How about an instant messager area type of deal. I think there's something like that on myspace I saw once, myspace instant messager. Why not one for GTP?

Thats what i was thinking too. I just didn't feel it was strong enough of an idea to post.

Nice idea, but I’d expect the price of Premium to go up if something like that was implemented. It’d be a reasonably expensive feature to set-up.
True. Jordan could always have a seperate subscription (I'm thinking $10 a year or so), so if premium members wanted it, they could have it and Jordan could cover the costs... and members who don't want premium could join in on the fun as well. But there's the problem: no one wants to pay $10 a year for something Blogger offers for free. It would fall into the same trap as the GTP Gallery.

Jordan could also simply raise the price of premium, like you said. We've paid $40 a year for premium before, so it's not like it'd be a big problem for current premium members... but then potential subscribers would be turned off by the raised fee because of something they may not use.

I say if you love GTP as much as most members do, the price shouldn't matter (within reason)

This should be open for everyone: They should let it automatically set the colors and text you want each time you post. You know, like AIM does, because I'm always seeing black text, let things look more vibrant and noticeable.

Not to mention harder to read.

Isn't the purpose of a forum to communicate?

How about a section of flash mini games? Like our own little arcade.

Vibrant and noticable doesn't mean a good thing. Look at Japanese adverts or shows, they all have a bunch of whoosh noises and such, with lots of colorful fonts and stuff. Sure, it does grab your attention, but it doesn't look very nice or clean.

What would influence me greatly to go premium, however, is an assurance that those annoying popups when I first connect, before I even get a chance to log in would go away.

If you check the 'Remember me' box while logging in, you won't get the popups, because you're already going to be logged in the next time you visit.

Yes, we should do this because AIM is the epitome of intelligence.

Had another idea... what about premium members being able to edit the first post of their threads with the option of not having a "Last Edited By..." tag? It'd be really nice for those who make threads that are constantly updated (like for example, my X360 Exclusive Games thread or the Drift Settings Depot), but don't want the added "clutter" of the tag at the end of the first post.

Also I remember the idea of an @gtplanet.net e-mail address, I wouldn't mind having something like that.

Personally, I'd never use it; I've got an email address, and a PM box. Why would I need a combination of the two?

That said, having an address like "youcanusuallyfindme@gtplanet.net" would be quite cool.

I remember someone asking about a shoutbox, and Jordan said no to it... not sure how recently that was though. Again, why not use an already existing external messaging system? You can put your contact details in your profile so that they appear under the Current Status thingy. If you don't want to put your details there, then there's PMs, or any number of subforums to post in.

Seriously, we've already had a shoutbox, a conversation forum (although I guess the premium members have that now), and a lot of the other things that have been mentioned.

Here's an idea, and I know it's crazy, but bear with me here. You could use an existing instant messanging program, which most members here use anyway, to talk to people from GTP!

The ability to center my sig, put more text and/or images in it and change change font sizes would have no influence at all on my decision to go premium, nor would bigger/flashier/whatever avatars. I'm perfectly happy with my current sig and avatar ;)

Actually I had decided to go premium (lifetime membership even) back in July last year but I sat on my duff too long and by the time I was getting around to doing it Jordan was no longer accepting payment by check; I neither have nor wish to have a PayPal account which is the only way to pay for premium now.
Here's the great thing about Visa cards. I don't have a Paypal account, I use my visa card through paypal to pay Jordan. Paypal is simply the software that makes it happen.

Just for kicks, take a tour through the subscription software and see how it works.

If you really want it, and don't feel that is the way you want, you can always meet me on the Rhode Island, Massachusetts border and pay in cash.

Yeah we could use an existing IM program but I don't want to go adding every single person to my MSN. Having a seperate IM program just for GTP, where every member can be on and talk would be a good idea IMO.

We've had all of that before, and Jordan took it away.

He already said in this very topic that he's probably not going to add something that has already been taken away for a reason.

Now put 2 and 2 together...

I didn't know y'all had something like this already, my bad. No need to be a smart ass

No need to be a smart ass
[Another Rant Mode]Agreed. I don't get why people tend to act like that here at times, like when I posted something about that counterintuitive word, people started posting the definition, and saying that is not a hard word, like I'm so dumb. Pfft, I'm 17! I think I would know what counterintuitive means. No need for smart ass replies... I bet if I said 2+2=5 again, people would end up going scientific and mathematical explaining how 2+2=4. :irked: Can't post a joke without a smart ass reply.[/Another Rant Mode]

Check out Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River."

The shoutbox sucked anyway.

I didn't see him as being a smart ass.

You're absolutely right. You can't be stupid at 17. Impossible.

Could you possibly knock off that ugly orange crap you've got going on in your posts? It makes them all rather annoying.

Okay, changed my color theme, even though orange is my favorite color. I hope Dark Red is easier to see... Sorry for the inconvienience...👍

I would consider all the things I have put in bold to be "smart ass" remarks.

Sarcasm is a great tool for emphasising a weak point. Every GTPer should have it in his/her posting arsenal.

Guys, can it.

I think the center-align is a good idea, but how about some custom skins?

Thanks dan! I think the periodic competition idea is a gooden! And a larger file size for avies would be nice, even just an extra 5kb would be good, and not too taxing on the system, as the number of premium members isn't all that high in comparison to the total population.

And I’d really appreciate all the 12 year olds with their hilarious GIFs slowing down page loads. That’d be awesome and would really add to the experience of coming to GTP.

Oh, and we need a BB version of the <blink> tag.

If .gif's are slowing down you page loads, then what are you running, a windows 95 with dial-up

"Oh noes, i just waisted .3 seconds of my life because some kids avatar"

I don't think it should be much of a big deal
