thanks guys much appreciated all the tips on wheel usage and ownership

I has bought the G27 last week, I has no rig now, so only has run a test in a table, but ... wow ... it's amazing and I can't drive with DS3 anymore hahaha (I can, but it's so sad after that short experience :) ).
Waiting for my rig in the next week.... this is how I die.

I think there are a lot of people who never get over the learning curve of the wheel and sell them without using them much. I used an app that scans Craigs list and waited until one came up for cheap, got it under half price and was pretty obviously not used much.

It could also be not having a good place to set the wheel up. Attaching it to the coffee table and trying to wedge your legs underneath gets uncomfortable quick. Heck, I had a bar stool, a kitchen chair and random bits to set mine up at first because I couldn't find a good easy way otherwise... it worked a little but was terribly unstable. Making a game chair is a big commitment to some people, especially if you've got a small place or an apartment with no tools at your disposal.
But man, once the set-up is done, it's so much more fun! Now, if I could just get a decent internet connection so I could play online...

Spot on.

I have a DFGT, I bought it supposedly new from Gamestation... for... *cringe* £100, and it didn't even come with an adaptor. I used it for a few weeks, but because I have no set up it was just attached to a table. I had to lean forward to use it all the time, and it got quite painful on my back, so I gave up and went back to the DS3. I got it back out again for the GT Academy, and I had to attach it to a trusty Ikea stool. That lasted about an hour.

I just need a proper set up for it. I have a gaming chair, a second-hand X-Rocker, but nowhere for my wheel to go. And I certainly can't afford the set up I want. The cheapest I can find the Playseat WRC chair is £300. I don't have that money. So I guess my DFGT is just going to sit collecting dust as it has for the past year or so. :guilty:

The first time I picked up my driving force gt for gt5 prologue
I returned it after 2 days, cause ds3 was much easier to use. Then when gt5 was released I started using the wheel right from the beginning and did the license tests.

The game was way more fun and I could finally get some gold medals from licenses. I am sure with da3 I would have stopped at bronze medals.

There a big difference because PD purposely botched the DS3 controls to lure sales for the wheels.

Very nice find OP, that's so much wheel for so little money. 👍

900 degree steering takes a while to get used to, and a sturdy rig is essential to countersteer, but I'm sure you'll soon find you don't really need to turn the wheel that much although it's 900 degrees. The trick is to do a lap where you turn the wheel a little as possible. ;)

The FFB in GT5 is fantastic! You can take in so much more information on what's going on with the car, you'll feel what the suspension is doing and feel the bumps of the track.

Don't know if you use any driving aids, but once you've got the hang of the wheel try ditching them.

I'm not a driving aids snob btw and I'm an average driver, but I can't emphasise enough how much more involving it is once you get rid of TC and ABS. Ive improved my techniques so much, especially trail braking- with ABS I was lazy and just stomped the pedal, but now I'm actually better into a corner. Different game.

Don't want to turn this into a driving aids argument either!

Good luck.

You're spot on! Every slider you turn to 0 or off just removes filters between you and what the game really has to offer. With no aids you can feel so much more, and it really helps to find out where you're making mistakes and your technique will definitely improve. If everyone with a wheel would just try it for a week or so, they'd get what I mean. :)

wow what a difference a wheel makes. today i picked up a driving force gt wheel (£37 new bargain) have just been putting in practice laps on gt5 amazed at the difference between the ds3 and the wheel.

£37?! Hot Damn. Very Envious, I paid £85 for the wheel 2 years ago.

I paid $130 this past January.

Congrats on your purchase. You may want to look into a wheelstand pro if the racing seats are a bit pricy for you. I have the wheelstand and it works great. It also folds away for easy storage!

Goodluck!

My homemade table from wood found around the house doesn't fold away, or even look very nice, but it does the job just fine. Only problem is it isn't quite heavy enough and can't be bolted down for dealing with "those" moments.

It shouldn't be an unsolvable issue as long as you have the physical space to sit at all properly in front of the game. Now if only I could find a way to keep my chair on the ground when I'm trying to hit the brakes hard(or seemingly to get them to register at all in rFactor)... That one needs some more thought, but it won't be an issue with a DFGT.
