Hi again, I have seen the sketches that you have been working on and it seems to me that it looks like something that I would be interested in.

Furthermore I really liked the shifter position with the added "armrest" in the second edition, but I, and this is just my opinion would hesitate to have a rig set up in such a manner that I have to cross over a bar to get seated, its not only for "comfort" issues, but as they say most accidents happen in the home .

So I wonder if it would be possible to have the right side of the cockpit as in your second sketch, while the left side (side of entry) is like the first prototype you have built, though with two bars attached as "ordinary legs" to the frame of the seat.

Anyway my question matters little, as it depends on your wish to combine or costumize a cockpit if there would be any wishes to do so.

This is very much still possible. On the entry side is quite hard to get the bar lower than it is now. So I think it has to stay the way it is for a while at least.. If I come up with something I let you know.

Just lenghten the bar under the shifter. I'll think about including that plywood part if there'll be more people wanting something like that 👍

In the lower pic you can see that I've raised the pedal section to rest above the cross bar (vs. previous 3d-model pics). This raises the pedals 50mm, and is just an option that came along when I redid the pedals. You still can raise them more if you wish though.. just add lenght to the threaded bars on the 'pedal feet'. This will make the driving position more like in a single seater. So now the relative heights of the wheel, the pedals & the seat is even more freely adjustable.

Otherwise, I just send some querys for those proto 2.0 parts. At this point it's looking good and it seems like the costs will drop still.

The aluminiums bars will weight now ~5kg, so the total weight (other parts being 6,3kg) is 11,3kg (without the bolts & nuts) So under 12kg total weight, without a seat.

- Laser cut metal plates
- CNC machined plywoods (painted or not painted - we'll see about that)
- Plastic end caps
- Screws, threaded bars etc.
- Complete instructions for making the aluminiums & for the assembly


So NO seat, just to make sure. But as I said this way the package will weight under 7kg's and should be reasonable enough to send quite far also.

It really is an easy job. I had good tools when I did the proto (cut the aluminiums to lenght & drill) with my friend and it took about an hour in total. 👍

Great looking rig Timppaq 👍 Now when do you plan on implementing motion simulation for your future variants?

I really like the adjustability of your rig though and in fact I might consider buying one in the future if you plan on putting it into production. The only thing is, if I were to get rid of my cheap-o Obutto cockpit (which works well enough really) I would really like to upgrade to a reasonably priced motion sim rig to really take my sim racing experience to the next level.

Either way, I will definitely continue to follow your project with interest and as a potential customer

Motion rigs are out of my league I'm afraid! The next revision will still be a step in a right direction I'm sure, with basically everything adjustable. The "most recent feature" - the pedal height adjustment - will be great I'm sure. That way there is a possibility to get very similar driving position to what the new F1 Playseat has. But it comes just as an addition.

When I get the next proto done, I'll post pics of it in different driving positions. The first one was just to make sure the basics work and that the rig is sturdy enough. With the second one I can focus more on the little details.

Did again some little changes, hopefully for the better.

- Screen desk height adjustment done with a threaded bar (as I do love them ) --> the extra length will be hidden.
- Pedal section height adjustment changed --> the whole thing stands only on those 6 legs and now also the weight of the feet will be added to make the rig more stable against the floor.
- Added screens about the "inverted pedals" option, where every pedal would be bolted seperately to the aluminium bars. This way also the cross directional distances between the pedals can be adjusted on the fly. Also put a plate there where your feet would be resting, this plate will rise along if the pedal height is being adjusted.

For the next proto, I might try (depending on the price) cutting the plywoods also with a laser. Hoping that it'll be even cheaper We'll see soon (querys out)...

And as far as comparing to Playseat... well, don't know about the looks but when using (as I did use a PS last time in the GT5 demo session).. you really can't even compare these.. I know it's me saying this but it's the truth.

Very good design I like it. Did you do all the fabricating yourself? I have to ask what was the reason behind making your seat float? I just finished my rig and was curious.

The main reason is to give more freedom how low you can put the seat. With the latest design you can put it really low if you like. And with the ability to rise the pedal section you can have as "low" seating position as you ever want. Just like in a single seater if you wish. But at the same time you also can adjust it to be more normal. Everything should be possible. And another thing is that the less you have stuff laying against the floor the easier the hoovering etc will be. I have noticed with my old rig that it was a pain in the a... to clean under. This way it should be very easy. Your better half will like that feature I'm sure

So, time to take the next step..

I've decided today after more testing with the proto rig that I can safely order the first set of 10 DIY kits, as all the main changes in this newest version are done to the aluminium parts (and I got the quotes back). So no risk ordering all of the metal & plywood parts. This will take some time though so stay tuned...

Another thing, I calculated the avarage result from the poll just for reference and it's just over 310€ from 63 votes.. (if I didn't mess up).. as I'm very close to knowing the exact price for the first ten DIY kits that I will put on sale. And I can now safely say that the first ten will go some cheaper than the calculated avarage price (exluding shipping). Thanks for all the voters !

Yes, absolutely 👍 Just need to flip the little piece of plywood the other way (one bigger radius corner there). All the other parts will fit just the same way..

The pedal section is looking to get a plywood under the pedals also btw, I forgot to post a pic today, will do that tomorrow (can't now). This is to make absolutely sure that pedal section won't give in at all.

I will tell all the final details about the purchasing when I have all the parts here and I have checked them to be ok and ready to be sold. I think it's better not to make / take any orders before the final product is ready (built & assembled) and I can show you all what it will be like.

But at this point any "reservations" etc., should be handled and discussed via private messages. 👍 So again, if you are interested of getting one of these first 10 PM away. A few has already PM'd me asking about this and I take that as a good sign, but it's not too late yet!

So here's the latest design as I yesterday promised..

It seems most likely that the plywoods will not be painted, but made from a nice half-glossy dark brown grade that will not need any painting necessarily. Nobody will prevent you from painting them though.
