I want to get an HD TV so I can play my PS3 in this new fandangled technology, however, can I get one which will also double up as a HD Monitor so I can use it for racing sims, etc on my PC?

Will I need some kind of converter?

I'm not exactly sure what options you have for monitors over yonder, but on my TV I've got HDMI for the PS3 and an HD15 to connect a computer.

Edit: Looks like this one, for example, has a PC input listed in its specs. The one thing you'll need to keep in mind is the output resolution from your video card and the input to the TV get along. My old tower had a crappy card so the only resolution that worked was 800X600. Needless to say I didn't like that very much. My laptop, on the other hand, works great.

You wont need a converter, you will be buying a more expensive TV, though. You'll be getting a great PC monitor though.

When I install a TV in my kit/dining/bar area, that's what I'm going with. I'll have a small PC tucked out of sight, that I can access the web, plus catch the News in the morning.

I believe your card has HDMI outputs or at least comes with a HDMI adapter. All of your 1080P HD TV's will have an HDMI input. It makes for a perfect match for the PC. If you hook up an internal SPDIF cable to the video card, the HDMI cable should also carry the audio signal to the TV as well. Simply run a single HDMI cable from your PC to your TV and you're done. Should fit like a glove. If you have any doubts, talk with the store manager to arrange a time that you can bring your computer into the store to hook it up to the TV that you're looking at to be assured that it will work for your needs. Most managers should be willing to help if they are given some notice ahead of time.

As DA also stated, a lot of TV's also have a PC input. Be aware that these inputs are often limited to a 1280x1024 resolution.

I believe it does.

I believe this is what's in the new PC, urm, that sounds good doesn't it? Way too many numbers going through my head of late to remember what it is. I remember saying they thought it was overkill for my system though. (2.4Ghz Duo-core, 2GB DDR2, spare slot available). Hmm, that review isn't all that great. I do want to do HD gaming. Seems I can get an identical stick of ram for only £14...Next weekend is my "PC fixer-upper" weekend, may even put Windows 7 on her.

Ahhh, for some reason I thought you had a GTX295 card. You can still use a DVI to HDMI adapter although there is no way for that card to carry the audio signal so you would need to figure something else out for the audio like your PC speakers or optical out or something.....

Nah, no GTX295 here. Is that all I'd need, is a DVI-HDMI? Okay, that's simple enough. Audio, hmm.

A card with optical out? Or could I work it through an independent sound card rather than the on-board it has atm?

Some of the older HD TV's had DVI inputs but I'm seeing more of the newer ones just having HDMI for the HD signals, so yeah, a DVI to HDMI adapter should do ya.

Not sure what your motherboard supports, as some onboard audio does offer optical out. A seperate sound card could certainly achieve this if your mobo doesn't.

Are you running a seperate audio amp/receiver or do you have plans or are you just going to run TV sound?

Hmm, well with my tv (which has a VGA and 3.5mm audio imput for PC connection), I just have to connect the VGA cable and a 3.5mm audio cable from my laptop to the tv. Though, to get the correct resolution (1366x768) I had to mess with the settings in Nvidia Control Panel, otherwise it would default to 800x600.

I've actually been having a ton of problems with my sound on my PC for ages, never been solved, I'm not sure if it's Software or Hardware.

Though to answer your question, I'd like to just hook up the speakers Dolby 5:1, already set-up in the back-room where the PC is, the surround sound is perfect when it works. The sub just connects via 3.5mm jacks to the mobo sound card. Sound is one of the areas I struggle with the most, need to get some research done on it.

My mobo specs according to the manual:

ConRoe1333-D667
Audio:
7.1CH Windows Vista Premium Level HD Audio (ALC868 Audio Codec)
Rear Panel I/O
HD Audio Jack Side Speaker/Rear Speaker/Central/Bass/Line in/Front Speaker/Microphone

I have a HDMR slot, apparently...High Definition Media Recorder?

Found this, good price. Decent reviews, from which I presume it can work with a PC?
