What would be the point to where you would feel someone would need to be IP banned?

If you guys do not IP Ban, what is the reason behind that?

They do IP ban I believe. The reason is simple. Too stop the idiots from coming back over and over.

I think they IP ban when someone advertises or is very very annoying.

like PS... but he alwayhs uses diffrent pc's

Stupid persistence = IP ban.

And yes, we’ve used it on numerous occasions.

And how about those people on a dynamic IP connection? Such as my own, all I need to do is turn my router off, and turn it back on, and I am assigned a new external IP (althought the internal LAN IPs stay the same)

Well, those people are special. Another problem is trying to ban someone from ntl or one of the other ISPs that uses proxies. Ban one ntl IP and you can ban several hundred or thousand users at a time.

That's how I overcame my IP ban :)

But I'm not as bad as what I was before :D

Pah!...

And I think I can mention a couple that received an IP ban (or two) :D

I was accidentally IP banned by a fellow admin on my clans Swat 4 server, he attempted to ban a trouble maker ID number but accidentally pressed enter on mine. :(

Luckily I did manage to change my IP and got back online.

Yes, people have been IP banned. Of course there are ways round everything, but if someone is willing to return and behave, we do not have a problem.

Though if someone is not willing to return and behave, we still don't have a problem, because we have 24/7 moderator coverage and a very good inter-moderator communication system. And long memories, bad tempers and oodles of patience. Peace and quiet is only ever 5 clicks away.

Though as I said, there's ways round everything, but it takes a very special kind of idiot to keep coming back to a site which has made it clear it doesn't like you.

Mentioning no PublicSecrecy. I mean names.

I'm on a dynamic ip address. I think its the standard for people on adsl in australia...

Not entirely the case, TPG offers a static IP for an extra $5-$10 per month.

5 clicks? THAT many?

I also need to ask, why are there so many members that have requested that they be banned for a lenght of time, or even indefinitely? If you don't want to come back, then don't! Easy! Or is it a case of those people have said "GO ON BAAAAN ME!! C IF I GIVE A FLYING **** U STOOPID ****TARD MOD! U DUN SCARE ME!!!! PISS WEEK!!!!" or something similar?

Some people request time away when they have important things going on in their lives because they simply don't have enough willpower to stay away voluntarily.

We're that great.

But yes, there's at least one instance of a tirade of profanities with "ban mi then i dont car" - which, I should add, appeared in a moderator report - and we were more than happy to oblige.

I can understand that, but why have people like Electric....... requested to be permanently banned?

Probably similar to what Famine said - except they don't want anything to do with GTP anymore because it's keeping them from doing what they want to do in life. I can properly understand that.

Yeah, we only need to be asked once.

We have a league table.
Who is at the top of the leaderboard? My guess would be Famine or Duke

They should make it public. I bet there's all sorts of cool stuff on there like:

  • Fastest Ban ever !
  • Fastests consecutive Bans !
  • Fastests consecutive Bans of 3 or more !
  • Most Bans in one day !
  • Most Bans of PublicSecrecy accounts !
  • Largest IP Pool ban (Ban 255.255.255.255 - *click* )

etc..

Wrong on both counts.

How long has Famine been here as a mod? He's not going to be top of the banninations leaderboard already. If it was number of bans divided by length of time as a mod, then he probably would be, yes.

I have logged on from I think 3 different IPs. When people log on from different IPs a lot, is that something you guys would be concerned about?

Can you see what OS and browser people log on with?

errr, nope. Try 16!

EDIT: I've used 54 different IPs.

Doesn't PunkRock have something like 40+ bans?
There are quite a few mods with 40+ bans.

But I've said too much. I'm going to have to kill you all now!

Not that I would ever want to spam this board, but just out of curiousity...

How does one change their IP address if they are running XP and have a cable modem/wireless linksys 2.4ghz hub?

Totally uselsess, but very fun information. I think Sage has banned the most PS accounts though.

Yeah, some forum out there has it where a user can get banned by losing smartness (bad grammar, stupid words/phrases like hax and FTW)

Then they get autobanned for X amount of days.

If one says a word/website/phrase that is extremely wrong (shock image/site material) they are instabanned for X amount of days.

I remember also seeing a ban list linking to their post as to why they got banned and for how long the ban is.

Finally...a list of people who have gotten banned the most (with or without their alternate accounts or even IPs perhaps) and top banners :)

So yeah...

Your IP is dependant on what IP your ISP provides you with. At the minute, my ISP provides me with the same one all the time. There's a command you can use in a dos window (which escapes me at the minute) to release your IP. The last time I did that, I got the same IP again when I logged back on.

Yeah, DOS doesn't seem to like me too much (usually shuts down after a second of being open)

the command is "cmd" :)

Yeah, that's to get the dos window. I can't remember the command to free your IP.

Ah, here it is. In a dos window type ipconfig /release

yep and then ipconfig /renew to get a new one. :)
