Yep. Sucks to be me.
Hey, I quit last Monday! Lets get a major case of sucks to be us going on here!

Sorry to hear that Mile, and it did not exactly come at the best of times either.

EDIT: On second thought, you must have really F-ed up bad for them to fire someone on a wednesday.

No. I'm not lying. I worked there for four years and I've seen how they operate. I've seen others get canned just like I did.

My supervisor quit about a month and half ago. Looking back I can see how they used that opportunity to basically restructure their accounting department to one person. They started taking some of my work away, telling me it was "temporary". And I was dumb enough to believe them.

I didn't do anything wrong. I was told there is not enough work for me anymore.

In four years I've never been talked to about anything, never had a performance evaluation, nothing. I was blind-sided. But hindsight is 20/20. I should've seen it coming. I should've left a long time ago.

OUch, I've been through that. Last time I was laid off, I was in the middle of a project. 6 days from deadline.

They said "effective immeditately", I said "who do I give this stuff to?" They said.. "Ummm...didn't know that...Ahhh...Can you stay on another week?"

Any guesses on what combination of words I responded with?

Milefile, I know what you're going through. Been there, done that, and can say I don't want to again. I'd love to offer words of advice and comfort, but there are none. It just sucks.

Jump on the net, and find every head hunter in the area. Monster.com and hotjobs.com might help.

Good luck, and keep those of us that care, up to date.

Till later,

AO

Chicken butt. Well that's helpful.
Yep, sucks to get fired.
Good luck with the market; last I heard, experts were saying that it's crap to get a job nowadays.

Company's downsizing Inflation's rising. All for ends. . .

Corporate America sucks. That is why on a pair of jean shorts I had to repair a tear in the butt area from wear and tear; sits a beautiful patch labeled "Corporation" that gets farrted on all the time. It is more of a non-vocal statement I make.

You were saying your work buddy left and you were motivated to leave yourself. Here is your motivation. Stick it to the man over there and work for their opposition : ), but like I said, something is better for you out there, take this and turn it into a block. Then Smash it because you can : ).

Ooooh, what an exciting way to end your day. Good luck, and keep us posted. If I can help in any way don't hesitate to ask. I'd offer advice, but Der Alta has covered it pretty well.

My condolences, man.

Holy crap man. Sorry to hear that.

How's the job market in Pheonix? I heard about a year ago its pretty good in that region, with all the growth. And you were planning a career change anyway, right?

I worked for 6 months at a .dot startup that couldn't afford to pay me... which was pretty much the same as not having a job from my point of view. DA's right.. not much in the way of comfort we can offer. It does just suck.

Hang in there and let us know how it goes.

Duuuuuuude, duude. Duuuuuude.

Sorry to hear that. I've yet to feel the pain of being fired; I bet it feels nasty.

You just recently sold your house, right?

I'd love to be fired from my current job. I'm going to work about 35 hours this Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Sunday is going to especially suck. I'll get home on Saturday at about 1 AM, then I've got to get up at about 5:15 to get to work. Ugh.

Thanks for the sympathy guys.

I feel okay and know I'll eventually find a job. It's not the end of the world. In a way I actually feel hopeful because my employer really did suck. It's liberating in a way.

I have a bunch of jobs already saved in my HotJobs and will put together a resume in the morning, and send it out. I guess the fact that my job was pretty crappy is good in a way because it makes it easier to replace it with a better one.

It's gonna be wierd to not leave at 6:25 tomorrow morning. Very wierd.

Yep. Sucks indeed. I've been there.

Sorry to hear it mileflile and I wish you the best of luck in finding something new.

Sorry to hear that man. 👎

I've never been in a job or anything, but getting fired really sucks. Hope things get better for you soon, good luck. 👍

Well... While I sympathise with your plight, you have been talking about leaving them, and haven't yet done anything about it...

Still, I hope the job search brings you a great job and soon.

Sorry for you Mile, I wish time make this a good turning point for you.

I'm in a similar situation at my job right now, if they could fire me I know they would, I'm seen as an expense for a service and I don't see how I could enjoy my workdays here, or get back the motivation I had in the past working for them (been working an average of 60 hrs a week for a long time, or even doing 24 or 36 hours shifts during some crisis, and I'm paid on a weekly basis, I get nothing more for overtime.) This will happen to me sooner or later so I better find something else while they're still needing me.

Yup.

Maybe it is a perfect opportunity to try find a job that involves an interest/passion of yours.

Leaving that place was pretty high on the priority list. But I was sort of stuck for the immediate future due to being pre-qualified for a new mortgage. I was waiting to make any changes until after closing.

That is the hard part about all of this. My plans to move and have a new house built are basically ruined. I have no idea how it all will pan out, but it's hard to see our plans taking place any time soon now. Selling our house, picking a new one, and all the stuff that goes along with that has been pretty all-encompassing for a few weeks. My mind gravitates to it only to be instantaneously reminded that it's all over. It is definitely the biggest disappointment I've ever had.

Well... back to the resume.

Oh yeah, if anybody thinks they could be helpful by critiqueing my resume send me a PM telling me that and I'll email it for your evaluation. It's been a long time since I've had to make one.

You didn't give us much of a chance to guess though!!

Seriously though, thats bad luck. Isn't that a breach of contract? They can't just say "we don't need you any more so clear your desk", can they?

In England you can't fire someone for no good reason. And when someone is getting fired they have to have 2 weeks notice unless it's for gross misconduct.

I believe AZ is an "employment at will" state, meaning an employer can fire you for not liking the color of your tie.

I could be wrong, though.

Ouch....sorry to hear that Eric.

I know you wanted out, but use the energy you have left (if any?) to look for a job pronto. The more you wait, the more it hurts.

A lot of jobs are given to people through word-of-mouth, or maybe a former employer/employee (with their own firm) can help you out in the meanwhile.

Just my two cents. (Other than that, you've unintentionally bummed me out for the rest of the day.) :(

Sorry Josh.

AZ is an "at will" state. you can be fired for no reason at all. In fact, most employers prefer to not give any reason.

My realtor says if I can find a job in the same field in a reasonable amount of time we should have no problems moving forward on the new house, which is a good thing because we are bound by contract to sell this place. The buyer could be a nice guy and let us out, but I doubt he would. And anyone who's offered their opinion so far (realtor, parents, etc.) thinks we should go through with it.

Wow, sorry to hear that Eric.

My dad might be in a similar plight soon – Two days ago he got his pink slip, notifying him that he's "at risk" for being laid off from where he works (Rocketdyne). He's been working there full time for like 16 or 17 years now, so it's a pretty big deal. The worst part is that he's only one year away from reaching 65, which would give him full benefits (including health insurance) – If he gets laid off now, he won't get those full benefits, and we'd probably have to pay for an outside insurance company. Poo.

Meh, **** it.

I mean, if your job really was as dumb as you made it sound.

Bummer about the timing though, with the new house and all.

I hope you find a new job soon, something cool!

I was one month away from a nice, hefty vacation check.
