Has damage been increased?

And you know what PD? If GT6 doesn't have full on damage then I'm really not interested in buying it. GT5 is great as it is, despite the lack of crash realism, but it would have to be something completely awesome to make me shell out another 60 bucks for the next one.
Gran Turismo: The Real Driving Simulator
Gran Turismo: The Real Crashing Simulator

Sorry to disappoint, but the second one doesn't exist. Perhaps try games like FlatOut/Burnout etc if you want damage, as those cars are made to crash.

Funny thing is, i hardly see damage on cars when racing in GT5. Probably because i try to race cleanly.

No matter what game developers do, people are never happy. 👎
Bring back the days when there were no updates to games as they weren't online capable, then people wouldn't whine about game updates when they were not what they were wanting.

This is a good point, I only really see damage when I try to make it happen... HOWEVER, there are times when things do go wrong and, I think, the punishment needs to be higher when it does happen. I think this is why people want better damage.

Not being funny, I was all in favour of some sort of "repair cost" in GT5 so if you raced cleanly, you got the full prize money, if you damaged your car enough you have to pay for repairs.

Yeah, like on Forza. It could encourage some people to race cleaner.

It's funny I was thinking that the damage had went up in detail (even on standard cars). I had the 1970 Skyline with a busted headlight after being pitted into a wall online on NĂĽr 24hr time/weather.

Exactly. If there were consequences we all will be driving better.
Realistic tire wear = proper cornering, braking, overall "tire care"
Good damage = clean driving, clean overtaking, overall fear of crashing (can change driving, especially on last lap)
Damage with following repairing = ^^^ x 3.

I mean they need at least to make it optional in A-Spec races.

I think damage in Gran Turismo is a good idea. It is a racing simulator and in racing , damage happens. Just needs more support such as paying for damage repair after races , or having to scrap a car because its too damaged etc...

Damage won't be great until the bumpers can fall off every car. I really don't understand why PD didn't do that... Cars just seem like blocks of metal.

It is also a license thing, yeah I know Forza has falling pieces, but in overall all cars tends to have "same" damage and tail lights does break like are made from wineglass.
Maybe it has something to do about the possble junk all over the track, could the PS3 count all those while having 16 cars on track, with rain and time changing, something they must have dropped I guess.
I still dont have the dang "fallin part" trophy, I tend to drive maybe too clean hehe
105 000+ KM's driven so far

To be fair, in a car simulator what's important are crash consequences, such as mechanical damage, collision dynamics (the physics involved), etc. but unfortunately GT5 isn't great on that aspect either (especially when cars get airborne, on rollovers, etc).

True but visual damage can have consequences too, I remember crashing my Premium Corvette ZR1 on La Sarthe head on into the barrier at an incredible speed some time (and several updates) ago and the bonnet was crumpled in a way that it blocked a large part of the windscreen when in cockpit view which I thought was great and slightly annoying at the same time (mainly enjoyed seeing that visual damage had an effect on gameplay though).
I've played the original Dirt videogame where cracks in the windscreen seriously ruined the visibility (again in cockpit view).
And online it provides info on whether your opponents have crashed or used the walls to steer for example, or to show they currently suffer mechanical damage as well depending on damage settings ofcourse.

On a Dl'd jump track, Wings Of The Red Dragon, one tap against a TVR pushed my Chromeline Murcielago's bumper in. And I re configured my Audi R8 race car :ouch:

I can't get this kind of damage. I'm offline in practice trying multiple cars and the damage is just as how it's been since real ease for me.

It's not a licensing issue to do proper damage on racing cars as almost all, or all racing games have better damage than GT5. Fine, reduce the damage on normal road cars, but have proper damage on race cars!

I find that it depends on the car. Some cars have quite impressive deformation. But others barely get a dent (SLS is almost indestructable).

The sound of metal crunching would be an awesome addition, but anyway it does seem like they have double or tripled the sensitivity of visual damage

I drove the Subaru rally car premium on Eiger last night and for 20 minutes all I did was get up to 5th gear and crash head on over and over. Both doors finally fell off hood stayed on both bumpers just came loose. Been this way since the beginning. Never got the trophy either. In practice mode.

So no damage still poor!

Yeah, the level of damage is definitely a licencing thing. There's some cars that you can really mess up and some that get the random "scratch marks" on the paint.

Speculation
I can also say PD just didn't do the full job on all cars.

Took about three rolls.

I thought only the 3 premium rally cars have the damage ability of the hood opening up.

It seems that the rally cars are most sensitive to damage. With increased damage I imagine there will be a few more cars with the full damage.
Btw: there are 4 premium rally cars.

Haven't noticed any change just guess I don't see the point in tearin up my car which only translates to poor driving habits...

Play Burnout if you wanna crash an burn

I'm messing around with the damage again and, while it is more intense, it's also showing up very major issues. Where as before the cars would deform and parts would come loose, you could never see "into" the car, with this I can see right through cars and it shows where the modelling ends... basically, I think there's two tiers of premiums as well here, ones that will have a full engine modelled and ones that, for all intents and purposes, are hollow. The "fully modelled" premiums may eventually get upgraded to have parts falling off, since there's something behind it, but I'd say the majority won't because there's no "car".

Standard, premium, super-premium.
