My old Compaq Persario Monitor Did 1080i without a Hitch, so you shouldnt have to worry about that.

But a vast majority (especially ps2 games) run 480i as does the Boot Screen, so you need to do some research and make sure your monitor will do 480i without any problems, that should be your major concern You should look at the support forums for your monitor to see if it works alright

sorry stupid question again. isnt 480i a lower detail than 1080i? then why wouldnt my monitor support that if it supports 1080i?

Well It depends if your Monitor can go up to 1980x1080 (something like that) thats the resolution for 1080i, Most LCD's (like mine) cant go up that high but almost ALL CRT's Can.

no as i said before my monitor can only go up to 1400x1050

ps- "~Gran Turismo 4 The History of the Automobile as seen through Nissan."
thats funny :dopey:

lol thanks :)

Sorry you probably wont be able to do 1080i :(

But you'll be able to do 480p (which GT4 supports) and 720p (GT4 doesnt support it :( )

either way you'll get a great image, the converter is 75 bucks I think, and Component Cables run about 15-40 bucks

But the most important thing you need to find out is if you can do 480i on your monitor, If not any other game that doesnt support HDTV will come up Garbled and Unreadable that right now should probably be your main Concern You might have to do some research on it, Try Google and see what you can find.

If it supports 480i then you should be good to go good luck! if you need any more help Come back here and I'll answer you in the morning :)

My TV is HD ready and its def worth getting the component cables but Id make sure if u dont have surround that u get the component cables with the regular audio. Because monster game sells 2 different versions 1 with audio 1 without.

what id like to see is the difference between 480i and 480p, comparison screenshots of the exact same or close images.

Will the VGA transcoder from http://www.vdigi.com let me use my Samsung 712N with my PS2 to play Gran Turismo 4. I have the new slim PStwo if that matters. These are the specs for my monitor:

http://product.samsung.com/cgi-bin/nabc/product/b2c_product_detail.jsp?eUser=&prod_id=MJ17ASSBY&selT ab=Specifications

On my display properties in windows, I can use these resolutions:

1280 by 1024
1280 by 960
1280 by 768
1152 by 864
1024 by 768
800 by 600

*I posted this on the http://www.vdigi.com forums also.*

theres no doubt that it will work Dan7u, but the real problem lies in the fact of it being able to do 480i or not. and You WILL NOT be able to do 1080i Sorry :( I'm in the same boat with that.

480i is standard (if Im getting this wrong someone please correct me!) so if you pop up A game that doesnt support Any High def signal like 480p 720p then your screen will display either nothing or a really messed up image.

Luckily my Xerox has no problem doing 480i, So I can play any game on my Monitor without a problem. But only A small number of LCDs can do it so I'm not 100% sure that yours can. Try Googling it and see what you can find out, It'll take alot of looking probably but will help you reach your decision :) And the Vdigi support forum was a good idea they'll probably be able to help you too :)

Wolf, the best way to discribe 480i vs 480p is color, The colors (at least to me) seem more vibrant Whites look whiter, Blacks look blacker. Also Since its in Progressive Scan (meaning instead of 1/2 of the image being displayed in a fraction of a second, and the other 1/2 in another fraction of a second, the Entire Image is displayed in a fraction of a second) it also looks a WHOLE LOT clearer, and since most Xbox and Gamecube games support it You can make full use of 480p.

Side note:
HDTVarcade.com is the best site to go for to see what games can do HDTV and what games cant. MOST PS2 games dont do 480p, but almost all Gamecube games do, as well as almost all Xbox games But since Xbox is a bit more of a powerful system it also has a few games that can do 720p and 1080i.

So if your doing this JUST for your PS2 it may not be such a good idea just because there are so few games that support it, but if you have an Xbox and Gamecube you'd like to try it out on its worthwhile :)

but remember these fine steps!
1) Make sure Your monitor can do 480i!!
If not then it could be kind of a bad situation to be in, Since most games (ESPECIALLY ps2 games) dont support HD then You'll get messed up images and wont be able to play them on your Monitor.

2) If you want to do 1080i make sure your monitor can go that high!
1080i Requires a Resolution of 1920x1080 if you want to go that route make sure your monitor supports that resolution! (almost every CRT Does though even if it doesnt show it, My 6 year old Compaq runs it fine)

3) Use HDTVArcade.com To find out what games support HD!
It's a very helpful site to see if that game your looking at purchasing supports HDTV or not.

4) And Finally If you need help dont be afraid to ask!
If you cant find an Answer here, Try Tech support forums! they are out there and can definatly help :) (sorry dont know of any though) I dont want to see anyone spend 75 bucks and find out that they can't run 1080i on their monitor or that 480i isnt working so remember research is important!

Sometimes you wont be able to find the answer though, So you may be forced to take the "plunge" to see if you can run 480i on your monitor, Its something I had to do, I'm very happy and very lucky, But I cant guarontee everyone will have good endings like mine, It helps to have Multiple Monitors laying around also :)

Good luck! we're here for you! :)

Heres a good site to give a very simple rundown of how it works:
http://www.voom.com/newsletter/aug_resource2.shtml

Would I need 480i support on my monitor if I'm only going to be playing GT4? If I don't have 480i support on my monitor, then I won't be able to play GT3 on it, right?

correct Dan7u, 480i is the standard signal, games that dont run in HDTV run in 480i, so if your monitor doesnt support it, you could be in trouble.

And remember, you still have to navigate to the screen to change 480i to its supported HDTV mode, so until you can switch the game over to HDTV you'll run in 480i. So remember, research is key :) but if you have the money and want to take the risk, You can take the plunge.

But the downside to that is that everytime you want to play a non HDTV game you'd have to switch to a TV or something :(

Okay, that means I would need 480i support. Hopefully I can find someone that has tried this on the same monitor. If not, I might just buy it to try it seeing as how I have 3 other CRT monitors I can try it on if it doesn't work on my Samsung 712N.

http://www.1-877camcorder.com/hlp4663w.html

Is that it? Well, You'd need the Componant cables for the PS2 (or whatever system you're running) and you should be set to go, I have no idea what this means though:

"All Format Conversion to 720P Resolution"

I dont know if that means that everything is turned into 720p or what, But do your research, but from my end it looks like all you need is the componant cables for whatever system you want to use and your good to go. (if thats the TV your using)

I have the 42 inch, but that is the T.V. I tried to play GT3 with the componet cable and the picture quality was not that good. I'll see when GT4 comes out in the states.

Hey guys! Ok, ive found out that my video card has S-video. What can i do with this? Can i buy component cables so i can display my PS2 on the computer monitor? If not, what CAN i do with it? Please advise, thanks in advance.

Hmm Probably Alot like my 9800 Pro Which means that its S-VIDEO out, so you can plug it in to your TV and use that as your Computer Monitor

So most likely and Output rather than Input

Oh yeah!

I got my Gamecube Component cables today, And GOOD GOD 480P On a CRT Is nite ^^;

Windwaker Looks like a completely differant game (at least I think so)

Sorry Bud, the VD-Z3 is still kickin great for me though, This LCD Makes games rather Blurry Sometimes though.

Sooo Im not going to reccomend it for LCD's, CRT's though

wow this is a technical thread. I'm gonna see in the manual of my TV how much I have.

Can you already explain what the difference is between 480i and 480p (p means progressive scan ???) What does that number mean?
I seen the pictures where you can see the difference between 480p and 1080i. Nice difference.
