Very much appreciated, thanks for the response ChristmasGTO 👍
I guess I'll just have to test out the whole refresh rate thing myself, and only if it gets annoying, I'll go back home and bum out on GT4... when it finally comes out

Hey, I didn't know GT4 really supported 1080i, thats amazing! I have my PS2 hooked up to a Samsung 30" HDTV (similar to Gabkicks). I didn't realize that i had to go into the options to change the setting. Once I selected 1080i and started a race, it looked great!. In all honesty though, I think 480P might be better just because when it is 1080i it looks too much like a PC game. I like a softer look. Either way though, it works great.

I'm using the vdigi to play GT4 and my monitor doesnt support 480i, so everytime i'm about to race i have to switch to the component cable. I wished the menu supported 480p/1080i. If you just want s-video, i recommend the leadtek winfast tv tuner. You can grab it from newegg for about 50 bucks. It is very good quality for a tv tuner under $200.

Your ahead of me because i dont even have gt4 :dopey: , and I just got my HDTV a few days ago so i only understand about 1% of the features on it. I'll figure it out though.

:EDIT: whoops, i forgot to ask if you get any slowdown with 1080i :EDIT:

If I set 1080i in GT4, will the screen become 16:9? I'm asking because I have an HDTV Sony but it's 4:3 ratio... I don't want to play GT4 in widescreen with black bars...

GT4 seems to run like butter even in 1080i for me. I don't notice any lost frames. Also , I belive that for it to be at 1080i it would have to be widescreen 16x9 aspect ratio.

HD options for me...
friend 1: 65" HDTV, 55 mile drive :yuck:
friend 2: 50" LCD screen, 3 mile drive (good, but way less satisfying than 65)

No comments on the frames per second at 1080i? I just can't imagine the PS2 being able to run at 1080i and keeping the game at 60 fps.. what's the verdict?

MMkkk... this thread is long and confusing. A few things I need cleared up (probably very basic)

I need a VGA thingy to play on my computer, right? What's the highest TV res you can run on 1280x1024? 1600x1200?

I've got an HD projector (110" screen), would it be better to hook up my computer and then the PS2 to the computer (at 1600x1200) or just the PS2 straight into the projector?

I got an Epson LCD Projector(beamer) it supports 1080I and 525p, Xbox games look incredible with progressive scan, and so do Jak II and Primal on PS2,even though GT3 is not progressive scan, still looks damn nice on my Epson, .it's just a matter of , if the PAL (european) version of GT4 also supports progressive scan, is here anyone here who knows about it?

I have a 17" NPS LCD monitor with DVI input, which I use for my PC. Is there any way I can put my PS2 and GT4 through this?

GT3 looks like asshole-casserole on my 53" Panasonic HDTV.. if it supported 480P/525P then it'd probably look much better.. but at 480i, it looks horrible.

I hope 1080i on GT4 doesn't slow the FPS down too much.. 30 fps is kind of slow for my eyes.

NO WAY!!! unless your superman.!!! what i mean is never going below 30fps. if a game never goes below 30fps ever, you cant tell the difference between 30fps and 120fps

Hahahaha @ asshole casserole! Totally original! I totally agree with you, I just bought a 55" mitsu for GT4. GT3 looks awful.
However, all my xbox games look incredible.

Especially considering consoles have to convert to use PASSES per Second (interlaced) and not Frames Per second (progressive) if you want to get technical for use on televisions. This is course is when speaking terms of INTERLACED output (which most people will be using). Now when you get your console to display in progressive, you're now in monitor mode using a real frames per second. I can't agree that people say you can't see anything past 30 FPS.. it looks choppy to me in comparison to something 60 fps.. HOWEVER, you will get used to playing any 30 fps game and not feel like you have to complain about smoothness... you will always get used to it, it's not really a big deal.. I was only curious to know if the FPS was lowered when playing at 1080i.
