Has Anyone Noticed That There's No Damage In GT6?

perhaps fuel should be affected by how much we dip into the pedal.

That part is already there. Try it for yourself in that fuel saver coffee break challenge.

I think the other aspects you mention are probably too much to add on the PS3. But who knows, maybe they are working on it for next gen...

How about the old TOCA game as a benchmark. You could end up driving around with your bumpers hanging off. Or the WRC series recently has a lot more realistic damage compared to GT6. And how come I can't smash a mirror off in any GT game.... I want to give my car that sleek look.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but there is actually no damage in GT6 whatsoever. All that seems to happen is that the cars look a little bit "dusty" after collisions.

See what I mean for yourself here.

Your thoughts?

I didn't notice, I drive correctly, but thanks for the trivia.

I want GT to be as realistic as possible, therefore I want realistic damage. When you drive a game where one wrong move can total your entire race the challenge is so much greater and it's so much more satisfying when you avoid it all to take the checker.
This will likely NEVER happen in a GT game.

Hm. Is there any console game that's a good compromise between driving physics and damage modeling?

GRID: FANTASTIC damage modeling (with appropriate consequences.) Arcade-y physics.
Assetto Corsa and Project Cars are going to be released for next gen consoles "soon"

They are meant to be pure sims that will be released to consoles and such. Should be interesting

It's not released until later in the year and only headed for PC at the moment, but if BugBear's Next Car Game recieves enough backing, (was on Kickstarter, now on Steam) they will release it on console as well. I've already donated/pre-ordered, the early access demo is amazing.

Cars feel heavy, and contact with other vehicles feels weighty and solid. Seeing cars rolling, flicking up clouds of dirt and ripping themselves to shreads in the process looks amazing.
Nice. Looks like a higher-res GRID. Seems to be more destructible environment pieces, too.

Not that I aim to drive like I'm in a demolition derby in GT, mind you. But, I think it'd be a nice bit of extra impetus to drive cleanly, knowing the stakes were higher.

There is damage, and IMO it is more realistic looking in the sense that they actually look like dents instead of just simple deformation which looks like your car is liquefying.

I haven't spent my time on photo mode until recently.

Here are several pics I took for showing some minor damages:

As I move the camera & try to find angles to reveal the wrinkles clearer, at a point I feel the uneven surface is more of a smart rendering skill. It goes back to smooth & straight when the camera is moved to some certain position and angle. Pity I can not capture the changes.

This is the other undamaged side for comparison:

It's a kind of bump-mapping texture that's applied, from perpendicular angles it looks bumpy but as you start to look along the panel you see that the "shape" hasn't actually been applied to the body.

Still, it's better than those huge drunken side-of-the-mouth belches that the Ferrari 458 used to do.

Some here say that they want completely realistic crashing physics.... well, I think, If you want to wreck cars, GT is not your game. No need to waste so much resources in trying to build a good crashing/crumpling physics, this is about driving, not wrecking cars. I want most -if not all- the resources (both hardware and developing resources) focussed to the general gameplay, the driving physics, the visuals, and the sound. I dont care if a car doesnt realistically wreck in a 200mph crash... i suppose only crash fans and stunt fans like that. I like driving, and GT is a driving game.

I'm not a crash fan or stunt fan, merely a fan of reality, & The Real Driving Simulator's crash damage is seriously unreal. Crashing & wrecking a car is unfortunately part of racing, & that aspect of reality should be simulated along with everything else which is integral to the experience imo.

@LS Chiou - Interesting pics. Looks like the reflection mapping is being warped to simulate the effect of dents, even though there isn't any actual body deformation.

I'll never understand this... Do you like winning races, or you prefer crashing out of the races? crashing and wrecking cars is the worst part of racing, it's the thing that no professional driver wants to know/talk about.
In GT6 there is mechanical damage and some visual damage, and that for me is enough.

I prefer winning races that I actually would've won in real life. I don't like winning races because I've bounced off a wall in an indestructible car & continued on because of GT's lack of realism.

Seriously? You've never heard of drivers talking about crashing? I don't believe that for one second.

Come on man... Enable full damage and if you bounce off a wall your car will become useless and you'll need to enter the pits. Thats what I'm talking about, visually the car will not be wrecked but mechanically, yes.

I said that drivers never want to talk about a crash, but sometimes they have to.

At least the car wash is useful now, washing of the crash dust ;)

lol, thats a thing I dont understand. You do some race with several crashes, the car looks very dirty and all, but if you start another race, the car looks clean again, am I right?
To be honest I've never tried to wash the car in GT6 and see the before-after, but in GT5 didnt seem that the cars got dirty and if you washed them you barely seem to notice any difference...

Indeed it had no use at all in GT5, did they at least update that a little for GT6 so you notice a difference? Test it with a car you drove a lot of km's with if you can.
Seeing how much copy-paste GT6 is from 5, i suppose it's still the same no...

I will test it.
I remember that I used to do it in old GT's and you noticed a difference.

Indeed i liked that actually 👍

Let us know.

Hmm... I might check out some of my cars already got white dirt around body after driven a lot of KM or Miles on Indy or other tracks.

Just done it, seems like its the same as GT5, you dont see a difference... The cars look like being automatically washed (and body repaired!) for free after you finish every race, so its pointless...

Exactly what GT needs. Along with pitstops that last minutes or hours.

I still think that the cars still wash themselves after each race. One thing I don't understand is that when I do a rally in my Evo, the car is magically clean when I get to the garage or when I go to a different track  ... It seems that car wash is pointless again.

Nope, all cars aren't clean themselves during rally or drive around other tracks for a lot of Miles/Km to show dirt like some of my cars already have white dirt stay.
Edit: Btw, I say you need to do a lot of laps in rally course to get whole dirt on your Evo like I did on some of my cars before.

Can anyone get any comparison images for us to see? Buy a car new, take a picture as soon as you get it then do lots of driving with it until it gets dirty and take another picture so we can see how much of a difference the car wash can actually make.

If you find a way of enabling full damage in all game modes, be sure to let me know! :p

Nope, only in online mode for the moment :)

Wait, wait, before we get out of the subject of car wash... Was it ever useful?
In Gran Turismo 2 I remember fun banjo music, and my car would spin extremely fast, it also seemed to make my car ever so slightly shinier, in 3 & 4 I hardly ever used it other than as thanks to my car for serving me well throughout a race and don't think it had much of an effect, in 5 you got an animation where the mysterious Men in Yellow came and covered it in shampoo.
But no car in my GT garage over the last 14 years has ever been 'dirty' as far as I could tell. Perhaps that could be a GT8 feature, where every venture off road would leave a suitable dirty spot on you car and you can wipe it off with a player-controlled chamois.

This is my LCC Rocket got white dirt from drive a lot of laps or races before car wash.

You did notice the car did got shiny from wash?
