Has Anyone Noticed That There's No Damage In GT6?

How about the old TOCA game as a benchmark. You could end up driving around with your bumpers hanging off. Or the WRC series recently has a lot more realistic damage compared to GT6. And how come I can't smash a mirror off in any GT game.... I want to give my car that sleek look.

I kinda liked how damage was in NFS Porsche.
If you were reckless enough the car would not steer properly and the engine misfired.
Never seen anything like it since.

Noticed the missing visual damage pretty early in the game...
But to be honest, I prefer that "dusty looking" texture changes compared to other models like "part fell off - black texture there".

Guess that's what PD would've made - or that's the only thing they actually can make on about 1000 cars, just because of missing interiors...

anyone know of rally cars can still lose doors and such?

I was thinking the exact same thing, haven't tested it yet. I remember that in GT5 there was different kinds of damage for different kinds cars, & rally cars could be damaged much more than other cars.

No losing parts, no deforming, just scratches. No matter which car.

So another good thing they took away from GT5, Also i noticed that when you smash into a wall the air bags dont activate!

well here is proof of actual body damage...

Its hard to deny that this car has dents!

Find an angle to take a shot that shows that there's actual polygonal deformation.

All that *could* be done with fancy textures, which is sort of the point of this thread. Given how beat up that car is, I find it odd that every visible edge on it is still factory straight.

@Chameleon9000 - What Imari said. Your pic looks great by the way, really shows off the new damage effect fully. However, it's just an effect using clever shading & reflection mapping, there's no actual body deformation.

There is damage on premiums but it takes a while for the deformation. Not sure if there is damage on standards. Something is better than nothing.

EDIT: This picture shows the roof BEFORE the car rolled over.

EDIT: This is AFTER the car rolled over. Clearly visible damage.

Hood and front clearly have visible damage and deformation.

Roof and rear quarter panel are clearly damaged and distorted.

I asked that in a post on page 1.

Slightly off topic but it relates a bit:

Do the WRC cars that were in GT5 (Focus, Citroen, etc.) still have the great damage modeling with stuff like doors popping off, trunks opening?
I haven't seen it at all and I took some of them for pretty wild rides off track at Willow Springs - before 1.04 that is.

So the answer is no. It's gone.

You can still see that the roof is flat, with no damage...

Edit- was sitting around doing nothing and had a thought... The R8 is the only car that I've seen actual damage for. As in, the bumpers hang low or what not. I still belive that there are no possible ways to recieve dents in GT, otherwise this sort of discussion would never be happening..

Can I see a pic of that damage?

You're going to resize the letter Z?

Wait what? Did you look actually look at the other pics?? They are sure as heck NOT flat. The first pic is BEFORE I rolled the car over. The first pic was to show front damage. The 2nd 3rd and 4th clearly show visible roof damage.

If you don't call this roof damage then you are straight up blind or just being stubborn. This is after the car rolled. Also, this was after rolling the car over 1 time.

Exactly. There IS INDEED damage in GT6. The title of this thread is incorrect.

The question is whether the polygons actually deform or if it is just a texture giving you the optical illusion of deformation. The edges of the roof seem all perfectly fine and aligned with the door and roof.

The polygons are definitely deformed. You can tell by the way it is reflecting the light. If you raise and lower your point of view in the camera angle, you can see the dips where the car is dented in. Go try it yourself. Grab the GTR, roll it over, and move the camera at different angles, its dented in for sure.

Granted the parts are not falling off the car, door jams are not buckling, frame is not snapping, but there clearly is visible damage in GT6. Some more than others. Some less than others. I would guess standards take no damage but I am not sure. Premiums seem to take more damage.

NASCAR cars hoods deform. I do t have a pic, but I hit the wall and went in cockpit mode and the hood was poking out in front of my view. There's indeed damage.

They are not dented at all...

If you look at the crest of the roof, you can see the "damage", but it's a mere illusion..
image.jpg

Now look that the crest of the roof on this other picture of yours... It's a solid line across, without any indentations present..
image.jpg

It can also be seen here..
image.jpg

It is a perfectly flat (slight bulge upwards but all cars have this present) line across.... You are referring to the illusion, which cannot be seen truly, because the crest is constantly flat..

If you couldn't tell from my 16 hour long absence.... Then yes.

A polygon does not have to be out of place to represent a deformation of the body panel. Anyone with a paint application or that can use a java scripted application where you can "drag" the image will present the same effect as such...

There is obviously no such actual deformation of my body, but an illusion appearing as if there were. All the game is simply doing is taking in the reflected light, and distorting it on a pre-determined polygon map where the body panel appears to be crumpled. Then, you have light shading effects which is why sometimes the car turns into a grey like effect, where it "fills in" the pre-determined mapping...

It's a mind trick, and people still fall for it..

Warping is deformation... The hood was in front of the windshield...

So the car rolled and no broken glass cool, the roof is deformed and yet not out of line , look at the door shuts and the screen line all are straight , its cleaver but not damage.

Anyone tried the tuner cars? They have a more detailed damage model.

Unfortunately, this effect can be generated more easily with clever use of textures than with actual deformation. All it takes is changing the value for the angle at which light reflects.

It's clever and a decent way of representing that something has happened to the car with a bare minimum of resources. But it is not polygonal damage as seen in GT5 (and a number of other games). It is a step backwards for the series.

Uhhhhhhh.... Never did I say warping.... Metal is warped in extreme heats or cold, but contact does not induce warping. That is a term misused, but it is a deformation. And I'm pretty sure a person from Mongolia could tell me that a hood is in front of the windshield..

The hoods damage raised it in front of the windshield, it crumpled.
