I've done some photojoiners in real life and in GT5 before, what else have you guys done to your piccies? I'm confused as to what constitutes HDR, or what it is for that matter :P

HDR, or High Dynamic Range is taking multiple pictures, of the same thing at different exposures, to reveal things in shadows and highlights. Then using Photomatix or Topaz or something of the sort, you process them to make a stylized picture that shows alot of the detail, that we see, but the camera's can't. It can range from natural looking to as we see it, or gritty and sharp to look like a painting almost.

There's a fine line between a good HDR shot and going overboard with the exposure/contract/saturation. A few of the pictures in here are pushing their luck but then HDR is like that, some images just don't take to it very well.

Way overdone and Over Saturated.

There's also a fine line between tastes.. some people like the borderline ridiculous looking HDR, other like the subtle..

here's another version i did

Well yeah, taste comes into it, but there are widely accepted limitations to everything. You wouldn't find an MS Paint scribble in a national art gallery and HDR shots that look more like a slapped-on Photoshop filter aren't gonna be received as well as others...

That one's good though. As I said before some shots don't take well to HDR, and that one would have been better with more reflections on the body of the car to reduce the flatness of the colour.

My first try with HDR photos,

HDR2b.jpg

Bending the rear wing on my Lamborghini.

HDR3b.jpg

I was in the RUF and was sideways like this for a good 5secs, but managed to miss the Nissan and the wall.

HDR4b.jpg

Backfire from my Lamborghini.

I think those are a bit too overdone, the first photo have some pretty weird discoloration.

excuse me, did i order an internet argument???

Who said anything about an argument? It seems you just don't respond well to criticism. Go ahead washing out your images rather than actually giving them a high dynamic range, I don't care.

Anyway back on topic... sort of... does anyone know why the Merge to HDR Pro option in CS5 isn't working for me? All I get is this:

It seems to think both the normal and low exposure shots are the same judging by the way both say "EV 0.00" at the bottom.

Inspired by this thread these are my first attempts at HDR in GT5. I think they're pretty subtle but I'd be glad to hear your opinions.

I use Photomatix Pro for HDR in photographic RAW's and it seems to work pretty well here too. Only thing I found was that HDR seems to not like the exhaust flame too much. It tends to create a weird effect which I don't like. Removing it isn't too easy.

great shots!! I agree about the flames, I was having the same problem, and didnt feel like taking the time to remove it
