I just wish us Europeans, would not have to wait until next Spring for the beta.

Hmm I might have to try out Halo 1 some time since I can play it on the 360. I have never played Halo 1. I really didnt understand the Halo 2 campaign since I just rushed through it. The matchmaking online is still great even after 2 years!! Thats where Heather and I spent most of our time was playing Halo 2 matchmaking.
Now since Halo 3 will be coming out at the end of next year 2007, I should probably try out Halo 1 and maybe play the campaign of Halo 2 again so I fully understand the campaign.
We also signed up for the Halo 3 beta. I doubt we will get to play but at least we signed up.

Well after seeing the commercial, I'm certainly very excited for the game to debut. Bungie had said last week that the trailer is full of little hints and goodies for us fanboys to enjoy, and thus far, I've spotted a few.

1) Spot number one is the two kids sitting in the grass. A long-distance guess is that it could be John 117 before his entrance into the SPARTAN program, of which he became a part of at the age of seven, but that is pure speculation on my behalf.

2) John 117 looks rough, and he has been getting his ass-kicked, thats pretty clear here. The Covenant appears to have had a more than successful attack on Earth, and it looks as though the game will be played in a very defensive way. The new shield system looks pretty cool, and it will be interesting to see how it fits into the game.

3) The new weapons system is apparent here, where you carry your secondary weapon over your back. The 'Chief has the updated Assault Riffle in tow, which is surprising, as you would figure he would have had a secondary weapon of some kind as well.

4) It is a certainty that the brutes are the bad-guys here.

Does that mean the Elites side with the humans?

5) This game is going to kick-ass. There isn't any questioning of that...

If you read the Halo Novels, then you would know that John was inducted into the program when he was 6. Sorry for the correction, but im reading the novels know and I had to point it out.

Halo 1: BRILLIANT! No Xbox live though :(

Yes, I agree with Halo 1 being great. I still think the first is the best so far, despite it having no Xbox live. Hopefully, Halo 3 will be the best one due to it being their last in the trilogy

After reading the last few replies I will have to check out Halo 1 some time. Like I said above I really dont understand anything about the campaign of Halo 2 and its the only Halo experience I have had. So I definelty want to get a grasp on Halo 1 and Halo 2 before Halo 3 comes out.
The cool part is I think Heather and I can play through the entire co-op together off line in Halo 2. Then we can both understand the story.

I am going to rent Halo1 this weekend since I have never played it before. Maybe it will help me understand the Halo 2 campaign more too.

Ooops, my bad. Some Halo fan I am, lol. I don't know what I've always thought it was seven, I can't remember.

On the subject of Halo: CE:

That is a MUST PLAY title for any XBOX owner. Although I only beat it once with a friend of mine, the game's story alone is worth it. At least do yourself the favor of reading the page on Wiki, it should clue you into a lot of the Halo 2 story, and what should be expected for Halo 3, Halo Wars, and the Halo Movie.

I ended up renting (2) Halo 1 games last night. However Heather and I could only play co-op on split screen. We could not play co-op when we linked our 360s together. We played for about 2 1/2 hours last night and we got to the part where we had to find the ship's brig and rescue Captain Keyes. I think that is the 3rd level.
I am actually shocked to see how much Halo 2 is basically a polished version of Halo 1. Most the same weapons too. We are having fun and we plan on finishing the game tonight or tomorrow on co-op. We will probably also play through Halo 2 co-op. I think on Halo 2 we can link our 360s together and play co-op on our own tvs.

I thought the halo movie was cancelled

As Duck pointed out, it has yet to be canceled, however pre-production is currently on "hiatus" until a studio can be selected for greater financial backing. Keep in mind that it was Universal and Fox who pulled out, and Bungie/Microsoft has been attempting to get either Paramount or Warner Brothers to pick-up the rights to the movie, but no new news yet. IMO, I'd want Mirmax or New Line to do it, but that seems unlikely as this movie will cost a lot to produce.

DWA
There's going to be a movie...?

I hope it's not Doom caliber.

1) Yes, there is a movie. It will be released in the summer of 2008 if things go back on track.

2) No, it won't be "Doom caliber." Given that Peter Jackson (Dead Alive, LOTR, King Kong) will be producing, WETA (Jackson's special effects company) will be doing the SE development and production, the guy who wrote 28 Days Later penned the origional script, and it has been edited by another author closely associated with the Halo Universe (I don't recall the name), and the best thing overall is that Bungie and Microsoft are working very closely with the production of the movie... No crap is going to come there, they know that they need high-quality stuff to keep the fans happy.

I never really enjoyed playing halo 2 on single player, is it much better on live as I dont rate the game at all TBH gameplay wise. Great graphics though.

Halo 2 was all about the multiplayer for me. Campaign mode wasn't bad, but I never sat through the entire thing either.

The campaign in Halo: CE was probably more compelling overall, but I didn't think the Halo 2 version was that bad overall. Sure, the cliffhanger pissed-off a lot of people, but too bad is all I have to say. If we weren't demanding Halo for so long, chances are Halo 2's story would have seemed more "complete" compared to other games.

...I'm still very excited for Halo 3, campaign and multiplayer included. Lets just hope those eight-year-olds stay out for a while so I don't get to wear my ass for a hat on a regular basis...

We rented and beat Halo 1 as a co-op over the weekend. We still have much more to learn about the story line because its still confusing. Oh yeah that last level where you are driving was a b***. We do plan on playing through Halo 2 again some time to hopefully piece more of the story together.
In Halo 1 I thought we blew the Halo up at the end. We blew the ship up and that destroyed the huge Halo ring looking thing. How did there end up being Halo 2? Still confusing. I am also extremely shocked how much Halo 2 is just like Halo 1. I could see where a lot of fanboys would be upset that Halo 2 was just a polished version of Halo 1. If anyone could clear up or quickly explain the Halo story then I would appreciate it.

The Halo in Halo2 is the Delta Halo, yet another weapon made by the forerunners, the Halos are a system of superweapons.

The theory is that Earth is some kind of weapon, or some kind of tool to activate the Halo rings in Halo 3. At least, thats what the rumors are pointing to based on the origional Halo 3 trailer from E3.

If you really want to dive deep and get really creepy with the Halo franchise, look no further than the Cortana Letters from 1999 that were thought to be a part of the then-rumored Marathon game. There are some creepy tie-ins to the Halo franchise in CE, 2, and presumably 3.

I did a long examination of the letters by comparison to what we know from the current games and the first Halo 3 trailer, and that can all be found here on my blog. Feel free to talk more about it, I did find it rather interesting.

So I was watching the new Halo 3 "Et tu Brute?" documentary, and I noticed something striking. . .

The gameplay models and areas look NOTHING like the Video we saw at E3. . .

Anyone have any comments? Or is there a get out of jail free card here?

Maybe it's because it's an alpha build right now? Or maybe it's reason is the same reason MGS4 gameplay doesn't look as good as it's TGS '05 trailer.

Or heck, maybe Bungie after all lied a thousand times about the trailer running off 360 hardware.

Who cares, anyway? The game's not even close to being out yet, and E3 was months ago.

MGS4 is a few hundred times closer to it's trailers than Halo 3. And I find it hard to believe the game is going to make a leap THAT big in 10 months. Especially considering that Gears looked about as good as the E3 trailer, and has a max of 8 people on screen, and it looks (and sounds) like Halo 3 will have about 32.

Halo 3 will NOT look like that trailer, not today, not tomorrow. I care, because it's funny. Alpha build or not, they didn't just waste time creating textures only to replace them again...you run your alpha build with no textures, and slowly add everything and tweak it for optimal performance. They're not going to suddenly bump up the res on all the textures and then make the game look miraculous.

It's just hypocrisy by the fans, and I revel in it :)
