Based on the famous TV show, Top Gear, we will send drivers on GTPlanet around our own “Top Gear Test Track” to find who can post the fastest time. If you think you can top the time sheets, beat your friends, or beat the stig, send @FutureF1, @rcb929 or @Mike458 a PM and we can schedule your supervised lap session.

Track: These sessions will take place at the Willow Springs - Streets of Willow circuit.

Car: The Reasonably Priced Car will be.....

The TOYOTA VITZ F '12

At only 13,000cr, it is quite good value for the money. 97 of the purest horsepowers and 93 of the finest torques. This car might be too powerful for some of you to handle but lets see if you can tame this beast of a car!

Tuning will be prohibited however you are allowed to change to oil to gain a small boost in power. It is not a test of who is the best at setting up the car, it's about who can drive the fastest around the track.

Session: Each driver will have 15 mins to practice and then they'll have one lap to post their fastest time in the Reasonably Priced Car. After that, your lap time will be posted on a leaderboard on this thread.

After, if it is OK with the driver, we will conduct a quick interview like they do in "Top Gear."

Will the tuning be prohibited? Would make for a more controlled environment if it is, leaving it up to the driver alone to go faster.

Sounds like good fun. I would recommend the use of the Courtesy Cars with the Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4 T Sport '09 or the Scion FR-S.

That or a small compact that is cheap and a lot of people can get their hands on.

Exactly. The Scion and Alfa are ~30k. We're looking at cars that are half as much. We're pretty sure what car we're going to use so I'll announce it later today.

Maybe something like the premium Mazda 2/Demio or Fiat 500 1.2?

The Vitz' 12. I have one of those little ones and when fully modded, they could be really fast. (Fully tuned can hit 300 HP) It's also the perfect sleeper.

It's going to be a tuning prohibited thing. We don't want the times to be decided by the car.

This sounds fun and i'm in if i can. Is there any date of start of this event? Looks like no times were driven yet.

And if i understood well, car must be completely stock with just oil change allowed, 15 mins practice and then 1 lap from stand still on the line. Btw, if driver goes out of track, or his time in the hot lap will be red, does it count?

have one suggestion, maybe silly one, if it was possible, would be great to add also the replays of hot lap so all can look at it. Can be as a downloadable file (just an idea)

BREAKING NEWS!!

It appears that last night, a wild stig broke into the test track and took one of the Vitz's for a spin! Unfortunately, before it left, it broke all the cameras. The only thing it left behind was its timing sheets. Its fastest time was a 1:36.585. Seeing as it was a stig that broke into our facilities, we can only assume this is an extremely fast lap time.

Whoa, what a time, the real Stig. :D wonder what setup he had, am not anywhere close to that time, no matter what i am doing, my stock Vitz doesnt want to go faster :banghead:

I have a free weekend and Monday off work (local holiday), so I might have a crack at it within that time.

So we had our first driver take on the Top Gear Test Track! @Mires! He looked quick in his practice runs and then posted a 1:41.851 on his flying lap. Afterwards, we caught up with him with a few questions:

Interview:

How long have you been on GTPlanet?

I joined GTP almost 5 years ago, but wasn't active till last two weeks as i attended one Photomode contest and managed to register with WRS. I hope I will remain active as possible.

Have you taken part in any races recently, if so, which ones?

I was a member of one community here on GTP which had it's own racing league, back in time when GT5 was released. So there were few races i did online, although it wasn't directly on GTP.

What cars have you owned in real life? If none, what car do you wish to own?

I owned few cars in my life, first one was an old Czech vehicle named Skoda 120, it had 4 gears and a max speed of 120 km/h. Well, i bought it because of it's prize and as a new holder of driver license. Then I had one Nissan Sunny '92, dunno if it was named so everywhere as these Japan cars have different names across the world. Was a bit stronger and faster, but also more perishable.

So now I am proud owner of a Suzuki Swift '08, which is here nicknamed as a "Small Japanese Pocket Rocket". :) It has amazing grip, on it's size it has a huge interior and a relatively sporty feeling (although it's not the Sport version from game).

But my really big dream is a Nissan GT-R.

How did you enjoy your session in the Reasonably Priced car?

I quite enjoyed it, it was fun for me, a bit nervous as it was my first appearance in online lobby since 2012. And you saw that I did some minor mistakes on my hot lap, so I'm little angry on myself as I feel I could achieve much faster time (in my own personal tests on this I managed to hit the 1:40 mark). Well, nervousness makes it harder to concentrate under the observation. :D

Thank you @Mires for your time!

If you want to have a go in the reasonably priced car today, please put your name on this list and let me know what time is good for you;
