While CD-RW discs are erasable, they

are

very

slow

to

burn.

Don't bother. If you screw up a CD-R, toss it. It's a dime or so, who cares?

If you want to make sure nobody can get the data off of it, put it in a microwave till it breaks. :dopey:

Sorry to hijack this thread but theres no point in creating a new thread besides this one says help! so its fitting...... I need help!!!!! please!

I have an old computer with has xp pro but not service pack 2...its on 56k, I want to go to a mates who has a fast net connection to download the pack and then put it on my ipod and bring it home...BUT!!!

Stupid microsoft has made download center really odd..... basically you cannot get the service pack 2 file on its own without using live update!! I need the damn file! if i run live update on my mates it will say I dont need it because he already has it!

so...... where do I get the service pack 2 file..... microsoft used to have it but now they only have the 266mb one for networked mulitple computers not for a single machine.......

Pleaseeeeeee help I really need to know quick because ive got to go to his soon......

Why don't you ask them to send you out a CD?

That would take Microsoft ages and I can just imagine the fuss of form filling and stuff.....I really need to get this up and running quickly...

Take your pc over to his house? You only need to take the box.

I could do that yes, only problem is that I would have to install all his boadband stuff and connect it up...... that may be my only option I suppose... or microsoft could have left the download where it was :grumpy:

Thanks for the input and replies 👍

I've never noticed any difference, to be honest. I think it just depends on what your drive takes. Some are +, some are -, some are both.
That only applies to DVDs. There's DVD+R(W) and DVD-R(W) but there's no such distinction with CDs.

KM.

Rewritable discs, both DVD (both + and -) and CD burn slower and cost WAY more than one-write recordable discs. Forget about rewritable and just burn to CD-R. Many CD players have trouble with rewritable media, also, so if you're looking to play music on a regular player, you would do better with CD-R, even though they're not erasable. Erasability is over-rated.

Just do it. Quit asking why, and use CD-R media.👍

I live near Microsoft's headquarters. If you want, I can go break in, steal a disk and mail it to you. I can deal with the prison time ;)

Dig around on Microsoft's website. I bet it's still there as stand-alone download. Failing that, I'm sure a computer forum full of computer nerds can tell you where you can get a trustworthy copy from (unless they all run Linux).

  ........ Im sure is hasnt been the first time someone has wanted to break into microsoft! You would deal with prison for a SP2 disk! could you imagine when the other sell mates ask you what your in for! nah I couldnt ask you to do that, it would be wong of me to get another GTPlanet member in jail... MS say it takes 6-8 weeks to get the disk...... where does it go! to the moon and back???!!!

I really did look loads for it... its really annoying and I dont get why they removed it..... I think microsoft are paranoid about someone copying it......even though its free!!!!!:dunce: Anyway I just downloaded the whopping 266mb version instead for networked computers..... it will be just the same its just took more time..... saved me taking my com to my mates house though!......

Linux..... to advanced for me!

Anywho sorry to hijack the thread...... carry on...... and thanks for all the input :) 👍
