Well, it's getting more efficient everyday with its design which I love. It was definitely a better solution to mount the G25 shifter attachment to the main frame--much less complicated, more room for height adjustment and less material.

I know this will all be attended to when you actually build and test but watch out for the main bottom crossmember when you have a very tall and upright seating position (which most guys will prefer). It will be difficult to get the pedals close enough without them running into the crossmember. Especially for someone with short legs. Trust me on this one.

Otherwise, you are making fabulous progress. It really looks trick and high-tech now.

First of all, thanks for the kind words ! And thanks also for pointing out possible risk areas in the design.. it can only be for good in the end. 👍

The crossmember might be close to the pedals as it stands now, but I do believe I have a reasonably amount of adjustment available for most adults. That is true that I have not designed this for a small child, as I don't think that would be necessary. This seems imo kind of hardcore for a small child :D

But anyway, the question if there is enough lognitudinal adjustment is good and for a reference, there is now (in the pics) about 700mm from the front edge of the seat to the pedals (the actual pedal plates). The pedals slide about 140mm backwards before they will be very close to the crossmember. After this adjusment is done, you have the possibility to slide the actual pedals on the plywood that's under them. There are only one set of predrilled holes, but it's easy enough to drill new ones, if needed. Also you need to remember that when using a more upright driving position, you usually use less angle on the seat and also less angle on the pedals. The lower seat angle shortens the distance to the pedals and the lower angle on the pedals allow you to slide the pedals more on the plywood plate. Additionally, you have quite much room to bring the seat closer to the wheel if needed (just turn the metal support other way around) I haven't measured how close to the end of the seat the pedals can come, but I'd estimate something between 400mm-500mm. That seems like a really small person to me. :D

Plywoods are ordered, will get them in few weeks (the manufacturer is quite busy atm). They will be CNC machined and painted semigloss black. Should have the aluminium bars and the metal parts by that time too. So looks like by the end of the month will have the rig ready for a test run.

edit,

got a little piece of the tubing I'm going to do the frame from.. it really weights nothing :)

..sorry I got a little creative with the cam :D

This is beginning to really take shape Timo, I can't wait to see what will undoubtedly be a magnificent final product...that will probably make you annoyingly faster

All the best
Maz

Thanks Maz  Hopefully I do gain a few milliseconds at least..

two pics without the "accessories" :)

edit,

added a name for the project, "GTrr" ..every project must have a name, right? :D

edit2,

ordered free samples from the plastic end caps..

40x40 & 20x20 (black)

edit3,

Found yesterday a nice glass shelf (presumably for bathroom etc) that I plan to put in the rig as a keyboard holder.. fits nicely! (40cm x 15cm)

Timppaq, I'd like a few samples of the end caps too. Can you tell me where you got them from?

Inverted pedal support:

Got the end cap:

edit,

Finally got the metal plates ordered so now left to do:
-order enough end caps
-wait for the plywoods to arrive
-wait for the metal parts to arrive
-go get the aluminium bars & cut them to lenght + drill the adjustment holes.
-assembly

End caps ordered. I will get the aluminium bars tonight and cut them in lenght and after that it's mainly a waiting game for the parts to arrive. Quite excited to have it assembled "soon"... :D

I know the feeling mate...

Got loads of bits of materials in boxes so its exciting yet frustrating as well.
I hate discovering small things that hold everything up.

Keep us posted on the cutting etc.

Had a little break on this during the heatwave in Finland (+29C - not much but a lot in here at this time of year)

The aluminium bars are at my place now, but would have hoped them to be maybe in a little better shape. Need to clean them but after that there will sadly be some scratches etc. that I just need to try to hide :( I guess it would be too much to expect 110% condition for something that usually goes to building sites etc. I can live with them, but this will affect my future plans in some regard...

edit,

the metal plates I will get at the end of this week.

End caps arrived. Took a little risk and ordered enough for 10 rigs. Also ended up ordering a seat together with Raitziger (they are being sold in pairs) with a very reasonable price.. (150€ /piece with runners)

This will do for starters, but no doubt I might end up bying something nicer if the financial situation starts to get little better.

Looks like a good design Timppaq. Have you tested the seat mounting yet? The two points of contact with the main frame appears like it may be insufficient to hold the weight of a seat and person without wobbling somewhat.
My only other critique is the triple monitor mount. You've taken a nice rig design and made it look like a desk with the wrap-around table and extra legs.
I think you'd be better to incorporate Vesa mounting brackets off a single arm.

Not tested anything really yet. Next week possibly I will have all the parts and will then start to test everything out. VESA mounting is very much a possibility, but first I need to test the general stability. The mount would need to be specially made for this and it might end up costing more than I can afford just now. But I will keep that in mind 👍 Personally I will keep the "desk" as I need the table space and as I use one of the monitors as a TV also so it needs to be easily removed from the rig.

Thanks Raitzi  I hope you're not offended, the seat is very nice!! ;)

(just thinking about something like 800€ recaro you know :D)

edit,

just got a call - will get the metal plates today.. nice to finally see how those ended up. :)

Laser cut metal plates arrived, and boy do they look good. But how hard can it be? Wrong amounts!!!! :ouch: (2pcs should have been 4 and 4pcs should have been 2) No problem though, can be solved with a phone call..

I'll put some pics up on the weekend, maybe somebody is interested... :dopey:

haha, yeah. Got technical problems with the pics I meant to upload... so those are coming soony'ish. The pics will show just some little details of the metal sheets. btw, I haven't heard anything yet from the plywoods, maybe this week.

But we got the seats with Raitzi, you can see some pics in his thread 👍

Can you find them from this:

:)

(no sign of the plywoods just yet.. :()

All aluminium bars are now cut to lenght & adjustment holes drilled. So all is basically ready for assembly, just need to get those damn plywoods and get the seat that is still currently at Raitziger's possession. :)

Getting close now... just need the damn game, soony!! :dunce:

Looking great Timo... really professional looking.. can't wait to see the finished product. 👍

Thanks guys 👍

I try to remember to get a few pics of the keyboard "holder" later as I think it kind of looks cool :)

Just put the basic parts together and so far it looks & feels really good. So there is hope that it'll work too. It's far more rigid than my current one that still beats everything I've tried.. :) Once I get the plywoods and the seat it's ready :D

On a side note, I would really like to hear what you lot think of this so far.. There's been loads of viewers but more feedback would always be really welcomed. Good or bad, just tell me what you think. Would be really appreciated. But so far I've taken it like I do at work.. as long as I don't hear anything everything is going well :) ..I hope it's the same here.

I think that most of us are waiting to see it assembled and ready for action before giving comments ;) So keep up the good work 👍
