundays. As for the league, I'm excited. If Jamman and Golfer are on my team we'll be a solid group.

Drum I think jamm will be surprised with how quick you are in the 905.

Peter, to answer your question, because we want a variety of cars to be attractive and competitive. The Toyota is the fastest car in the series now, with the Audi a close second. The Bentley is a solid second slower everywhere. Everything else is even further off.

The Pescarolo understeers a lot, but is easily the most stable car.

The Minolta drives pretty well actually. I was barely slower than the GT-One. It's just a tyre eater, and very unstable.

You won the title with the Bentley, it was not slow, jake. I was actually thinking it was under handicapped.

Peter your opinion at this point is moot. I've tested all these cars at these regs at various tracks. I was over 2 seconds faster in the Gt One at monza than the Bentley. Enough said.

You're being biased BC you want to win in the gtone. Let me tell you something, if you can win in the gtone, you can win with 15 or 20 kg added.

I'm not trying to be biased. The GT One won what, one race in S4? Sure it was quick all about, but not so much to be penalized.

I'd have to test it myself, but so far, with all the racing we've done today, the GT-One wasn't dominating. Well, actually I won a bunch of races  But not in such a dominant way as you're implying.

Peter, do you have the Speed 8? If so, go to Monza, put 60kg on it, and compare those laps to the GTOne. You should be hitting 31's in the Toyota. You should be hitting 33's in the S8.

Jake your testing the cars at Monza. The GT-ONE is very well suited to Monza due to high speed. This is going to through off your testing results since you are showing that the GT-ONE is faster at a track that the GT-ONE is suited to. What do you expect?

And before we start penalising the GT-ONE, look what it acheived in S4. One race win, three podiums (two podiums were a double podium at SSR5) so it is hardly destroying the rest of the field. The Bentley was clearly the fastest car, even with the ballast. And the whole of S4 was speant with people talking about how awesome the Audi R8 '05 is. Now why is it that people are calling to ballast the GT-ONE which is a car that is not winning. instead of one car that is winning and one with a clear advantage over everything. This needs to be sorted guys.

Golfer's actually right. I am not for a minute saying the GT-One isn't fast, but, you have it out to be the new Audi R8, or Bentley, when it really isn't so. The Audi R8 '05 is still very much within reach of it, and so are all the other cars.

NO! Look at its performance first.

Bentley: Very, very good car that already have ballast added. I actually think it could use a little more, tbh, if we want to have more competition from some of the bad cars, but of course, it doesn't seem like there's going to be any bad cars in S5 with the current teams.

Audi R8 Oreca: This car is great, and even though I think it could use ballast, the GT-ONE is still above it.

@Peter

When you can match the GT-ONE laps in a Pescarolo - let me know, lol. Calling it "easily the most stabile car" make me ROFL :D :D Oh my gaawd, rofl.

Only one way to do this - Everyone turns some laps with the setup in the tuning garage in the GT-ONE, Speed 8, and R8 if they have them. Then turn some with an average car like the 908 or something. Try to get the lap times even with ballast. But before we do that we need to know what HP we're running.

Bentley with the 60kg ballast is slower then the R8, imo doesn't need more. I feel the R8 and Gtone are the best cars atm, but their advantage isn't that big, and comes down to driver consistency.

All this about horse power and weight, I though we were over this.

Ffs I might as well switch this to a 1 make model series.

Jay Leno Tank cars! :sly:

Doesn't mean too much to me tbh, a little regulation is always ok though. It's not much, as tissimo said.

@BK can't I try and convince myself to use the BMW by slowing the cars that crush it lol

Edit: Anyone who says the Bentley was fastest this season is an idiot. This opinion ironically came from the 2 mediocre GT One's..... stop being so biased

I kind of think the in-thread drama is entertaining. Interesting how we've recreated the squabbling of the teams in the F1 paddock as far as regulations go.

Just shows you how awesome our series is :D

Anyway, the regulations are fine, maybe the GT-One and Bentley need a little bump down but nothing crazy.

If the season is to be six races, we can mandate a review of the regulations after race three.

The thing with ballast is that we'll soon end up using it on every car at this rate.
Not really.

It is easy to see how much ballast is used on each car and to keep it simple by keeping it all relative to one another.

Obviously cars with changed ballast are given ballast relative to all the "normal" cars with zero ballast.

Let's not forget the GT one in season 4 didn't do so well, but one of the GT one guys (me) I only turned up to two races and got a win and a 2nd place. So averagely it was awesome in season 4.

I think the Bentley, GT-one and Audi are all as good as each other (as long as the Bentley has 60 kg), with the right drivers. Although I think the Audi does take it. Golfer mildly picked up on it. It's just different tracks suiting different cars. I remember Jake was defenatly faster than me at Indy and Nurburgring, while the GT-one we know would've creamed at Monza and Sarthe. Fuji we were similar. It all just goes with the course of the season

One thing we could do is have a medals system. We rate drivers on how fast they are. Based on that we can assign either a silver, gold or bronze medal to each driver. Higher up medal means you are faster. Each team must have a Gold level driver, a silver level driver and a bronze level driver. That means that you couldn't get a team like oooh lets say Mav, AS and that other guy that is seriously fast put only turns up after the race finishes. Whats his name again? But anyway, that would balance out the teams battle so that we get balanced teams.

And another thing we must all remember with testing is that two drivers doing laps of the same track with the same car can provide a completely different view on what car has the advantage because (I proved this in switching to the GT-ONE) different cars suit different drivers handling preferences. If a driver is fastest with an oversteer biased car and is driving the 908 then they are going to be slower than a driver who prefers understter bias in the 908. So on and so on. For that reason, we have to take average performance from all drivers into account which is why I have brought this back:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AqWvjUdvEPepdGgxUEo0OWlfUVdERmZvWV9fcjJjZFE&hl=en_US

Start testing I guess. But I think we should use a different track or multiple tracks to test since cars perform better or worse at different tracks.

In my opinion, we need to compile a list of how the cars perfrom from multiple drivers perspectives at multiple circuits. Like I have said before, if McLaren got pole position by a second at Monza, would you outright say they have the best car for the season without testing to see if Red Bull will come out on top in Turkey? After that, we can start calling for ballast penalties. No point giving the GT-ONE ballast because it is fast in a straight line but is average in corners. The car will still be pretty fast on the straights but slow in the corners, handicapping the cars.

Another possibility, since we are having only 5 cars, how about we just pick the 5 least controversial cars rather than squabbling over the GT-ONE, Speed 8 and R8 '05? Say have a Pesky, the BMW, the 905, the 908, and another? This is by far the best option so far since these cars are all pretty much balanced out right away.

So nobdy is giving my idea of driving balanced out cars instead of balancing very unbalanced cars any consideration?
