I just got a math test on quadratics back.
66% YES!
(3/4 of the class failed or got so low of a mark that they had to come in and redo it. Only 5-6 people actually passed.)
I got 92% on the previous test so that kind of makes up for it.

Nice! I got results of a geometry test today and I found out I got 100%! I'm quite pleased with grades this year actually, especially in geometry.

I haven't gotten to quadratics or anything like that yet. I've been doing mostly algebra right now. I'm not sure, but quadratics seems pretty advanced, so 66% doesn't seem so bad. When I get to something like that, I'm expecting I'd get marks somewhere closer to perhaps 75%, though I won't guarantee anything. I've been getting marks around 80-90% in math lately, so 75 seems probable.
My spring break doesn't start until next Thursday. :grumpy:
I just had mine last week. 9 days off smack in the middle of March throws my schedule way off.

I forget who said they wish their teacher didn't teach to the lower half of the class. Usually the teachers that teach to the lower half are the better ones, because no one fails, and the smart people like myself are picked back up from our descent to bad marks when we missed a few days. The reason I have 91 in math so far is because for the first week I relearned pretty much everything from last year, because my teacher cared, and saw that when I know what I am doing, I can get high marks. Last year I had 55 at midterm, this year it's 91. If someone fails and has the lower-half of the class type teacher, they need initiative.

Some of that stuff is really hard and confusing, I would normally be disappointed with a 66 but only 20% of the class actually passed then I'm pleased with that mark. But yeah, I'm usually much higher than that.
If you can keep up the 80-90 then you'll be golden.

 How big was the test?! Like a full scale, 1 hour test?
That would be amazing if it was, stupid COM always brings me down a couple of percent.

Sooo happy Spring Break is coming. The sad bit is I wont get to talk to the Girl in my French class, and all but one of my mates are going out of the country. Family and offroading time, indeed!

Yeah, from the stuff I've seen, it looks confusing. But I'm not worried. I could easily crack 70 after I warm up to this kind of math considering my current status. How will I do it?

NOT MATH! THE HORROR!
What sort of stuff are you doing now? Because parabolas will mess with your brain.
(Taken from test)
Factor the following:
y=6x(squared)+13x+5
^That is really easy once you get into it.
Finding the zeros on this one is not easy, however.
h(t)=-0.62t(squared)+13.02t
If you asked me to do that now I couldn't because I have forgotten it already.
I should probably study a bit...
(This stuff is hard for ME, others might find it like childs play.)

The fist time you see quadriatics it's confusing but after some time it grows on you and becomes slightly tedious, i'd say the hardest think you'll ever do is proofs only because they are painstakingly long (Geometry) right now we are doing the law of sines and cosines and such (pre-calc)

I'm currently doing some kind of algebra, and finding the value of the placeholder letter. It's basic, at least for me. And that doesn't look that hard, though I can't solve that without any answer so I can actually figure out what X equals. Not sure if understanding what factoring is, but that equation looks pretty simple for me if there was an actual answer. Once I get into stuff like that, I'll probably learn what factoring is. My math to do list doesn't seem to state "Panic" so I won't worry about this stuff, I've got time until it comes. Nearing my 1100th post! When I will, I will post ponies or something.

In my Modern World History/Social Studies class, my class is on World War I and the other teacher's class is on the Cold War.
I hate teachers that teach to the lower half of the class. The no student left behind strategy really annoys me sometimes.

That is why they have AP classes. There is no "lower half" however they require you to be quite independent. Take some next year.

By the way if you guys don't like quadratics imagine calculus AP which I'm taking right now. A college rep said this is stuff they don't teach until their calculus 2 course. Integrals anyone!

Yeah, you will learn about factoring.
It's just a way of changing it into a different format, so there is no actual answer, just another equation.
Is the algebra in grade 9 or 10? I'm currently in 11. And yay.

Edit: Aww Yeah new header sig.

Woo integration and differentiation. Which to be fair isn't too bad once you learn how to do it, it's just getting your head round it. Least that's what I've found, though this year we only do it fairly basically. Just until you get the notation it's confusing.

Same here with AP english + pre calc, I decided to take CAD next year instead of AP Calc, a friend of mine dropped out @ semester, and I'm having a tough enough time with pre-calc (specifically this chapter).

I missed 2 days for the FIRST FRC competition, and I was behind in every class, I'm almost caught up, the worst part is the teachers never think about you having 6 classes. Now I just need to finish math as I just finished my English paper, I'm so glad I only tried 1 AP class this year.

I saw this on the news and gave it a try last year when we had a student teacher in math, khanacademy.org, it's worth it if you are really struggling in math

The thing I hate about most higher-school maths is that it's nearly always algebra. I just can't do it to save my life. Any other sort of math (geometry, arithmetic, etc) I can do fine in but where there's algebra I'll usually get about 50-60% in tests.

Thank goodness I don't have to do it for HSC :D

The integrals are ok it's all the trig values that make it ridiculous and the problems that never have a solution like ones that contain e to the x power Which is more frustrating than anything. I've got a solid 95 in there so not bad considering there's only three kids.

Quadratics in grade 10 is a PITA.

Quadratics in grade 11, since you know the basic concepts from grade 10, is slightly easier.

I could probably help some of you guys if you need it.

Did anyone else really enjoy factoring? I don't usually enjoy math, and didn't care for most of the stuff we learned in high school, but for some reason factoring was really fun to me. :boggled:

Factoring equations is pretty fun lol

I enjoy(ed) factoring. It's a lot more fun when you have to do it by trial and error. My math teacher has made mathematics almost enjoyable, dare I even say fun. Today's lesson was vertex-form equations. So simple. Sooo simple! Basically, I just remember what she said, "Math is just one big puzzle." When you get things right, and solve the preverbial equation, it is rewarding. My day was scary quick. My sleeping strategy of 5pm-10pm, then 3:30am-6:30am resulted in me being alert and better focussed today. Though I missed part of my lunch, but I was helping a hot girl with math homework, so it was worth it. Wasn't flustered or anything, I was calm and composed.

I hated math at school. I hate math now
Quite good at history though.
