What are the paddles like on the DFGT? If i recall lounge conversations correctly Hydro installed a 3rd party upgrade kit from ebay for those. Chuk went with foam for the brake mod.

They are small little buttons, workable but not ideal.

I recommend granturgismo.com paddle shifters seen here. About $30 dollars and worked great on my DFP.

I used bungee cords for the brakes and thought that worked well.

Biffy go for it. The extra work you put toward school will payoff in many ways besides the wheel. And then when you are a wheel toting alien I can brag to my kids that I finished within 1.8 seconds of you in an enduro. :sly:

If I could go back and give myself advice....

Here's some :sly: don't throw your toys out of the pram :dopey:

As for the wheel Biffy, go for it:tup:

The DFGT is a great product, I had it for a year before I made the switch to a fanatec. A word of warning though, this can become a very expensive hobby, as you can see it didn't take me long before I was looking for the next best thing (fanatec) Didn't stop there either, a few months later and I end up with a full racing cockpit

You won't regret it, the game will be a completely different experience, in a good way:tup:

I've had my DFGT for about 5yrs, with heavy usage only since GT5 came out (just a little futzing on GT5p), and it's held up much better than I expected. Only issue that has come up is that the gas pedal flickers between 0% and 10% when I'm completely off it. To me, this is WAY better than a sticky brake pedal. :)

Yeah I'm under no illusions that it will take some time, I am actually one of those people who wonders whether I'm getting better or worse :scared: But I know I'll have to give it some patience, hopefully it'll do the same to my driving. I've heard different time scales from several people, ranging from 1 week to years - as long as the experience is worth the price, I'll be happy 👍

I'm a DS3 -> wheel convert. Wouldn't have reached D2G without the wheel. It took me about 2 months to start being competitive and surpass the previous level, only by a little bit, but I have more scope now to keep improving.

You're already up there near the ceiling of DS3 skill, as was GTP_Spud - he's got good with a wheel really fast, no reason why you can't do it. Personally, I'd recommend the CSR, but it's uber expensive :D

My first (and current/and only!) ever wheel setup cost me in excess of £400 - damn good job I liked it , still desperately need rid of these plastic pedals though, I have the same issue as Lucas - I found that spraying the crap out of them with WD40 helps though, the mechanism being less-clogged lessens the off-throttle spiking.

I ask for a little help, and the whole community shows up  haha that's why I love this place, no shortage of helpful people here 👍

It's definitely my plan now to get a wheel at some point this year, 'some point' being the key phrase. I definitely have my work cut out for me (need almost full marks in one exam), but I have a goal more than worth going for. And by reading everyone's comments here, it's worth the price too. Thanks for all the advice guys, looks like I'm going to go for the G27, hopefully sooner rather than later..

You will love the G27. Once you get it you should also look into NIXIM brake mod V2. It was $30 well spent in my mind and makes the brake a ton better.

does it really makes it so much better ? what would be the biggest difference if you install this ?

I guess if it was a sure thing you wouldn't need an interview at a US consulate...

Visa approved!

Congrats Jon!

I liked it a lot. I thought the original G27 brake pedal was okay, but still very weak. The NIXIM mod shortens the throw of the brake, but also makes the resistance progressive. The further you want to push the brake, the harder you have to press, to the point where if you want 100% braking you need to use your leg muscles, not just ankle. This makes it easier to use muscle memory for each corner, because you learn the amount of pressure required, not distance of pedal travel like the original brake spring and those found on most other pedal sets. I think the same is true with CSP.

This has bothered me since I joined WRS and thought I would just go ahead and ask. I didn't start GranTurismo until GT5, so I don't have the knowledge of the previous versions that some of you do. Every week, I read in the rules this:

In Event Tuning Settings: Optional - NOTE: Any tuning gimmicks that offer an unfair advantage are not allowed. These would be things like the Subaru Toe Bug found on GT5 Prologue.

What is/was the Subaru Toe bug? Is it a gimmick that defies proper setup logic and therefore is labled a gimmick and deemed unfair? Or is it a gimmick that is not available to everyone who had the game and therefore was deemed unfair. And exactly what makes it an unfair gimmick as opposed to slamming the rear to the ground and the front to the sky ride height gimmick?

The toe bug was a bug in GT5 Prologue when you set the toe max on the Subaru, you gain twice the speed.

We still use this case as example for unfair tunning gimmicks.

Yes, we included that language from the first WRS events on GT5, to be sure that if someone found something that made a car inexplicably and demonstrably faster, we would have accounted for it in the rules.

The Subaru Toe bug is exactly what Sjaak mentioned. The car was much, much faster in a straight line when it was applied (20 MPH faster is probably not an exaggeration). The ride height thing uses a reverse philosophy to make the car do something you would expect it to be able to do with normal (albeit extreme) tuning adjustments. If it made the car 20 MPH faster in a straightline, it would fall under the rule in question.

Hey guys,

quick question: I just did a new personal best on Cape Ring and while viewing the replay I noticed that the timer showed the wrong time? Is this a sort of bug or what? In the Pratice Leaderboard it shows the correct time.

What time is the correct one?

The best time you see on the replay is from your previous best lap or ghost loaded before that. Don't worry about it, you are 't doing anything wrong and it didn't lose your lap. When you load the replay in the replay theater it should say the lap time along with the user name, car, track, etc.

Thanks mcfizzle, you are right. Just loaded the ghost and it says the correct time.
Tought for a moment that I messed it up :)

My game keeps freezing when I try to do the current combo. I manage to get two laps in and then it always gets stuck at the S/F straight. I wiped the CD clean, restarted the PS3, and the problem still exists. Tried running some other games and they work OK.

Any ideas on what's the issue and how to fix it? :nervous:

I have the same issue, it is with certain ghost replays. I am unable to use my fasted Ghost lap at the moment. Switch to a slower ghost or start without a ghost.

This ghost freeze has happened before on other tracks guys.
Disableing the ghost (at least at S/F line) should do the trick.
You only need to push 'up' on the D-Pad to enable and disable it, so it's not so much of a hassle.

I've actually gotten almost completely out of the habit of loading my old fastest ghost when starting a run.

If I do load it, it's after I'm at a point in the week when improvement is difficult to come by, and when I'm a ways into the session and have a feel for it. I'm not a fan of the clock comparing your splits to the loaded ghost as opposed to your current session fastest. Past iterations of the game still compared your times to fastest current session, even with a ghost loaded.

I can see the merits of the new system, but having the ghost as one reference and the splits as the other was better, IMO.

Hey, check this out! The team from my university won the Formula Hybrid Competition! They awarded two first place trophies (the other one went to Brigham Young). Third place went to a university from Ramon's neck of the woods.

Would it benefit me in any way to open up my wheel to see if anything might be off? Sometimes when accelerating from a stop, it sounds like one of the gears in the wheel is loose or out of position as a rattle resonates from the inside of the housing.
