I have some 1:18 Maisto cars, but I'd like to get into some serious scale model collecting. What are some good, detailed 1:18 brands, for both road and race cars?

I have some 1:18 Maisto cars, but I'd like to get into some serious scale model collecting. What are some good, detailed 1:18 brands, for both road and race cars?

The best brands for 1/18 scale between $50 and $150 USD are the following:
AUTOart (most any type of road car, race car, or truck/SUV)
http://www.aa-collection.com/cgi-bin/autoartshopping/

Kyosho (Japanese sports cars, European sports/race cars, some US cars)
http://www.kyosho.com/eng/products/diecast/index.html

Minichamps (F1 racers, LeMans racers, European sports/super cars, European trucks, European sport/luxury sedans/wagons)
http://www.minichamps.de/default.asp?language=En

GMP (US Muscle cars, Can-Am racers, Trans-Am racers, and diecast accessories)
http://www.gmpdiecast.com/images/default.cfm?CFID=453081&CFTOKEN=78802763

Highway 61 (US muscle cars and trucks)
http://www.ffertl3.com/index.cfm

Lane Exact Detail (US muscle cars and Trans Am racers)
http://www.exactdetail.com/

Ertl Authentics (US muscle cars)
http://www.ertl.com/brand/american_muscle/2007/index.shtml

Classic Carlectables (Aussie Fords and Holden road/race cars and classic Aussie muscle cars)
http://www.classiccarlectables.com.au/aboutus.html

Biante (Mostly AUTOarts and Minichamps made for the Aussie market, though they also are distributors for other brands in Australia)
http://www.biante.com.au/

Spark (non-opening resin and diecast LeMans racers)
http://www.sparkmodel.com/

Carousel 1 (Classic Indy racers and some classic 24h Daytona/LeMans racers)
http://www.carousel1.com/

And for $150+ USD there are:
CMC (classic German and Italian sports/race cars along with a Mercedes-McLaren SLR)
http://www.cmc-modelcars.de/us/index_us.htm

Exoto (classic LeMans and Can-Am cars from the US and Europe, some road cars, classic F1 racers, and the original AM General Hummer)
http://www02.exoto.com/index.asp?

BBR (modern Ferrari road cars, classic Ferrari race cars, non-opening resin Maserati MC12)
http://www.bbrmodels.it/new/en_pagine/home_en.shtml

By non-opening I mean no parts open on the model, purely a display model with no working features other than maybe steerable front wheels.
Oh, and I can also list some good 1/43 scale brands too :)

Thanks! Just curious, but about how small are the 1:43 scale cars?

I got a couple pics to give an idea of scale...

New paycheck, new diecast orders...

1/43 AUTOart Koenigsegg CCX, Black
1/43 AUTOart Porsche Carrera GT, Yellow
1/43 Spark Audi R10 TDI, Flat Black
1/43 Spark Lotus Sport Exige, Black
1/43 Ebbro Toyota Supra Twin Turbo, Silver
1/43 Maisto Mercedes CLK-GTR, FIA GT #2
1/43 HPI Mazda 787B, Flat Black

I think I'll focus on 1:43 instead of 1:18; they'll take up a lot less space in the long run. I was hoping for more detail, but 1:43 isn't too small (that H1 Hummer in your second pic is about Hot Wheel size, right?).

Yep, that H1 is the same scale as most Hot Wheels, which is 1/64 scale.
Now, a lot of the better 1/43 scale models (AUTOart, Minichamps, Spark, Ebbro, and HPI) are all very detailed, in some cases more detailed than many lower end 1/18's. Either way both 1/18 and 1/43 are fun scales, and both have plenty of variety, although 1/43 does have more rare/interesting cars than 1/18.

Has anyone else seen the 1:18th AutoART Nissan GTR? It looks great and will defiantly be with worth purchasing, I reckon.

Yep, I saw it and I want it. Will look great with some of my other low-end supercars. Hopefully they make all the other colors. I want it in either black or white. :sly:

lol @ comment "new paycheck, new models". Usually the same case for me.

Bought a few more models in the last 2 weeks.

AUTOart Nissan Skyline R34 Z-Tune
Minichamps McLaren MP4/22 Lewis Hamilton
Kyosho Lancia Delta Integrale Rallye #4 Didier Auriol

I'm currently in NYC, and I was wondering, are there any good Model car places around, which sell good quality or AutoART models? There has to be... but at the moment I cannot make many searches with this dodgy internet connection.
