Wow Rat Bastid I'm sorry to hear that. That sounds really bad. I hope you've got your life back on track now.
I haven't heard of Crate. I'm kinda looking for "bang-for-the-buck" with an amp so I'll ask around for them.
I had a look at the Pincetone and it looked quite good and not that expensive.
If anything I would of thought that it would be more expensive over here than America as pretty much everything is inflated and over priced here. I'll have to look.
BTW Ryan that looks like a nice new little purchase you've got yourself there. I don't know about you but when I ordered my Fender Strat I was counting down the seconds until I gto it.
And Solid Lifters you're gonna make your own Power amp??
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Have any of you guitar slingers out there had the pleasure to try out and/or hear a "Z" amp?

http://www.drzamps.com/

For tone, their increadable. A buddy of mine came over for a little jam in the studio. We were just doing a single mic, live mix in the room. My bro had his 160w Peavy, my buddy had his 15w Z amp (I really did say 15w). The Peavy couldn't even come close to keeping up with the Z-amp. It was increadable, absolutely the best tone I've heard in person....

Really?
How loud were the two amps?
I would imagine (just a guess) that the 160w Peavey would probably beat the Z amp in tone when they're a lot louder or at their loudest.

The 160w Peavy was cranked to the nuts, but that 15w Z amp just cut through with it's tone. It was increadable. Keep in mind that the Peavy was solid state, and the Z was tube, but still....

The Peavy didn't have a chance.

Thanks Wee-man. It was tough, and it brought on a lot of changes in my life, but you can't keep a good man down. ;)
I meant that a Marshall might be cheaper in the "homeland".

Yeah Pako, those Class A amps are in a league of their own!

Do you guys find that a locally owned shop lets you have more freedom in the store (such as playing the guitar through any amp). Our local store does just that and I keep finding myself giving them the business instead of the large franchise just down the road.

It depends...., our band has spent well over $20k in combined efforts of buying equipment. As a result, we suggested to play anything and everything in the local store, however, I think at one of the local store's anyways, they get a lot of jammers that have no intention to every buy anything from them. They just want to jam out on new stuff...., they can usually spot these "jammers" and not allow them to play the expensive equipment, or any equipment for that matter.

I don't have any real large franchise stores near me. Most of the stores are just privatly owned. There's one place though which I only really go to where the bloke who runs it is just as a bigga nut as you and i. He knows he gets tones of jammers in there, but I think he doesn't mind. If anything they kind of slightly encourage it with signs around the shop just saying "if you wish to play a guitar, ask an assistant and they would be more than happy to let you play and help you" .
It's kool though they're really helpful.
They've turned into a huge shop now and basically sell everything to do with electric guitars, bases and drums and recording equipment and amps.
If anything really it's the other way round as I've found some of the smaller shops are less willing to let you try thier stuff.

Check it out.

Very nice Kosmic.
Though not sure about the colour not my first choice. ;) :p
Is it a Squire or Fender or something else.
BTW I couldn't help notic the picture in the background. Whose it of?
:odd:

Not long, its actually my Dad's but we share it. He kicks ass, I'm still struggling with basic chords. I plan to take some classes in high school.

What about getting your dad to teach you or teaching yourself. From what I've learnt from freinds and people I know lessons tend to actually put off people learning guitar, although I shouldn't be saying that now I'm a guitar tutor and give lesson/s...:odd:
I mean I tought myself, and for some reason some one wants to hire me to teach there son guitar. hmm...
:odd:

Yea, when I first started playing I took lessons for a few months and then I stopped when school started. Once I stopped, I progressed at least three times faster then I did while taking lessons.

I got an Epiphone Les Paul Special II around November. Newb guitar.. hence I am a newb hehe. Its cherry sunburst, might post a pic some time. Got a Crate 12 watt RMS amp. Basically playing single finger power chords in Drop-D Tuning... Havent had any time to practice chords or finger positioning and so on. Still a complete newb after all these months :banghead: Teaching myself also... but all I like to do is play heavy which doesnt help. I saw a program for PC made by eMedia which is supposed to be good to start learning guitar.. anyone heard of it? Good or not?

Hey Kosmik, maybe you could tell Wee-man about your Crate. He's thinking about buying one.

I had no idea B.C. Rich ever made Teles, pretty cool. It looks like a mid-'80s by the headstock. Ever had it appraised?

Nah, then we'd be anticipating too much and then feel down if it wasn't as high as we thought. With the money from my job I might buy a Stratocaster but I'm not sure.

What's the crate like? (thanks for tryig Rat Bastid - i'll give him a try....

Fender's are really nice, the best tone and sound IMO :D , but are really heavy. Some how I managed to get a trapped nerve in my shoulder from my strap - I think it was more to do with the strap then guitar but still the weight didn't help.

My freind Alex who has been playing lead guitar for 5 years and is amazing said after he saw me play at a gig that he wished that he could have a guitar with my sound (my guitar a Fender Strat BTW for anyone who didn't read the begginging [<---spelling] of this thread) but with the body of his guitar which is an Epipgone Les Paul, in red sun burst.
Personally I prefer the shape of Les Pauls, but prefer the sound of my strat. Hopefully I'll own both some day.;)

T13R: I have to confess pretty often now I catch myself drop D tuning my strat and doing those chords with some lics in between. I love the sound of them, and considering I play quite a lot of Rage Against The Machine, they use it a lot as well.

I use Drop D tuning mostly because I listen to Rammstein and their music is pretty much all in Drop D. Plus the other music that I like ( Linkin Park and System of a Down ) uses Drop C I think. But I dont like bringing my guitar that low, so Drop D is a good compromise for me. And I made a mistake, my guitar color is Red Sunburst ( not cherry  ). Should look pretty much the same as you friends guitar wee_man. Gonna go take a pic and will post in a minute or so.

Sorry for the crapy picture, here's a shot of the actual rig, the picture was taken from my Video Camera as a still, thus the poor quality, but without further delay (my two bass' with my SWR rig, SM-900 amp, Golioth III 4x10" cab, Tuner, effects, and SKB case):

You got a nice set-up there Pako.
BTW which Bass do you prefer for jamming and live performances?
What's the wattage on your amp?

T13R:
That's a nice guitar you have there especially if that's your first.
Same as you I also like System, and would drop C it but can't be arsed most of the time so like you I find drop D is a good compramise as you said.

Well I'm off for 5 days so keep this thread going you lot...

*snip*

For live I run with the Fender now... I still haven't got a hard case for the Warwick yet, so I get a little sketched out bring it to gigs.

The amp? It's a two channel 400w per channel amp, but I run it mono for it's full 900w's of power. I have to watch my volume, however, my cabinet is only rated for 700w and have on occation heard little popping noises when I try to push the volume, so I just run my base throught he P.A. if I run through those situations. The output is all solid state, but all the preamp stage is tube. It's a really clean and transparent setup.

That is a serious piece of kit. How much did that lot cost you then.

Cost? Let me try an brake it down...and note, some costs were retail new and others used, and also keep in mind that I make money using this stuff... :)

SM-900 Amp $1200 (used)
Korg DTR Tuner $300 (new)
SKB Case $229 (new)
Goliath 700w Cabinet $700 (new)

The Fender was $1200 and the Warwick was just under $1700.

Keep in mind, I have been playing music for money for the past 5 years now, so all of my music money has gone back into the habbit. :-)

My advise is to have a habbit that pays. :)

Nice. Sounds like you didn't get stiched up.
I'd so love to be in your shoe's where you actually manage to make money from your hobby. Hopefully my band will get to that stage some day :irked: .
Have you made money on playing gigs etc. yet?

Oh man, that's what it's all about. We average about $375 per gig, but have gotten as much as $1200 for a hour and a half of playing.

Check out www.blueonion.net/when.html to get an idea of how many paying gigs we've had. Just the last couple of gigs this year we've actually taken home, the rest of the gigs went to pay off equipment and such....
