Has damage been increased?

That makes me think of the picture of the underside of that one car that was a picture of a diecast model. AutoArt I believe.

Found it.

Lol @ the 1 sided wheel and the absence of an axle. PS1 games where like that haha. Not to mention the Autoart bottom.

No it's not all licensing, PD just doesn't know how to do it.

It's not that they don't know how but what the PS3 can handle and what PD's priority is. Seems Kaz already mentioned it a long time ago that the PS3 has some memory issues too. So the update probably fixed some minor memory issues to handle a little bit more damage. But with all the other features available in the game it really is not that easy to implement all that we want out of the game. Maybe when PS4 comes out then we will see more but will still have something to complain about. :dopey:

I do hear what your saying but, I still think they don't know how to do it. I mean cars that melt when they are damaged? GT5 is the only game that does that. At least in other games their cars body panels come off and glass breaks. So just speaking about damage, GT5 has the poorest damage model in any game to date. IMHO.

When someone showed this to Kaz during development he should have cut it from the game.

Would it have upset fans? Probably, but that could have been more time to do other stuff. And I would much rather have no damage if I would have known it would have turned out like this.

There is always room for optimization.

I'm in two minds about it. The game needed a damage model of some sort because it's no longer acceptable for racing games to lack it, but I also don't think too much time was spent on it, which I am happy about, but it has led to the current situation.

The GT-R is, by far, the worst offender for the melting cars, it does literally just melt into its self, exhausts and all.

This is an excuse for poor programming. Sony has stated many times that no game to date has come close to using the ps3's full potential. It's obvious that pd has very inefficient programing because they have some of the longest loading screens out there (not complaining). They are obviously making some serious code changes to try to use the ps3 more effectively. So don't blame Sony or talk about the ps4, the good ol' ps3 has plenty of juice left in it.👍

Impreza Sedan WRX STI '10 doesn't just have blackness behind the bumper. It does look "full" and the modelling on the bottom is also pretty good, also the hood lifts after enough damage.

I'm definitely thinking "three tiers" in GT5 for cars, not the two as advertised, not when it comes to underside modelling and damage anyway.

They don't know how make a visual damage. And it will not require more processing power than now. PD just always want to make anything looks like real so real visual damage require much more hard work than they've spend right now.

They've done a awesome work to make this game look like no other. Lightning, shadows, cockpit. With GT5P they just change the world of racing games - forcing other games to make believable cockpit with shadows playing on it...It's brilliant (in most cases) visual simulator. Next they've done brilliant smoke system that looks like real - that thing will become must-have for all other racing games, they will need to follow. Also visual part of day/night/weather changes is awesome. All future games will replicate it. It's not like fancy effects - but it's something you believe in. Now I dream about ultimate damage model that set a bar in racing games. And I believe they can do it!

They are perfect programmers, GTP5 has fastest loading screens. But you don't need to be messiah to understand that something go wrong with GT5, it's very unlucky game. They've put all their efforts not in GT5 but in whole GT technology. Game-wize it's worse than any other GT. It's just bizarre, that make's you feel that you've playing alpha version. But I'm not complaining at all. I know they worked hard to develop their GT platform. So I just wait for GT6 before I will make any serious conclusions. To me GT5 is not a showcase of all what they've done. It's like demo of the whole GT platform.

poor programming? not really. 16 cars at 1280x1080p at 60fps. GT is pushing the ps3 at it's limits.

Let me rephrase that. I don't think pd thought on how to make the game use the ps3 efficiently. I think they just figured the ps3 could handle whatever they threw at it and when they found out even the ps3 has limits they were too late in development to properly address all the issues, hence the delays and "incomplete features". Just look. At how much frame rate drop has improved with recent updates. If the ps3 was being pushed to it's limits this would not be possible at all.

I got the hood to open on the High end performance Infiniti. Did not get the same front end damage. Spoiler on mine looks about the same as pic a few pages over. I got big dent on rear bumper. Hood opens though. Did not think that it would but it did. Saved replay too. Although I am level 40 Aspec and Bspec. Doubt that has anything to do about the damage...

PS3 has very high peak power but constancy (due bandwidth limitations) isn't great (like it were on PS2 for example) so I think they striving at it. Look yourself - even with 2 cars on track (or even one) game not run perfectly at 60fps and with adding more cars on track performance don't fall linearly. It's not even vary much if there only standard cars. I don't know even drop of AA will help or not. Other developers lock their games on 30fps to hide it. Someone (like in GOW3) they unlock the frame-rate and it's varying very much.

The damage has been improved I Was driving my 370Z hit he wall hard my front bumper was hanging off and the whole right was black. I also like how the bumper moves during driving. You can also hear the motor struggle, If PD keeps polishing things up we are in good hands.

See if you can get a close up shot of the engine!

I think the mechanical damage is awesome!

I definitely think it's worth making a list of these cars with, potentially, enhanced versions of the damage modelling. I may go through each premium car I have when I get a chance and work from there. Just be interesting to see what non-Rally cars have the potential for parts falling off and such.

Yea, I'm starting to think that there are premium cars that have more damage than others. I can help with the list if anyone's interested in making it.

I'm about to go through all my premium cars now. 103... I haven't really been much of a buyer, but I'm pretty much going to do it sorted by "make" and confirm the bottom of the car modelling and if the hood lifts. If there's anything interesting, I'll get images. Going to use Trial Mountain due to the verge before the finish straight and just, really, ram the hell out of each car for 5-10 minutes.

So, yeah, this is my night... :D

That pic is actually good compared to most of the standard car underneath pictures. Its usually just black with nothing else. Just a big black square.

Is it just me, or are the NASCAR Cup cars' damage modeling contradictory of the real thing? Normally, when bumpdrafting in GT5, the front end will sag down and leave an opening under the hood, as opposed to reality when only the grill opening (07-10 Cup Cars) would be slightly caved in. The rear of the car is the same way in GT5, but the spoiler remains in its position, regardless of the state of damage of the decklid and bumper covering. This isn't really a complaint, due to more realistic interpretations of Cup cars on PS3, but is something to be investigated.

And furthermore, while the spoiler was a great addition, other 2010 additions for NSCS were not included. The decklid fin and the side panels at the bottom of the rear bumper on both sides. Both of these were introduced to keep the car from going airborne on high speed tracks, but mandatory everywhere later in the season. I guess since PD was only taking models of the cars that ran at Richmond, it was likely overlooked since deadlines neared.

Blitz Dunlop ER34 Skyline '07 has undone my theory already... Flat underside but with 3D exhaust - Passenger door opened, even without mechanical damage turned on, this caused the car to veer left. Door detached, hood and boot opening. Engine visible, but seems to be flat texture.

Going to continue, just out of curiosity sake.
