HD VERSION

i didnt really want the over the top look more trying to just give that bit of "oomph"

i used -2, -1, 0, +1, +2 images

used photomatix, i tried the free software picturenaught but it just didn't really do a good job of making it look like a HDR photo, it basically looked the same as the original.

with photomatix i could get that "pop" that i was after with this photo.

let me know what you think, i have a few more i will post up later.

thanks, you just use the masking deal? cuz if you look at the top of the tower is supposed to be a circle window and it masked in more arches. just am observation.

He used content-aware, but it's a little too random for something as specific as that... the patch tool would have been more accurate.

Sooo I can see HDR photos look nice.. But.. What is HDR and how does it work?

High Dynamic range, essentially you take the same picture multiple times (generally 3) each exposed differently. So on dark one (to get detail in bright things such as clouds) one normal and one light one (to get details in dark places such as shadows). Then you combine them to create a picture that is exposed correctly across the picture.

Oh! Thanks :)

I haven't been back to this thread in awhile, so it's been a pleasant surprise to see some of the truly gorgeous images that have been posted.

gtone339 - post #126. That Peugeot just pops.

Sl1mS4di3 - post #140. Not easy to get a great B&W HDR shot, but you pulled it off here.

xMARKITOx - post #141. Very subtle HDR effect - a little added noise and vignette and the photo looks practically real.

breezy - post #157. Both of these are great shots. Love the orange rims on that VW, and the sky just rocks. Nurburgring? The LFA is a knockout - great angle. (Looks like the clouds moved between your exposures, though - HDR can be tricky like that.)

pixeljunkynz - post #158. Very realistic looking shots... no overdone HDR. Gorgeous on all three.

Moglet - post #165. I really like the subtle effect here - combined with a nice angle, and you've got a winner.

Here's my next contribution to the thread - I just posted it in my gallery, but I got my start here doing HDRs, so it belongs here too. :)

heres a shot i pulled off drunk on boxing day lol woke up and saw it on my pc screen and was like, COOOL not bad for a drunk!

was excited about getting my X1 so i took it for a spin on special stage 7 lol.

also love your work sixtoes i aspire to even be half as good someday and id die a happy man!

you have the same sort of philosophy as me in gt5, i basically only play nowadays to get more cars to shoot!

i probally spend a good 4-5hrs a day just taking shots in gt5 lol

any chance you can critique my ferrari shot taking into account it was my first try,

would love some input.

so far im just using the standalone photomatix pro 4.02 since i dont have photoshop yet and just messing with the tone mapping options in there.

simply gorgeous!!

Thanks, fission - been working with HDR for awhile now, and it's always a fresh challenge. :)

Thanks, ragnar; let's hope you don't have to die a happy man anytime soon, ok? :)

I don't want to take much room in this thread to do a critique, but send me a PM and I'll get to it tomorrow or Tue. Always willing to help. (First advice, use Photomatix whilst sober. 💡)

possibly the best image in here!

Well, that's extremely high praise, Sohail - not sure I can fully agree, but I certainly appreciate the compliment!

I think we can all agree this is the best looking photo in this thread… a perfect example of what HDR offers. It's gorgeous.

I agree in that is perhaps the best looking picture in the thread, but its dynamic range is not very wide... there are some parts of the photo that are pitch black (tires, front grid). But great photo anyway!

My first HDR.

nice, looks like an alien race car,

heres my attempt, some of it was done in photomatrix, and then i added a few layers myself using cs5 and erased certain parts to show layers underneath,
i did this because it was my 3rd or 4th attempt at hdr after i tried it in cs5 which i didnt like, feedback welcome,

heres the full resolution

the car is parked btw before anyone says theres no sense of speed, i stopped to admire the view, the car was way to dark with decent exposure of the car and vice versa
