I noticed the other day while flying through the carousel that I crank my head really far to the left when going through it...anybody else have any silly habits they do and have realized it recently?

hahaha yup finally someone else that leans! that's so funny

I noticed the other day that when you are next to another, your "driver" inside will actually turn his head and look at the other car...even in motion. It's nuts lol

Like this.

I can't say I lean. Tho I did try to one-hand the wheel at Nurburgring today while grabbing for some ritz crackers. It didn't quite work out at over 100 mph...

If i'm coming wide out of a turn and headed for a wall, My body clinches and I brace myself for Impact :(

I then laugh at myself for noticing what i do

I was leaning back and forth like I was in the choir trying to get a gold on the Toyota FT-86 Slalom license test. Didn't even notice I was doing it until my girl walked in and asked what I was doing. Maybe it worked though, got gold on it earning my last gold in the license tests.

I did a paper a few years ago for college on human responses to stimuli and perceived dangers, weather real or imagined.

Interestingly enough, the brain actually forces the movement of the body to mimic what should IRL happen to the forces impacted on the body. This reaction was actually coined the Vukovic factor after a not so famous psychologist from the former Yugoslavia named Bratislav Vukovic who was working and doing studies in human psychology for the dictator at the time, Tito.

Vukovic was performing experiments on soldiers to try and understand the mental reactions of soldiers during war time and try and understand why some soldiers would mentally shut down and others thrive. In these experiments he would expose the soldiers to situations that would mimic that of a real war situation.

He made his landmark discovery while performing a specific test in which he would have a soldier listen to the sound of a bomb exploding while looking at a white screen. The soldiers reactions where minimal in all instances. He then changed the image of the screen to a red background and found that when the sound of a bomb would go off the soldiers would have a natural reaction to try and shield themselves from harms way. Congratulations if you made it this far because I made it all up, but yeah I lean too. 👍

I'm a leaner and I've noticed that sometimes when im trying to overtake or trying not to crash I hold my breath lol....

I was about to google that!!! Glad I didnt
that was funny

My best friends son thinks the DS3 is a steering wheel, when he turns in to a corner he gives it full lock with the controler :)

I have tried to explain that it makes no difference but its a habit he cant get out of!! (bless him) along with sticking his toung out when in deep concentration, lol

I tend to over steer too much (as in turning the wheel too much) when I'm trying to align my car to my racing line.

Oh Im terrible for it, especially if watching my other half drive when I lean and weave all over the place and cringe at a crash or wall scrape! But I can only see thru one eye so never seen 3D and so these games seem extra real to me! Try playing the psp version with earphones in, and do a big jump!

Funniest thing I've seen all week. Nice job.

I lean when I know I'm going wide, or off. It is a natural reaction to perceived impending G's. Your mind thinks the G's are really coming. It's what you would do in real life to maintain equilibrium.

I don`t lean, but I tend to line up my TV while getting serious :sly: (it is placed 45° on a table).
I sit back on my chair and few seconds later I am not happy with its direction. Move it again a tiiiny bit and get back on my chair only to realize I`m still not pleased with its direction. After 4 or 5 times moving my TV a bit to the right a bit to the left for no reason I am rdy LOL.

And the casing of my DS3 Controller has become very noise since GT5 because I cramp my hands alot and strong during corners.

Yea i fear for the integrity of my DS3 cos I press that X button really hard even tho i know it makes no difference. And as for cornering, well the poor analog stick!

I'm glad I'm not alone with the lean! I never, ever have moved a control pad or myself in the direction of a corner in my whole gaming life (starting with Pole Position on Atari 2600!), but for some reason I've started to do it now on GT5!

Why Polyphony didn't include six-axis control in the game I don't know - we wouldn't look like tools then!

PS I loved that story about Vukovic lol

I do lean a bit myself. Mostly during tense moments in FPS'. My little brother is in a league of his own, though. He leans playing poker, and I need to tape him when he's playing Wipe Out.

Watching him makes you hesitate between your need for a barfbag, or man diapers. Facial ticks are just plain weird.

Yes, I do lean a lot and move the controller around, and I think it helps me to be a better driver

I don't move the controller around but I do lean my head/upper body a bit, and find myself wincing as I'm about to crash.

LMAO at the Vukovic story. I do this, too. I used to turn the controller, too, now that I use a G27 I find myself leaning hard and pulling on the wheel going through sharp corners. It's funny how the human mind works.

When I'm pushing the car hard, my body tenses up and I become oblivious to everything except GT5. The AMG Academy special events in particular were exhausting.

Yeah, I lean too. As a matter of fact I also lean when I play FPS games, like when I'm looking around a corner or something.

I do that too... :embarrassed:

Not only that, if it's a tight corner my arms sort of swing out to one side with the controller at arms length!!

There's nothing funny about it this as it happens in real life, and it's a question of whether you're doing it with your heart or your head.

Look at F1 drivers throughout history - those who drove with their hearts and who tended to have more feel for a car, always leaned over to some degree, whilst the more calculating drivers stayed nice an upright, not expressing any emotion.

It's worth noting that the more passionate drivers tended to be faster, but whether this is down to the element more talent or throwing caution to the wind, I don't know.

I lean forward to concentrate myself.

But sometimes I find myself reacting to the corners and that stuff. I guess it is normal.
