I was thinking the other day about famous people being regular people, and got to thinking about them driving around LA in their Bentleys having overpriced lunch together.

Then I wondered about who had seen a famous person?

So, post up here the stories of famous people you've seen. Do you hang out in Rodeo drive, or Chelsea?

We want A-list celebs here, not provinsional sports team representatives or other imposters. If someone in another country isn't likely to know who the person is... Tom Cruise, Vinnie Jones, Jennifer Lopez. These are the sort of people we want to hear about.

Also, don't just post names of people. Give us a story about what you were doing, what they were doing, the area where you saw them, the weather. Make it interesting.

Go.

let's see here. Having worked in a major electronics/cd/dvd store for a number of years, I have seen a few famous people.

Marilyn Manson - He came to sign autographs at the store and the crowd of people outside waiting for him was so large that they pushed against the glass and broke the windows. The session was stopped short and the cops called.

Robin Williams - He was in town shooting a movie and was let into the store early to do some shopping, or something, I can't remember correctly.

Jessica Alba - She filmed Dark Angel in Vancouver and one day she was in the store purchasing a digital camera. Smokin!

Mats Sundin - You Canadians know who this is.

Garbage - Again, autograph session. We hung around with them in the back of the store beforehand. Really nice folks.

The Proclaimers - In store performance. It was funny, because one of them messed up the chords of a song and then they argued about it in the back afterwards.

Everclear - In store performance. For a 20 minute set they brought in dozens of guitars. Go figure.

Michael J. Fox - Rolled up in his E class mercedes to do some shopping.
There are a few more but the stories are rather boring.

nope, no A listers here.

the closest I've seen is James Best when he stopped by in 01 for our Tom Mix Days (look that one up in Wikipedia)

a few washed up wreslers is about all that's left. from WWF days was Paul Bearer, who used to be manager for WWe's Undertaker character, with that quick shot "psycho prisoner" type that appeared in, I believe, the eighties.

I saw Kiera Knightly in Hyde Park while in London, it pretty much made my trip to England.

Flea who was out walking around outside a hotel in Auburn Hills while on tour in Detroit, I was on the roads crew then and we were doing something by the hotel when he walked passed.

Other then that I saw Jesse James while at the NAIAS this year.

The Proclaimers - In store performance. It was funny, because one of them messed up the chords of a song and then they argued about it in the back afterwards.

I met Hugo Weaving in Sydney. He was being interviewed for Breakfast TV in the UK, and I spoke to him briefly as people were milling about afterwards, and got the obligatory "photo with someone famous" to boot.

I met Verne Troyer when he was at the World of Wheels at the Minnesota Convention Center a few years ago, I believe soon after Goldmember came out on DVD.

I met George Thorogood at a party. I hung around on the periphery of his crowd for a while, and then he played some songs on an old Martin acoustic. Way cool.

I saw McLean Stevenson and his wife at a pub/bistro type thing once. We were hanging out at this place in St. Louis MO, and looked over to see Col. Henry a table or two over. We smiled and waved; he smiled and waved back. We didn't go over to bother him.

So I'm standing in line one day at the airport in Phoenix, Arizona apparently looking at anything but the person standing in front of me. I hear the ticket agent ask for the name of the person in front of me, He replies "Reggie Jackson". BOING...my head springs up and I'll be darn if ‘Mr. October’ is right there larger then life.

First thing I then notice is the arm cannons that the man has. I guess all those home runs didn't happen by accident. He then reaches into his pocket and pulls out the biggest roll of cash that I have ever seen in my life. How could that fat wad be comfortable to have in your pocket I wonder? He pays for his ticket and walks off without me even saying a word. I was young and stupid to not even attempt to shake his hand.

Almost got knocked over by Snoop Dogg at a Lakers game (dude is seriously tall). Also pretty sure I saw Harrison Ford - but he was in his car and it was difficult to be sure.

I lived next door to Bo Jackson for three years in Leawood, Kansas. Basically until 1992, I think. (That's about when he moved to Chicago)

We bought our apartment from Henrik Larsson, so during a while we used to hang out a lot with their parents, with him occaisonally dropping by.

My life was threatened by the band Red Jumpsuit Apparatus for pointing at them in the mall back before they were famous. I went to church with the vocalists little brother too.

Edit: This doesn't count, but when my mom was a kid, she lived down the street from the Van Zant's (of Lynyrd Skynyrd) and also hung out with the band members of 38 Special.

I've seen Will Smith around town a few times back home. He bought his mother a mansion in the more rural area of the township, if you can call it that.

I haz list:

Brent Spiner
Alexander Siddig (Siddig El-Fadil*)
Christopher Judge
Michael Shanks
Jolene Blalock
Lawrence Makoare
John Rhys-Davies
Alan Cumming (this will probably be yoinked by the swear filter)
Danny John-Jules
Chris Barrie
Craig Charles
Robert Llewellyn
Ray Park
Adam West
Mike Tindall
Andrew Cato (of Groove Armada)

There's more, but I forget.

I saw Miroslav Satan in a shop, and Dominik Hasek... whom I met and spoke to. Also spoke once with Doug Flutie, and in NYC I saw Fabien Barthez, walking right by me.

Once, after I jazz concert I went to a bar and there was Pat Metheny... he had played at the concert and then went to this bar. We spoke for about 2 minutes and then he played a bit. And I drove by Mike Oldfield's place once and he was outside... so we chatted a bit... mostly him telling me not to go by again.

I've met Jenson Button. He used to race for the kartteam I used to race for, and I met him during a karting event in Belgium. Had previously spoken to him on the phone after our team chief had called him up congratulating him on a good qualifiying performance. This was in 2005 or 2006.

I've never seen any A-listers. I'm literally scraping the bottle of the barrow with the list below.

Jermain Defoe- Premiership footballer
Hoyt- Premiership footballer
Jermaine Jenas- Premiership footballer
Dwight Yorke- Premiership footballer
Chanelle- Big Brother contestant
Spiral- Some irish rapper who was in Big Brother (I didn't actually recognise him)
Danielle Lloyd- Glamour model
Jodie Marsh - General slaaaag.
Lee Ryan- Member of guy group Blue
Nikki- Big Brother contestant

I also saw Rod Stewart in a restaurant in Epping, Mel Smith from Smith & Jones in Regents Park.

Hmm...

I met Jake Shimabukuro (most known for his stunningly beautiful ukulele version of 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps'!) I briefly met Mike Stern and Eric Johnson at concerts, and I actually played guitar with these guys. Not terribly popular though...

Once, after I jazz concert I went to a bar and there was Pat Metheny... he had played at the concert and then went to this bar. We spoke for about 2 minutes and then he played a bit.

I saw Pat Metheny play, that was the single most expensive concert I've been to... $58...

As a child I met and shook hands with Dale Earnhardt Sr., which is still a pretty memorable experience for me. He was in Grand Rapids doing some promotion for a race he was in (not to mention Berger Chevrolet), and my Dad being a HUGE Earnhardt fan, we had to go. Similarly, my Dad who was formerly a photographer for a NASCAR magazine knew several of the racers on a pretty personal level. I've been to Johnny Benson's house several times, although I haven't seen him in more than a decade. My Dad and Mom were good friends with Rusty Wallace and Mark Martin, but again, its been quite a long time since they've seen them.

On my several trips to Miami I've managed to stumble across some celebrities as well. My most-recent trip (summer 2007) I managed to see (but not meet) Missy Elliot who was driving her modified HUMMER H2 through South Beach. It was a very quick and sudden realization of who it was, but I wasn't that excited. On my way to our hotel on the first day there, we also saw Bow Wow pulled over on Ocean Drive in his Lamborghini. It was funny, but again, I wasn't too excited.

And although this isn't particularly exciting, I have met John McCain who has managed to win the Republican nomination for President in 2008. Hes shorter than you think, and his hands are very rough when you shake them. I've also met the Syrian Ambassador to the United States, Imad Moustapha. He is possibly one of the coolest politicians I've ever met, really down-to-earth, and shockingly honest about whats going on in the world.

When I used to party a lot in Hollywood Id see them all over. I dont get starstruck so at the most Ill give a nod or handshake if I really like them. I dont want to mess with their evening, they are people too. The funny thing is when the snobby people think that just because they are on tv that they demand respect. Thats common. I just look at them like I dont know who they are....sometimes I really dont.

Probably because he averages about 30000 handshakes a day.

Does General Omar N. Bradley count?
My father was his enlisted aide-de-camp when I was a youngster.
His widow was a guest at my wedding.

When I was about 9, my folks and I went to the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles.
The occasion was a benefit dinner for Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, TX.
On the way to the dinner I saw Whitman Mayo ("Grady" from Sanford and Son)driving his "ice green" Porsche 911 on the 405 freeway.

Later at the dinner, I was able to meet Isabelle Sanford(Weezy from The Jeffersons)

My parents put me up to asking if I could take a picture with her. Dad gave me his Polaroid camera for the deed.
Being 9 years old was a big help to my courage. When I asked, she said "Sure, baby!" and pinched my cheek. She then grabbed Whitman Mayo as he was walking by and had him take the snapshot.
I still think it was a pretty cool experience.
My kids think I'm a bit of a nerd.

Just a bunch of famous race car drivers, nobody here would know who they are

Mostly world of outlaw guys
I set up and installed some lettering for Donny Schatz's Sprint Car. He came off as kind of a prick, mostly because I wasn't basking in his glory. To me it was just another sticker on just another car.
There's more, but I forget.
No Mary Steenburgen?

I don't know if this counts, but maybe 6-7 years ago when Weird Al still had his curly hair and big glasses, my dad would occasionally get asked if he was Weird Al because he looked just like him, it was hilarious!

Did you go to a Dwarfers convention?

Sci-Fi in general probably, some of thoes are Star Trek. Maybe Dwafers and Trekkie conventions seperately.

I've actually met George Best while I was shopping in Manchester he was over for a TV interview and he was in the Trafford Centre.

Dave Spikey, again in Manchester, back when he released his stand up DVD he was in certain shops signing autographs and promoting himself.

The Hoff, he came into work when I worked at Pipex, he stank. He completely bblanked one of my workmates, a little asian girl who was stood up at the bottom of the office waving at him. She didn't realise he wasn't looking at her, he was looking at the Pipex poster with his picture on it on the wall above and behind her.

David Beckham, I've met him a couple of times in Manchester.

John Thompson the actor and comedian used to live round the corner form me, though he's not A-list.

I can't think of any others. I've seen others but these are the ones you may have heared of who I've met and chatted to. I used to talk to John Thompson a bit, I saw him most days though.
