All the updates will cause the app to run even slower on my rusty iPhone 3G. :D

Starting today you could preorder a 4s ;). I have to wait until Feb. Thinking about holding out for the actual i5. I really wanted a larger screen.

Na, the iPhone is merely there to read websites etc. and doesn't even have a sim. It's some sort ouf "at home mini ipad". No need for a new phone since I'm still happy with my mobile (not made by Apple)...might buy one next year. :)
 
The huge mega commented Spec 2 news story with over 500 comments, keeps crashing the app. Threads in the forums are fine.
 
Jordan, every time I use the app on my iPhone4 it marks all my current subscribed threads as read, even if they are not. I have applied the latest update to the app and it is still doing it. Any thoughts?

Yeah, the mobile site template can't handle large volumes of comments. You'll have to switch over to the full, desktop version of the site using the slider at the bottom of the News tab page if you want to see those posts until some other solution is available.

That should be normal behavior, unless I've misunderstood your problem. Loading the app while logged into your account will have the same effect as visiting the forums in your browser. After 30 minutes of inactivity (or logging yourself out), all of the threads marked "new" will then be automatically marked as "read", including those you are subscribed to, unless there are posts made in them before the next time you sign in to your account.
 
The threads will be shown as unread from the last time I logged in, but as soon as the loading icon goes away they are all marked as read. It's hard to explain I suppose but I will try to get some screen shots.
 
On the app I can have 40 posts per page, but when I try that on the desktop site it says that's only available to premium users? Is that a glitch with the app?
 
What happened to our Photo Gallery in our profile? Jordan, could you please enable a "Save Image" feature that will save the image to the device and or the gallery? Either a save button or by tap and hold. Looking for killer iPhone wallpapers :)

EDIT: I think the Search feature is not working. I'm searching for "iPhone wallpaper" in the photo mode forums. When I hit "Search" nothing happens.

I'm also curious about what changes may need to be made to make the app iOS 5 compliment?

The "posts per page" in the app are those found in the Forum Runner platform. The app accesses the forum database differently than a "traditional" web page, so these settings don't line up.

The iOS 5-compatible version the app should be approved by Apple sometime next week which will fix most of these issues.
 
I can only use the app to post but the app keeps crashing on me it repeatedly. I've logged out and back in erased the app and still doesn't work! And I've just got the app. What should I do? And can someone tell me who is owner of this website GTP and do I need permission to make threads in rumble strip or opinion or any where else?
 
When I'm in the News section and I try to add a reply I get this msg

Your image link was broken, but I've just fixed that for you.

I've seen that error a few times myself, but I'm not sure what is causing it at the moment. You may want to try signing out of your account and then logging back in.

Despite the iOS 5 update, I'm still getting the perpetual "sending" message when posting and the occasional blank screen when I click on a listed thread. Backing out and then going back in always results in being able to read it.

All posts have very odd numbers of spaces after they've finished, and depending on the number of quotes in it it gets worse. Also the button texts are now all in odd places, ie the page change buttons have actually got no text showing on them normally...loading thing's also been raised a little too. Basically it's shaken up the forum quite a lot.

Edit: The "test link" hyperlink is irrelevant however it confirms that the problem arrises when linked to a single post, this post will appear entirely blank in the iPhone app.

If you could take screenshots of the issues you are talking about and share them here, that would be helpful. You can take a screenshot by pressing the sleep and power buttons on the device at the same time.

Ever since the iOS 5 Update for the App it crashes on my iOS 3 Device. I'm not sure if this is happening to anyone else. I have deleted and re-downloaded it but it still crashes on Start up.
 
What kind of device are you using, thunderjolt?
 
Now, I've encountered another problem. There is a terrible spacing bug in the App. Between sentences there massive gaps and some menus are misaligned until I press one of them.

Got exactly the same problem since the update. On a 3G here with probably also iOS 3, i don't know.

I'm saying it's a mix of the hardware and software being out very outdated. I'm hoping to get an iPhone 4S soon so I don't have to live with the laggy iPhone 3G.
 
Getting the dreaded "connection error" quite often when looking at pix. Those pix cannot be saved to the photo library, even though they can be viewed. Even if they are my pix. :(
 
Jordan, can these problems be fixed?

First, add an "Open in Safari (or Web Browser for the other mobile OS) so we can copy a link.

In the app, tapping on the current post merely opens that post as a single post.

Second, hyperlinks embedded in images are a major problem. Especially in the GT5 Tuning Forum.

Clicking on one of the images on a desktop or laptop would take the user to the tune. For us, it displays the image.

I do realize your hands are tied and you are at the mercy of what Forum Runner allows or has set up. They probably don't realize the depth of functionality members here use at GTPlanet compared to other forums.

^^^^If you click the thread title while in a thread, it takes you to a browser view. You can then view the thread how it would view on a computer Then there is an open in Safari button.

I'm clicking in the title in the black bar and nothing is happening (wishful thinking!). You must be talking about the title in the shaded area if we swipe to the top of the page?

As matty is pointing out, you can open a thread in Safari to grab any specific links from the 'full' version of the page. Unfortunately, I believe that also goes for linked images, as it hadn't occurred to me that such links cannot be opened from within the app. I passed that issue along to the Forum Runner team so it may be resolved in the future. 👍
