Wow, you're one of the last people I would think to get fired. From what I see on here, you have amazing work ethic and you're a very cool guy.

I've also yet to endure the pain of being fired. I have to get a real salary job this summer. I'm not afraid, but I'm reluctant as how to go about it.

Well, my condolences, and Doug does need another hooker in his...erm..."troupe de whore." Well, to make it a troupe anyway. It's only him and Christiaaaaan so far.

So what have you been doing since youve been out of work? Is it different with the time?

I've just been lying on the couch, watching TV and eating Pringles.

Actually I've been working on my resume and looking for a new job.

You'd thnk I'd have all the time in the world now, but I was actaully runnung late all day. I'm just too used to my routine. Take it away and I'm a fish out of water... a late fish.

Yeah. I rule.

Seriously, though, thanks for saying so.

They actually just eliminated my position. My immediate supervisor quit about two months ago. His replacement makes half what he did, and does all of my former work. The higher level stuff is now done by an independent contractor who only comes in a couple days a week. They figured out how to cut their costs, and I guess that's what business is all about. It just sucks to be at the wrong end of it.

Reminds me of a Futurama episode.

"And now all work is done by a single Australian man." Or something to that effect.

What the hell industry were you working in? I think you've mentioned it before, but I've since forgotten.

I started off doing a few different things. In addition to accounting work I designed the catalog, took photos for production documentation type stuff, did document developing and editing. I got to use cool software like Photoshop and Quark at work. Over time the interesting work became fewer and farther between.

The company makes disposable, plastic scientific supplies. The owner owns his own plane and keeps it in a hanger that is part of the building. Every time I see him the word "troll" comes to mind.

Well, my dad just learned today that he will indeed be laid off. Nuts.

Ouch. I hope you (and recently Sage's..i mean youth_cycler's dad) find some new work soon, and everything goes well...

Good luck out there. 👍

Sorry to hear about your dad, Sage. It's tough all around I guess.

I learned that the sale of my house and the purchase of the new one should all go as originally planned, provided I get a comparable job in a reasonable amount of time. And by reasonable I mean before closing on the new house, which won't be until October at the earliest. That is a huge weight off my mind.

I have an interview Monday morning. It sounds like a good company and a good position with room for growth, unlike the one I just lost. The woman I spoke to sounded pretty enthusiastic. I hope I can keep her that way after she meets me.

Thanks, guys. :) It's not a huge deal – He's of retirement age anyway, has been working with the company for 18 years, and has put 20% of every paycheck into his retirement account, so financially we'll be perfectly fine. Of course, like I mentioned earlier, the extra health insurance stuff would've been nice, but we'll live. He plans on just doing contract work now.

Eric, out of curiosity, does your wife work?

Last year due to restructuring at my Dad's work he left his job. His position was to be combined with another and he didn't want it. We lived in Wellington and there wasn't enough jobs that he was interested in so he looked else where. He came up to Auckland for an interview and got the job or something along those lines.

Anyway we moved to Auckland at the beginning of this year, and mind you he got the job about June last year so he lived up there by himself and we went up to visit him, afew times.

The sucky thing is houses cost alot more here and since we own two of them mostly mortgaged my mum has to work too, but shes got a good job and soldiers on.

Oh, cheez, Sage, I'm sorry to hear it. I know you guys should be welkl set, but it's nice to do things when you want to , not when they want you to.

Well the job search is going well, I think. I still don't have a job, but I've been on two interviews and have two more tomorrow. I know I have a good chance with at least one of them. It would be awesome to have this solved by the end of the week. If I'd known how easy it would be to get interviews I would've started seriously looking a long time ago.

heh, i dont have to worry about being fired at my job at subway. the managers love me and they are losing half of the people this summer to college. i will be the most experienced night-guy. i now have a whole 3-months experience.

I was fired today.

Yep. Sucks to be me.

lol Consider yourself lucky that your boss actually told you. I worked at Lick's (Hamburgers & Ice Cream). They closed for christmas and never opened again. BASTARDS! Now it's a Money Mart or something like that. Pfft, who needs em!:trouble:

Well I think the job search is going well. I've been on several interviews this week although I was only into one of them, and they chose my competitor. I suspect sexism, only because the interviewer asked me if I'd have a problem with a female boss. I said no, and that's true. She ended up hiring a female. Oh well. I have another one I'm psyched about on Tuesday morning. If things go well they may make an offer right then. It's a little less money, but only technically. I worked five hours over time every week at my last job, which made my check a lot more than it would've been otherwise. Taking into account the overtime this new opportunity is less money, but I'd be working less, and hourly it is quite a bit more, even though the paycheck would be smaller. I am still considering it, though, because it is a good company to work for with great possibilities for advancement and growth. There was none at my last position.

So I guess I get the weekend off. Having gotten some good results should be enough for me to allow myself to relax, finally. Going to work every day is a lot easier and more simple than looking for a job.

Good luck for the interview. Even if this isnt the ideal job, if you get it doesnt mean you cant continue looking for something else whilst working.

Going to work every day is a lot easier and more simple than looking for a job.

Agreed, 100%.

Thanks. I just wish this seven year old felony crap wasn't casting a shadow over it :grumpy:

It's a great company, growing and with plenty of opportunity. I'm pretty psyched about it.

Well done man! At least that is one worry out the way. :)

As soon as this court crap is sorted, it will be back to looking forward to the move 👍

[montyburns] Excellent! [/montyburns] Good to here the downtime was minimal, and it won't interfere with your homebuying plans!
👍

Wow, that sucks. I quit my job a while back but my old boss told all the other workers that i got fired. Made me look like an ass in front of everyone else.

Two weeks. Not bad. I started today. It's a nice place. The first week or so of a new job is always stressful because there's so much to learn, but the people have made me feel very welcome and comfortable. I can actually have a radio, headphones even! This is a far cry from an office where we couldn't even have water at our desks.

Of course on my first day I got a call on my cell from another place I'd sent my resume and am seriously interested in. I'm calling them back on my lunch tomorrow and hopefully can set up an interview immediately following my traffic court date next week so my new employer won't suspect anything. The main benefit of this other opportunity is location. It will be a good 20 miles closer to home after we move, and that's no small consideration.

Hmmm...that bites ....I cant loose my job or I'm screwed....And If I miss 2 days and dont have a good reason(sickness doesnt count....) I'm fired...Though with your problem over which job...go with the easier better paying job!

Excellent job there Mile on getting a job ASAP. : ) That is truly a big accomplishment to do it in the time you did. : )

I haven't been online all week really so I am not sure what is going on with the felony crap : (
