One gentleman asked me for a few pics of the rig without the threaded bar "legs" on the front part of the rig, so:

So this is very much possible to do, but it creates some restrictions, for the pedal section especially. Also you'll need to be extra careful when drilling the holes & putting the rig together as you could end up having a little sway if not done correctly. (basically meaning that the low cross bar shouldn't be mounted too low..)

Just got a call and the plywoods and metal parts are ready. I will get them on monday or on tuesday the latest. :D So now I need to get the aluminums asap.

All shipped parts will easily fit into 600mm x 600mm x 60mm package. Tested it in 3D.

Any chance of some sort of padded material being added to prevent scrateds during shipping?

Of course I will make sure no scrathing will be possible. How exactly I'm going to do this is still uncertain. Now that I'll get the parts soon I can start looking for the best way. One way could be the one you mentioned or then I could use those middle layers (seen in the pic too) and tie the pieces on them thus preventing any sliding.

What about that blue plastic tint stuff you find on metal parts when they are shipped to prevent scratching. Very cheap and workable solution.

How about putting small metal parts in paper and stapling it together? With the larger parts you can put a plastic big over as we all know, we have those stuck in our closets and have no better use for them. You could also stuff a little box of cardboard between the end caps and the 3rd level just as an extra measure.

Thanks for the suggestions 👍 This will not be a major issue anyway, should be easy enough to figure out. The parts will be packed up in a way that it will be impossible for them to be scrathed.

The better news are that I got a nice little package here and the quality of the parts is great. Would be impossible to get anywhere near by doing the cuts in a more manual way. In the end the plywoods were cut with watercutter.

I will post more pics soon ( :p) when I get the rig together..

A few snapshot preview pics.. Maybe taken unnecessarily close up, but at least you'll get an idea of the finish.

One thing though need to be noted. The backside of the 6,5mm plywood is yellow (as seen in the #1 pic). It is just the way it is and this grade can't be get in full brown in this thickness (would need a special order -> €€€). If you're going to paint the ply's it's obviously no matter. (or you can just paint the other side too) The left and right parts are mirror imaged for the color though so you can theoretically put the yellow inside or outside.

Little update on progress. Got all the aluminum tubes cut to lenght and have now all the needed parts here. Will tomorrow drill the holes and I will be good to do some assembly.

- took me little more than an hour to cut the alus, and my living room looks now like a workshop :p Pretty easy job was it too.. just need to be careful to saw it in 90deg angle.
- 40x40 cost me here 4,70€/m and 20x20 was 1,90€/m

Can't promise you pics just yet for tomorrow.. will need to get a better camera here first. That crappy one won't do :)

Impressed with the quality of the finish.

Good work Timppaq and its great to see you continue through with this not giving up.

Thanks guys

All the parts are done but it's getting late here and I'll do the assembly tomorrow. But it is looking GOOOOOD :p

Cutting all the aluminums to lenght & drilling them and putting the end caps on has taken me all together just over 5 hours (all done by me). So there is work but it's not unbearable if you have help or just devide it for two days. (some might do it on one sitting though!)

Pretty nice looking parts. I've never seen that kind of plywood in the states. I was just wondering why you decided not to have the tubing laser cut while the other parts were being made?

That is a good question, I really don't know. Maybe I have assumed that the additional cost added by that might be too much, and most would avoid that and instead do the rather easy part themselves? But now that you brought it up I will ask how much that would be.

Of course that would mean shipping more parts and that will get the total cost even higher... but for some I bet getting the complete package (without a seat still though) would very well be worth the extra price. 👍 Thanks for bringing that up  Any comments guys?

Otherwise, the rig is done, and I love it!! Pictures will come once all things are finished and trimmed to perfection.

edit,

The plywood is the hardest grade we can find here (I think). It's used a lot in boats etc. as the surface is water proof, and the other side has a very grippy tread pattern.

Dude. That's a HELL of an endeavor! 👍👍

I don't see the cupholder, though. In pretty much every thread of people showing off their homebuilts, cupholders get mentioned.

Ship your units with a cupholder and you'll probably increase your GTP sales 200%! :sly:

Thanks guys

Working on a cupholder :p Should be possible...

Examples if also the aluminum tubings would be included (due to restrictions needs to be shipped in 2 boxes):

shipping the whole package to US

- plywoods, metals & plastic end caps = 45€
- aluminum tubings = 35€

Total shipping 80€

to AUS

- plywoods, metals & plastic end caps = 72€
- aluminum tubings = 52€

Total shipping 124€ :scared:

to DE

- plywoods, metals & plastic end caps = 33€
- aluminum tubings = 29€

Total shipping 62€

The actual cost of the aluminums is still uncertain.. I will look into it 👍

Man, looking forward to seeing your completed rig, It's going to be great...
I think there are many guys around, getting ready to rock new or freshly modified setups.
My latest modifications and updates is not quite ready :ouch:
- intentions to make it by November are still strong.
I work great under pressure ;)

@ Skymeat
Finns and plywood are a great mix. Around these parts, if you want the best quality plywood, Finnish is the choice product...

Have a google on it ->

About the plywood..

These latest plywoods are made out of this:

With textured backside:

To have the both sides smooth would be optimal but would require special order, I think.

edit,

Just calculated the avarage vote: 324€ (76 voters). Thanks for the voters, it does give a nice reference to what people think. (the design has changed all the time so this should not be taken too seriously)

We have loads of trees, and lumber is one of our major exports...But it seems like the high quality stuff is special here. I've seen marine ply, but it's too expensive for normal use. The resin infused stuff looks like the ticket though!

This is that I meant by a tube cutter, it's got to be easier than doing it by hand:

Thanks for the vid 👍

The firm that does the sheet parts for me doesn't have that tubing handling machine I'm afraid. So basically they can't do it efficiently with their machinery. I'll ask around more though..

Got the clearance to post this teaser pic.. :p

But that is all you're getting before I get the proper pics up ;)

What about Finland then...How much will that cost?

Sorry I'm in a real hurry.. I will look for that later on 👍 Or check posti.fi --> paketit --> 60cm x 60cm x 5cm & 7kg (economy)

edit,

looks like the mailing cost inside Finland is 12,95€ 👍

Been a while...

Got pics of the rig.. they're not perfect but hopefully these give good indication of how it is. I'll try to get better ones next time.

Also, I've thought about this a little more and I've decided to sell these ten first rig kits cheaper than I first decided. It's important for me to get these first ones out so people can tell their experiences.. I give real monetary value to that. So hopefully this is a win win situation. The new price for the set you can see in the pics is

199€

Including:

- Plywoods
- Laser cut metals
- Plastic end caps
- Full manual & instructions

So shipping is not included.

So this is a special offer for these special first ten rigs :) Hopefully these ten won't last long (a few already sold) so be quick. I'll post here when all are sold - hopefully that day will come.. :p

edit,

If I may post my own comments...
I like the rig really really really much. I could sit in it the whole day and I've so far found at least four great driving positions and I really can't decide what to use :D

110% rigid too.. I try to make some vids soon.

Nice.

Have you hard mounted the whole rig to the floor? Also I was wondering about the shear strength of those rods. Surely under continual use they would fail? Judging by looking at them alone they dont seem to have much strength in the z plane.

 No I have not mounted the whole thing to the ground  It may look like it because there's currently just round ended nuts against the floor with washers.. I have a plastic floor so it won't get damaged of that.

I will change these on it soon though:

product_thumb.php

And there is no anykind of chance of those rods failing I can assure you 👍
