In the event of a field of 13-16 drivers we will disable mics and race with one grid. With 17+ we will split the grid (SEE Lounge Splits BELOW).

Register Here

eventGT6_003_reg.png

(tables will auto update approximately every 30 minutes)

Eligibility

This WRS-Online event hosted by 3D3 Racing is open to GTP_Registered members only. If you are not currently on the registry run the GTP_Registry qualifier and join now!

Registration Instructions

The following must be performed by every driver for every event:
  • Click the registration button above, fill-in and submit the online registration form (be sure to use the PSN that's listed in the registry)
  • Leave a quick note in this thread to let us know you've registered and any other comments.
The following must be performed only one time per driver (not per event):
  • Submit the 3D3 Racing Online Driver Database Entry Form. Your information will need to be verified before you are added to the db and before your ID will appear in the registered driver table above. You can view the official driver database here.
Registration Changes

If you want to change your time slot, add a time slot or update your color choices just click on the registration link and fill out the form again and submit with new values. Your last entry will override any previous entries.

Cancellations

If for some reason, after you register for the event, you are unable to attend please click the registration button above and complete the form again selecting "cancel" as your status. Please also post a note in this thread as the table above can take some time to update.

Delaying or Restarting Race Start

Once the race countdown timer has started, the race will only be restarted in these cases:
  • Multiple drivers report a black screen/hang, instead of the 3-2-1 countdown.
  • One or more drivers get disconnected before race-pace has begun ("GO" for grid-starts, end of formation lap for rolling starts).
  • Steward realizes there is a condition that would lead to an unfair or poor race experience.
Once the race countdown timer has started, the race will explicitly NOT be restarted for:
  • Latecomers, even if you've registered
  • Driver realizes he picked the wrong car parts (ie, tires) or driving options (ie, Auto tranny)
Lounge Splits **NEW**

A more formal formula will be used to determine lobby assignments.

First, every driver that confirms their registration will be ranked using an event specific handicap equal to the minimum (best) of the following:
  1. Handicap from the official registry (driver does nothing, falls back on official handicap)
  2. Handicap from the official time trial (driver included in official time trial results)
  3. Handicap computed using an unofficial offline ghost lap replay
    • Must conform to all time trial rules and be attached to a post in the online thread
    • Submitted after TT deadline on Monday @ 23:59 GMT
    • Submitted at least 8 hours prior to the event start time
  4. Handicap computed using the best clean lap of an online steward observed qualification race
    • Tire wear set to off, but otherwise conforming to online regulations
    • 5 lap race: 1 out lap, 3 timed hot laps, 1 cool down lap.
    • Scheduled with steward ahead of time (plan ahead and request via thread)
    • Completed at least 3 hours prior to the event start time

Second, we will sort the confirmed drivers 90 minutes prior to the race and divide them up evenly. If there are an odd numbers of drivers the extra driver will be assigned to the A room. At that point the stewards convene and assign a director and supporting steward for each lobby. Then at about 50-60 minutes prior to the race the room #s and driver assignments will be published to the thread.

Reserves: Drivers with reserve status at 90 minutes prior to event start will not be included in the lobby assignments, but will be listed with their applicable handicap in a reserve list. They will have to request on the thread to be added to a lobby and the assignment will be at the discretion of the stewards. In that case handicap will be used as a guide, but there are no guarantees last minute confirms/entries will get the room you want and in some rare cases may not get to race at all (e.g. if the room split is such that there is two full rooms or if the new driver would create an additional room that wouldn't be supportable with the number of stewards available). Reserves will be handled on a first to request basis using the online race thread. Do not use the google form to confirm/register at the last minute, but use a thread post instead. If you are on reserve list or not listed at all in the lobby assignments do not join a room until instructed to do so.

Abuse: Because confirming guarantees you a grid spot it's important that nobody abuses the status. If you are fairly confident (80%) you are going to make the race sign up as confirmed ahead of time, but it's important you update your status as you get more information and for sure no later than 90 minutes prior to the race. At that point if you are not 99% sure you should be on reserve. This is a courtesy we ask, not only for the admins/stewards, but also for the benefit of other drivers that have accurately stated their status. We're going to use a three strike rule. A confirmed driver that "no shows" will receive 2 strikes. A confirmed driver that cancels less than 90 minutes of the race, but before race start will get 1 strike. Three strikes in any 8 week period and the driver risks being suspended from the online participation for 8 weeks. We know "stuff happens" and real life comes first so this allows some forgiveness, but we can't manage multiple rooms effectively if we don't know at least a bit ahead of time who is going to be showing up and we can't have people taking advantage of the system to guarantee their spot at the cost of someone else.

These rules will only apply for weekly Wednesday events where more than 16 drivers are confirmed. In the case of 16 or less the situation is more relaxed as the stewards just open up one lobby, all confirmed drivers are guaranteed a spot, and reserves are given grid spots on a first come first serve basis.

Goals of these rules?
  • Creates lounges of similar paced drivers equitably without relying on honor based practice laps.
  • Allows drivers that have improved beyond their handicap to qualify in a "faster" lounge.
  • Allows drivers that did not have time to run the TT to submit an offline lap well after the official TT deadline.
  • Allows drivers to run in an online setup to qualify if they don't want to deal with offline replays. These could be done during any of the practice sessions as long as a steward is present to observe.
  • Allows drivers to fall back on registry handicap if they have no time to pre-qualify.

We hope/expect the vast majority of drivers are covered by their handicap or TT result and the other two options are only used in a few cases each week. Drivers who have not been official processed should take advantage of #3 or #4 or they will be "approximately" assigned based on our best guess of their handicap.

Also note that the above procedures will typically only apply to lobby assignments. Within each lobby there will still be a pre-race qualification session to determine grid order.

Delayed Grid Start
  • After the qualification is complete a steward will record the results (via pic of quali results).
  • The system will place all drivers on the grid and begin the countdown timer.
  • Drivers should remain completely stopped with brakes engaged on the grid after the countdown timer.
  • A steward will check the starting order and if correct the race will start at 00:30.000 secs on the race clock.
  • If there is an issue with the order, the start will be delayed and grid spots manually shuffled. When all drivers are in the correct place the director will pick a new start time.
  • If you suffer from a black screen at the start, alert the stewards ASAP and the start will be delayed.
  • Be cautious and courteous in the first turn. Dive bombing will be penalized and will not be tolerated.
Track Boundary Guidelines

Drivers are expected to do their best to stay within track boundaries per the OLR. Mistakes happens over the course of a long race and the random off or two will be overlooked in most instances, but if a pattern of boundary abuse is observed penalties will be handed out which include 15 seconds for a "minor" pattern of abuse, 30 seconds for a "substantial" pattern of abuse, and a DQ for "complete disregard" of track boundaries. In cases where penalties may not impact the driver (e.g. DC), the penalty may be carried over to the next event and may be applied as a 5 (minor) or 10 (major) grid spot penalty.
It's up to the admins' discretion exactly what qualifies as "minor", "substantial" or "complete disregard". Going outside the rumble by a centimeter isn't as serious as a car length wide excursions into the run off area. Factors such as dirty air and traffic also come into play. If you find yourself going wide then the next lap you're expected to slow down a bit more to make sure you stay within boundaries. If you make the same mistake multiple times and you want to avoid a penalty you can always self-penalize during the race by lifting for a very brief period upon returning to the track. Continuing to hammer the throttle after repeated boundary overruns may very well end with a post race penalty.

General Guidelines:
  • Contact with walls should be avoided. Wall riding/bouncing to gain time will be penalized and/or can result in disqualification. This includes pit entry/exit.
  • Rumble/ripple strips are part of the track
  • Runoff areas are not part of the track including green painted concrete.
  • If you overrun boundaries by accident, lift momentarily to make sure you don't gain any advantage.
  • Do not complete a pass that was made possible by going outside track boundaries.
Track Specific Guidelines:
  • All hard surfaces are track
  • Wall riding/bouncing to gain time will be penalized and/or can result in disqualification.
Standard Clean OLR Rules Apply:
  • Unless otherwise specified, all rules from the original WRS event apply.
  • You are expected to drive clean at all times as if you are racing in the WRS. All participants are required to follow the GTPlanet Online Racing Rules & Guidelines.
  • 3D3 Race Stewards (who are taking part in race, but will review the replay) reserve the right to kick out or invalidate the result of any driver from the Race Room for driving offensively. If you ignore any warnings from the stewards and are kicked out of the race room, you will not be allowed to participate in future 3D3 events.
  • Contact with walls should be avoided. Wall riding/bouncing to gain time will be penalized and/or can result in disqualification.
  • Rumble/ripple strips are part of the track
  • Runoff areas are not part of the track including green painted concrete.
  • Limit your contact with walls or objects, visible or invisible
  • No hybrids
  • No cheating of any kind
  • Nothing that goes against the spirit of the rules
  • Passing and Blocking: Aggressive blocking is not permitted, but the driver in front has the right to choose his/her line and braking point and drivers behind should respect that line. Be especially careful when you are on older tires than the competition as the speed difference may be significant. These events are "for fun" so just play nice and take a conservative rather than an aggressive approach when possible.

Sprint Points System

Points will be awarded to a driver for each race and the overall event winner determined by points.

The points earned for each race will be a function of finishing position. The first place driver gets 16 base points and based points decrease by 1 for every position back. In addition the top 3 finishers in each spring get "podium" bonus points: 4 bonus points for first, 2 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd. For example if 11 drivers start a race:

P1 : 16 + 4 = 20
P2 : 15 + 2 = 17
P3 : 14 + 1 = 15
P4 : 13
P5 : 12
P6 : 11
P7 : 10
P8 : 9
P9 : 8
P10 : 7
P11 : 6

Drivers get points if they start the race even if they DC.
The first tie breaker is a driver's best finishing position across all three sprints.
The final tie breaker is finishing order in the first race.

Drivers that DC can return for the next sprint, but will start in the back because we are using fastest first based on previous results for sprints 2 and 3. Fastest first based on qualification is used for the first sprint race. Our normal procedure for qualification will be followed. Race alone with enough time to complete 3 laps.

Grid starts will be used for all races, however we will not start at "GO". This is to avoid any black screen issues and sort any grid order issues. Drivers should stay on the brakes/grid and all will go at 30 secs on the clock. If anyone raises an issue on the start (they have black screen or are in the wrong spot) we will hold the start until it can be corrected and the director will pick a new start time. Do not jump start... it's easy to catch with replay and you will get penalized points for that sprint.

There will be a 5 minute break between each sprint race to allow stewards to enter in results. You are welcome to practice between each race during this period. Please be ready to go after the break promptly so we can fit the entire event in the allocated time spot.

If spots are available in the lounges we'll allow "tardy" drivers to join after sprint 1. Drivers are also welcome to leave after 1 or 2 sprints, but please let us know if you plan to do this as it may impact our lounge splits.
Good Luck, OLR Team:gtplanet:

Notes:

  • Practice times submitted must be from an online lap with tire wear on.
  • Lap splits are not allowed until after the official time trial has closed.
  • Lounge splits will no longer be based on practice laps.
  • If you go faster in another session just re-submit, only your last submitted lap will be displayed and used.
  • Please be sure to match the regulations used for the events so all drivers are using a common set of regulations.

I think we are to use the same car as the Time Trial. The information up there is slightly off. If I am wrong, I'm sure I will be corrected. :odd:

Yes, the settings will be finalised over the weekend, but the intent is to run the car as it is run in the Time Trial.

Is it just me, or didn't we just get over a combo that was a handful?

I'm in, and again with low expectations :gtpflag:

We did. I'd say we are due for one that's easier to keep straight.

Your low expectations last week ended up with you in front of me twice!

If we're doing sprint races, can we have standing starts? I know the formation-lap/rolling-start drill is due to split qual sessions, but standing starts would be cool in these cars

And then to add more spice to the recipe, reverse grids for races 2 and 3 :)

But it's slow. I'm sure you can handle it. :D That being said...who would drive in a competitive race with the original, stock radials from the 1970's? (comfort-soft) :P

I'll eat my words from my above post on this combo! I was just in the room with @WRP001, and the car is a LOT of fun to drive on line :)

The way that the oversteer just gets way out of control off-line, like in the Time Trial, is SO much easier to control on-line. Tim and I were doing big slides and bringing the car back, where in the TT it would be long gone. Just stay off the curbing, it still bites on-line :D

Before deciding to give this one a pass, PLEASE TRY IT! I think you'll agree that it is going to make for some great racing

I had a short go with this car offline and was already ready to put it in the closet for an online race.
Race stewards kept telling me it was much more easy to handle as well. Guess I'll have to try it online. :)

Enroll in Pilmat's BMW lap around Rome primer course... it helped me a ton. :sly:

Speedy, it's somewhat like the AutoZam in that you just have to understand what the car doesn't want you to do to it... and it calms down a bit. Not to say I'm not still struggling... it's not easy. But once you get more in tune with it the spins get farther and farther between.

The weak draft setting is pretty strong. I don't see much passing with it in any case, but you can keep up from pretty far away... makes following too easy... we may want to look at that setting after we get a chance to run a few 4-5 person practice lobbies... may have to go back to real... will kill any chance of passing on straights, but might be more "real"istic. Pass can be made when people tap walls or have to slow and catch the car... otherwise can't see many passes.

That will make reverse grid really tough. I'll back 3x 10 fastest first for the official event. Then whoever is up for it we can run an unofficial reverse grid for fun at the end. And no incident reports from that unofficial reverse grid one, you guys police yourselves... the stewards spent quite enough time in the last event reviewing incidents. Also, in practice I'm all up for running some reverse grids... if it turns out better than we thought we can revisit.

I'm definitely in for this one. Having a blast with it in the TT, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it fares up in a racing enviroment. 👍

This race will be a massacre

That's what I thought too when I saw the combo, but after trying it last night I now feel quite the opposite. For anybody who has run the Time Trial, places where you WILL spin if you hit the curbs are now obvious, and the car is so much more controllable on-line that I think it will be a great combo :)

Noe Rome Reverse would be a whole other deal :scared:

Since there are no rooms up i've made one you can join if you want to

NOTE: There is going to be a points system for this individual event. E.g. Drivers will get points for each of the three sprints based on finishing position which will roll up across all three sprints to a single overall "official" result for the event. As usual, if there are multiple rooms, each room will have it's own results. There is really no good way to merge results across rooms or time zones so there will be no merged results for this event.

More details on the point system to follow.

The combo is the same as the TT version. It's just that the on-line behaviour is a lot more fun to drive :)

Yah, I wonder if it's the added weight of the fuel (which seems to be ignored offline) or maybe the front tires grip a little less with tire wear on so when the backs slide the fronts slide with them a bit giving you more time to recover. OR online physics are just different.

Would be easy to test I guess just run online with tire wear off completely and see if it reverts exactly to the TT. Don't give away any lap times or final sector times if you do this though until the TT is over. :sly:
