Would this do any damage to data?

It shouldnt,but dont disconnect the power supply. If you can quit or shutdown system like normal,then do that. If not push the button

Ok, I just quit the game and restarted it, everything's ok! I guess I freaked out a bit too muck. Thanks!

Mine does it every great once and a while. Not only with GT either

I get the same randomly, exiting GT Auto, leaving a lobby etc.
Some times disconnecting from PSN works, some times waiting about 5 minutes does the work, and there are times that restart is the only option.

@MOTORTRENDmitch
i havent tried ejecting the disc, will try it next time.

This happens to me almost every day. I just eject the disc.

Usually no big deal except very annoying.

But last week it locked up and wouldn't eject or respond in any way. The only way I could get the playstation to respond was to shut it off. That caused file system damage and had to do a system restore.

Never shut down the system unplugging it from the power. It will mostly corrupt your data.

If GT stuck on the loading screen, first thing you can try is remove the Internet cable or sign out from PSN.

If that doesn't help, then try to quit the game.

I don't know what will happen if you eject the disc.

But if your system is frozen, hold the power button for a prolonged time and it will always turn off keeping your files safe. (at least my data wasn't corrupted after several freezes playing BF3)

1. Hardwire directly to your modem, and reset it before you start.
2. Disable custom music, if enabled.
3. Clear your system cache. Anything online builds up here, including seasonals and b-spec remote races. Keep it clear, and it should improve your experience.

Why didn't I think of this haha ...I have been getting annoyed with this issue for the last few weeks. Once I also had to do the system restore thing :nervous:

That's not the best advice. I've lost my whole system that way. File system was corrupted and even restore function was useless. I had to format whole system, so lost my all savegames, settings etc.

How you say; NIGHTMARE!!

@McClarenDesign
Thanks (and im not being sarcastic) cause your post will probably help others 👍
But here is my settings:
1. Hardwire directly to your modem, and reset it before you start.
It is via lan cable connected to modem/router with static ip, preconfigured DNS to router and to PS3, PS3 is in DMZ and UPnP enabled. 12/2 connection Nat Type 2.
I play many games on-line and i have 0 problems.
2. Disable custom music, if enabled.
Except the menu music (that i have picked 2 or 3 tracks from the default menu tracks) and the default music in UCD,NCD,GTauto,Tuning Shop, pre-race music (that i honestly dont remember if there is an option to disable them) everything else is disabled.
I dont like music in racing games.
3. Clear your system cache. Anything online builds up here, including seasonals and b-spec remote races. Keep it clear, and it should improve your experience.
I do it every time before quitting the game.

I have deleted the game data for 3rd time since release day, installed the game without internet, so i can install the updates over the main installation and i have to say that it got a bit better, but there are some times that even the XMB isnt accessible.....and i have to switch it off by holding down the power button on the PS3.

This isnt a PS3 or Internet connection relative problem, this is strictly a GT5 problem.
All of my in-game mates have experienced this, many people around the world testify that have experienced the very same problem,with Slim or Fat PS3's with various settings.

The chances that somehow the user/ps3/internet triggers this error, are extremely low.
