What do you think of fonti? Looking at getting the DB9
Simple question but oh so difficult to answer.
What I think or resins
Under the proviso that I have no idea how easy / difficult it is to create resins to me they seem very expensive for what you get in parts compared to a die cast.
What I think of FA.
Very simple build compared to diecast. E.g. 11 screws hold together the MP4-12C. The wheels are nothing more than 1 metal rod with wheels attached on the ends held to the body with simple brackets and screws.
They don’t turn from side to side (for photo purposes that would be nice).
They don’t weigh much unless they’ve added extra ballast to the model.
Good – panel lines are crisp
Paint job is outstanding and for that alone it's worth investing in resins
Visible detailing is good
Bad – extortionate pricing on Resins (not just FA) even worse on Opening resins
No aftersales available from FA – no spare parts although someone on DX managed to secure a set of spare decals.
I have 3 FA models – the One 77, the McLaren and the purple Porsche – but all were from a private collector at reasonable prices.
Would I buy again – most likely, but not often and most likely 2nd hand, still have hiccups when I look at the prices they command but then the AA Huayra is very expensive too.
Would I buy FA new – hmmm it would have to be a really special model or touch a heartstring to pay in excess of Eur 299 for a closed model or the way more expensive open models. I really wanted the One 77 in white but the closed version goes for 299 euro so I pre-ordered the white AA instead @ Eur 170.
Open is nice but only for photos and once done it goes in to display cabinet never to be opened again.
Do I regret buying resins - no. I think the biggest mistake you could make is to try to compare die cast to resin.
