Simulated Driver Change

There will be one mandated (simulated) driver change during the race which must take place in a specified time window. To simulate the change a driver will pause during a regular pit stop for 5 minutes. The time window is long enough that it will throw some interesting dynamics into the race and it will also allow the participants to take a small break during the race for a stretch, drink or a real life pit stop during this challenging event.

Specifics:
  1. To begin the simulated driver change enter the pits as normal during the driver change window (race clock between 1:00:00 to 1:30:00).
  2. Begin the pit stop as normal allowing AI to take over and then selecting tires and added fuel amount and select OK
  3. After that screen is dismissed hit "Start" which will show the options buttons ("resume", "chat", "options" and "exit").
  4. As long as you see those option buttons you will not be released from your pits. Do not click any buttons including chat or you will be released when you dismiss that screen.
  5. The AI will drive the car into your pit stall and begin your normal pit stop. At this point you should be watching the race timer and the crew member with the release flag.
  6. When the flag man RAISES the release lollipop, your 5 minute wait officially begins. So, that is AFTER the tire and fuel service is complete.
  7. Note the race clock time (or current lap time) and write it down. Manually add 5 mins and write down this time which is when you can leave the pit.
  8. Take a break, stretch, pat your dog and do whatever else makes you feel refreshed.
  9. After the target time has been reached on the race timer hit start and proceed with the remainder of your race.
Driver Change Verification and Infractions:
  • All driver changes will be reviewed and penalties applied for improper execution before the results will become official.
  • If you do not serve the total 5 minutes a double time penalty will be applied to your finish time. e.g. if you serve only 4 minutes then 2 minutes will be added to your finish time.
  • If you accidentally leave the pits early you can avoid a penalty by returning to the pits and serving all of the remaining time on the *very next* lap.
  • Any driver that doesn't attempt a proper driver change will be DQ'd and removed from the official results.
Qualifying

Drivers can attempt to qualify for either class (or both). The top qualifying drivers from each class will participate in the "A" race. Drivers who do not make the cutoff will serve as reserves for "A" and participate in a "B" race (assuming there are enough drivers to race in a second lounge). The GT500 qualifying deadline is earlier so organizers can "lock down" the GT500 class for race "A". Drivers that do not qualify for room "A" in the GT500 class can attempt to qualify for room "A" in the GT300 class. If space is available in the GT500 class after the GT500 deadline additional drivers can qualify, but cannot displace any drivers that qualified before the deadline and will not be able to qualify for room A.

Qualifying will take place during the two weeks prior to the race event (see windows below). Drivers can arrange ad hoc sessions with an approved steward at any time during the window. All qualifying sessions will require a steward to set up the lounge to proper specs and will consist of short "races" which are observed and verified by stewards and other drivers. Standard WRS track rules are in effect during these races and any infractions will be penalized a minimum of 2 seconds per incident unless it is beyond any reasonable doubt that the "infraction" had a negative impact on the lap time. Each driver can attempt qualifying for a class only once (one shot per class).

Qualification times for a class will not be published until the qualification window closes for that class. Drivers are allowed to share their own quali times via PM or other private communications and others can observe their runs with permission from the driver, but qualification lap times or any information that could be used to derive quali lap times should not be posted/discussed in the thread.

Qualifying Race Procedure
  1. A race steward will set up the lounge to the proper specs for the class.
  2. The driver will be given an out lap and a single hot lap in free run for a final warm up if desired (Drivers should come to the session already warmed up and prepared).
  3. After the completion of the practice hot lap the race timer will be started.
  4. The qualifying steward and any other observers will monitor the race live to validate the run and save a replay in case of any protest.
  5. The qualifying races will consist of 5 laps: 1 un-timed out-lap + 3 timed hot-laps + 1 un-timed in-lap.
  6. When the driver finishes the final hot lap he should slow down and park on track before finishing the in-lap.
  7. Lap times and any infractions will be noted and announced by the steward. For this event the fastest hot lap must be verified offline via replay before the time is official.
  8. When the driver and steward are in agreement on the recorded net lap times the driver can exit the track.
Qualifying Time
  1. The driver's single best hot lap will determine his starting position on the grid.
  2. Any driver in either class that demonstrates in qualification or practice sessions that he cannot keep the car in control and on the track consistently or maintain a reasonable pace will not be allowed to participate in the enduro race. The stewards and event organizers will make that call if it is deemed necessary.
Miscellaneous
  • Any disagreement over infractions will be handled via replay review.
  • If a driver disconnects before finishing his first hot lap he can return to re-run a qualifying race.
  • Any lap completed (and time noted by steward) prior to DC will be counted and the lap count reduced for the 2nd attempt.
  • A driver will not be allowed to rerun a qualification lap if he DCs after damage occurs to the car in the lap, but he can rerun subsequent laps.
Qualifying Windows
  • GT500: May 25, 2015 - June 4, 2015
  • GT300: May 25, 2015 - June 6, 2015
Approved Qualifying Stewards (with time zone)

  4. oink83 - EU (Great Britain)
  5. jtv90069 - AU
  6. MadMax86 - EU (Finland)
  7. PASM - EU (Netherlands)
  8. GTP_Patrick1 - NA/Eastern
  9. mr_lab_rat - NA/Pacific
  10. Allibubba99 - NA/Central
Scheduling a Qualifying Session

Drivers should post to the thread requesting a steward to observe their qualifying run and the day/times you would be available. To maximize the chance of making a match with a steward please provide a few times and give a bit of up front notice. Stewards may also post that they have qualifying rooms ready in case anyone is ready to qualify. During those steward prompted sessions the lounge will be set up for free run practice until someone is ready to qualify. Drivers are welcome to practice during these sessions and observe others qualification runs. All qualifying runs must take place in private lounges (not public lobbies).

Finalizing Your Class

All drivers who have attempted to qualify for the GT500 class must state their class intentions by Sat, June 6th, 2015 - 12:00 PM PST | 19:00 GMT Check Local. There are three options:
  1. Commit to GT500. GT300 qualifying not required and any existing GT300 qualifying times will be disregarded.
  2. Commit to GT300. GT300 qualifying required, GT500 qualifying disregarded.
  3. Reserve GT500. GT300 qualifying required, GT500 qualifying "reserved" pending GT500 result, but driver will not be able to qualify for GT500 room A.
Multiple Lounges and Guaranteed Spots on the Grid:
  • Two lounges will be run for the enduro only if the number of confirmed drivers on race day is at least 20.
  • If there are 17-19 confirmed drivers, a few will have to go on "stand by" and may not be able to race in the enduro. Note that all drivers will have the opportunity to participate in the support races.
  • No more than two lounges will be run for the enduro so the limit is 32 drivers. Fastest in each class will make the A room. The next fastest will make the B room and others will go on reserve. All drivers will get an opportunity to run in the support races.

Rolling Starts By Class

GT500 cars will leave the grid first and get into a staggered formation. Pole sitter on left side and alternating all the way back. Target speed is 62 mph / 100 kph. GT300 cars should form up the same way shortly behind. Both fields should close ranks after exiting the final corner on the formation lap. Maintain formation lap speed until the start/finish line when the pole sitter will accelerate to race pace. All other cars should accelerate when the car in front accelerates. There should be no overlap with the car in front of you during the start. The GT300 pole sitter should time the start to maintain a safe gap to the GT500 cars.

Mixed Class Racing Rules

Both classes must share the road and show some courtesy to the other class!

GT500 Class Ground Rules:
  • Be Patient: Your job is to get around the GT300 class responsibly. Do not dive bomb a GT300 class car under braking putting them in jeopardy if you make a mistake. Understand where you car holds the advantage and utilize those areas to execute passes safely.
  • Have good situational awareness. If GT300 class drivers you are approaching are engaged in close battles don't expect them to stop their battle and let you go by. You may have to slow and pick your passing lines carefully. You may lose a gap you've built over a competing GT500 driver, but that's the nature of multi-class racing. Everyone has a right to the road and everyone is going to get stuck behind a slower car at some point in the race.
GT300 Class Ground Rules:
  • Be predictable. Pick your line and and hold it. Don't suddenly change your line thinking it will allow faster cars to pass. You will just surprise them and mess up any plan they've already made to get around you. If you are taking a corner on the inside hold that line on exit and allow the GT500 car to pass on the outside. If you are on an outside line in a corner, maintain that line on exit.
  • Have good situation awareness. Understand which cars and how many are around you. Is there one GT500 class car attempting to pass or a pack of them. Where do the GT500 cars have a big advantage over you (straight, under braking, mid corner).
  • Do not block: GT300 drivers do not have to move aside for an approaching GT500 car, but they are not allowed to "block" or interfere with an GT500 car trying to pass.
Remember every driver has their own style and approach to the course. You should take advantage of practices and support races to get to know your competitors and their driving styles and their skill level regardless of which class they are racing. Some drivers have more car control than others, some are more comfortable maintaining close proximity to other cars and some may back off with other cars around.

This event is for fun and drivers of all skill levels are welcome. If you have a problem with that then this probably isn't the event for you. Unintentional mistakes are going to happen, but this is a very long race and you have plenty of time to recover (light damage). However, at the same time, all drivers are expected to drive at a pace in which they can consistently control their car and not jeopardize other drivers. Do not drive faster than your ability to control the car. If during practices and races you are not able to consistently control your car you may be removed from the race and/or demoted to a lower race class at the stewards discretion.
  • Safe Pit Entry: Drivers must keep all four tires within the white lines on pit road entry and must avoid contact with walls. There is no specific speed limit on entry, but the driver may need to slow significantly in order to stay within the boundaries and avoid wall contact. If the boundaries are crossed or wall contact is made the driver can avoid penalty by lifting off the throttle completely for 2 seconds after the car is released from the pits to "self-penalize" otherwise a 10 second penalty will be incurred after the race.
  • Safe Pit Exit: As always, when exiting pit road the driver is responsible for a safe entry onto the racing line and must "yield" to oncoming traffic. Any incident resulting from an unsafe exit will result in a drive through penalty (30 secs) for the driver exiting the pits.
Race End
checkered_flag_anim.gif

  • At 2.4 hours (2:24:00.000 on the race clock) the "white" flag will be waved.
  • The first time the overall race leader (from the GT500 class) passes the finish line after 2.4 hours the checkered flag is waved and the leader's race is over. I.e. the first lap completed after 2.4 hours completes the leaders race. After passing the start/finish line the leader should immediately slow to 50 mph / 80 kph and announce the checkered flag (press start and type "Checkered Flag"). No car should pass him at any time going forward. Any close finishes at the line will be reviewed with replay for the official results. Note: if in doubt, finish your lap and the results will be reviewed.
  • After the checkered flag is announced all drivers should complete their current lap and their race is finished when they next pass the finish line. They should line up behind the train of cars that have already finished moving at 50 mph / 80 kph. When the last car passes the start/finish line we will announce race end, then everyone should proceed to parc ferme located TBD. We will then record the results and then allow everyone to exit track and save the replay.
  • If you are in the pits beyond the start/finish line when the leader takes the checkered flag you can complete your lap *only* if you can exit pit road before the leader passes the pit exit. You cannot past the leader on the parade lap.

Delaying or Restarting Race Start

Once the race countdown timer has started, the race will only be restarted in these cases:
  • Multiple drivers report a black screen/hang, instead of the 3-2-1 countdown.
  • One or more drivers get disconnected before race-pace has begun ("GO" for grid-starts, end of formation lap for rolling starts).
  • Steward realizes there is a condition that would lead to an unfair or poor race experience.

Once the race countdown timer has started, the race will explicitly NOT be restarted for:
  • Latecomers, even if you've registered
  • Driver realizes he picked the wrong car parts (ie, tires) or driving options (ie, Auto tranny)

--------------

Important notes for the Support races. (note: the two formation laps and GT300 getting a head start will NOT apply to the Enduro on Sunday)

Details:
  1. The races will be set to 26 + 1 laps for GT500, 25 + 2 laps for GT300
  2. The formation lap speed limit is 62 mph / 100 kph and a staggered two wide formation will be used.
  3. There will be 2 formation laps for GT300 drivers and 1 formation lap for GT500 drivers.
  4. The target start for the GT500 class is when the GT300 field reaches T1.
  5. GT500 cars are required to pit pause for 2 minutes.
  6. GT300 cars are required to pit pause for 2 minutes.
Important Notes:
  • The lounge will be open about 1 hour before the race begins -- watch thread for announcement.
  • Be on time (at least 5 minutes early, but preferably 15).
  • Regulation checks will begin promptly at race start time.
  • No tire warming procedures allowed during formation laps.
Regulation Checks:
All drivers should be in the lounge at least 5 minutes before the race start time. We will begin reviewing these rules at that time. Once the steward begins to speak or type out the instructions please refrain from using the text or voice chat unless you have an important question.

At the race start time we will begin regulation checks. You will be called by name to enter the lounge with the GT300 drivers entering first in starting order and then GT500 cars after regs are updated. Do not enter the course until your name is called and do not exit to the lobby once you are entered.

Stay in the pits until the system places you on the starting grid and then we'll begin the formation lap procedures above.

Formation Laps:

The GT300 cars will leave the grid in order of qualifying and run a fast, but safe single file lap to lap the GT500 cars. The goal of this lap is just to get around fairly quickly and reform for formation Lap 2. At the same time the GT500 class will allow the GT300 class to clear the grid and then leave the grid and park on the run-off outside of turn 2.

The GT300 class will finish lap 1, pass the parked GT500 cars and start lap 2 of their formation lap. The GT300 class should proceed on formation lap 2 at 62 mph / 100 kph. The GT500 class will wait until the GT300 are all clear of T1 and then begin to form up in qualifying order and begin their own formation lap at 62 mph / 100 kph. The faster class should maintain about a 2 sector gap to the slower class for most of the formation lap. The pole car each class is responsible for setting a steady pace while allowing the group to keep together.

The slower class will begin the race at the start/finish line after their 2nd formation lap. The target start line is the official timing line and the lead car should make sure after the final turn that all cars have formed behind and closed the gap before the group approaches the start. At that point it's up to the lead car to accelerate to start the race and all other cars can speed up when the car in front of you does so.

The faster class cars will follow the same procedure and starting point, but the goal will be to time their start at the start finish line so that the lead car from the slower class is approaching T2 when the faster class accelerates to race pace. That should give the GT300 cars a good head start.

The final formation laps should be taken in staggered formation. The lead car will take the left side of the track. The second car should take to the right side of the track and alternate all the way back. This helps keep a tighter pack while maintaining better visibility versus single file. Cars should not "overlap" with the car in front of them. No passing before the start/finish line.

Finish:

Between the extra formation lap and pit pause difference the two classes should finish the race at approximately the same time. I'm not sure who will actually finish first, but all cars should have a fair chance to complete the race before the timer expires.

Will we be able to adjust the ballast position? Just want to make sure.

Love Super GT, signed up for the GT300 class 👍

Yes you can add and move as much as you like, but just as long as you meet the minimum at least.

I'm in a room now in the club doing a few laps. I'm going to post some times for the practice board to get things started up there.

Edit: Sent some splits for the GT-R and the RX7 to the board. My GT300 time is probably pretty crap because I've been testing mostly the GT500 cars in the lead-up for this event so I'm way more used to the lines and braking points for those cars and these GT300 cars can really fly round the bends :D

I'll leave the room open for a while in case anyone wants to join but I may be AFK.

Seeing how there's a lot more GT500 than GT300, I might switch to the GT300 class.
