First, the model looks stunning, second I have to ask...how many models you got?
Last time at university I was talking about my model cars with a group of girls (I wasn't expecting such a BIG interest from the opposite sex in this kind of collection...and it's not even the one and only girl I know) and one of them asked how many models I got, he was amazed about my numbers but I told her I knew much much bigger collections and I was thinking about yours!
Here's mine:

I have roughly 191 1/18 models, and another 84+ 1/43's. Still need to finish adding all my 1/43's to the database program I have, which I found on Diecast Xchange forums. I also have a handful of 1/64 and 1/87 scale models, along with other types of non-automotive models.
This year alone I got 32 1/18's and I think 13 1/43's so far.

@Venom800tt My GT Spirit F80 M3 came without the typical paper wrap and bag around the model itself inside the styrofoam clamshell. Did yours come in a protective bag?

The other day I had questioned myself as to if a casual collector will really notice the difference from a $70 model to a $150+ to justify spending double per model.

I call myself casual because other than the Ignitions and one Kyosho I got, I have not seen many scale models in the flesh other than cheaper stuff like Bburago, Maisto and some low-end American brand. And on top of this, I come from a 1/64 background so when I see models being built down to the tubes and attachments in an engine (regardless if these parts have been painted or detailed), in my eyes it's already incredible stuff (in other words I haven't cultivated a taste for the high-end products yet).


What I could be asking here is what are some common characteristics or outstanding features that a higher end model will have that lower ends won't?

Or if it makes more sense for some, what are some common characteristics or outstanding features that lower end models will have? I've mentioned this before but one of my biggest gripes with model cars is how much attention to put into crafting the wheels (brakes and caliper included). I've seen Bburagos and Maisto make decent wheels on certain models, but often times, they don't look very good.

What can you guys say about other particular brands you have? Minichamps? Otto? GT Spirit? Questionable fender shapes, rear wing, accuracy in proportions?

Overall, a high end model has, of course better and much detail and looks more realistic
Personally, EVERY single model has pros and cons, sometime a cheaper model can be even better than a high-end one in some aspects...
I'll do some comparisons with models I have:
True Scale Miniatures MP4/6 vs RBA MP4/5B

+resin, so it looks better
+more defined shapes
+more details, rear mirrors looks more realistic
Got it for 60€, now it's around 75€

+tampo printed sponsors
+painted rims (speedline logo) and painted seatbelts
+more detailed interior
+working wheels
Got for 10€, pretty rare to find now but I'm sure you won't pay more than 15€.

The TSM has some drawbacks that really makes me upset, the interior is minimalistic, (RBA has coloured seatbelts and the steering wheel is decorated), decals istead of tampo printed graphics, paint defects and horrible rims.
Suspensions are more defined but they still looks horrible, a piece of plastic...
To be honest, in this case, I would go for the cheap alternative...

This may look like an extreme comparison...but there are some disturbing differences...

Now, the exoto wins by ALL aspect of course, but the Bburago...........
My glorious exoto has the well-know paint rash.

****** BUBBLES ON A 400€ model car...that's ridiculous, plus there are some missing micro paint chips I'm pretty sure it was not last owner's fault... (pretty weird places to collide with an object and trade the paint)
The Bburago survived an entire childhood having some minor scratches on the metal chassis and missing chips on the nose, NO PAINT RASH, the paint still looks stunning and even the stickers are in very good conditions (now let's compare it to some decals on old Minichamps out there ).
Yesterday I had the great idea (I'm being sarcastic, I was raging very badly) to smash the car on the floor multiple times...plastic parts were all over the place but the metal chassis...oh god...oh god...it's still INTACT!
The entire model is almost like before, just a not so visible paint scratch on top and well, the nose is broken now, but I was expecting a MUCH more substantial damage.
Not try to smash your precious exoto on the floor and tell me if the car has survived
I'm sure you all gonna say "it's a model car, you should not even think about smashing it on the ground" and you're totally right!
But to be honest...that's the "endurance" I expect from a ultra-high-end model...or at least...no stupid paint rash or missing chips...

I think I'm in the phase where I'm unsure if going full steam ahead on high-end models will be a good decision on the money spent if I can be just as content with good-looking lower-ends.

Since the last post, I think I've sorted this out a bit more. Been putting items on the watch list as much as I have been taking them off. I found it very easy to be drawn to an item the moment I see a low price, but later I need to tell myself to back off of it, save the funds for the items I really want....

Like that AutoART 1999 Subaru Impreza WRC I secured earlier today for $150.

I've just been looking back at my posts from nine years ago in this thread, and I'm gutted I didn't hold on to my models! I still have an AutoArt MR2 (Purchased £5, now worth around £50) and an Exoto 935 (bought for £120, now worth upwards of £250). I remember also picking up an AutoArt '99 Impreza and Evo 8 for £15 each, which now sell for £150 EACH HOLD ON TO YOUR MODELS! Even the minicamps Sierra Cosworths that I bought a few of because they were so cheap are upwards of £50 each now.

Alot of small Photo etched details on this model, premium 1:43 models never ceases to amaze me. the Photo etched chrome windsheild wipers are so intricate and extremely delicate.

The body lines and kinks of the KPGC110 are a timeless class, and this model does not disappoint with it's separate chrome window trim, door handels, PE decals and high quality chrome bumpers.

Also whatever you consider "good". Have you seen 1:18 Maistos? Do they look good to you? If so, you are in luck!

I have fresh knowledge of this since I've been actively searching for the past 2 weeks.

And they're a perfect fit for the car itself, nice job. It seems that you've began using the Miniaturecarmuseum "license plate generator" for those.
No, that name is a not a typo; I found in a YouTube video a month or two ago that a Japanese website known under that name has a dedicated generator for all kinds of license plates for your scale model cars, from real-life plates to model name ones (a la Gran Turismo, for example). In essence, if you can understand some Japanese and have the special type of paper required to print the plates (some sort of sticker paper), you can use that yourself. Here's the actual page;

That was my rule too when I decided to get any 1:18s last year. Here am I now looking at the pretty things.

So, i went to sams earlier and found a 2013 mecerdes SL500, Naturaly maisto had an excelent casting, and the pearl white paint was decent aswell...but the interior unlike my premier edition SL65 AMG from maisto, was entirely black..

Speaking of which this is the detail that comes inside of the premier edition SL65 AMG. maisto did a wonderful job. then again it's their premier edition. also an exclusive high gloss frozen gunmetal paint, looks excellent.

I only added the Beige Flocking, which came out extremely well.

As for the "special edition" SL500... it came all black, but i changed that, and more.

First was the center console, this and the door are the only before and after pictures that i wanted to take. because that was pretty much the interior in a nutshell, black with very few details.

The red you see si what i painted, i used Tamiya matte red interior trim paint. came on gloss, but when sat looks similar to the paint in Autoarts etc.

And after, excluding the little touch ups.

and too finish off, the rest of the interior detailed and trimmed, minus the Flocking.

This is the model in question.

As far as the exterior goes, it's excellent, all "metal"(plastic) vents are separate pieces and well painted, headlights and tailights are very detailed with no pegs, the chrome on the grill is high quality and a separate piece, the door handels are separate pieces, the stance is correct, the wheels have a nice metallic finish to them, the brakes are also detailed and the pearl white paint flawless has no defects(i got lucky)


Anyway, i'll have some pictures when it's all back together.

The Frozen Gun metal on the SL65 AMG is really excellent, it has a smoothe finish with these tiny metal flakes that look awesome under different light conditions.

Very professional work, I was thinking to do the same on a old hot wheels Ferrari 250 GTO, some sort of "track package" modification, with a brand new color (dark blue instead of red) and white racing stripes. Will remove the front grill and add some details on the interior.

To be honest I would like to practice on a older model first...this sure needs a repaint but overall is in good conditions, I don't want to ruin it...
