Worm, frog or cat? It won't be as bad as you think.

I was the very few people on my class who would even touch the sheep's heart, let alone cut it up. Pretty squeamish for 16-year-old guys. I feel ashamed![]()
SkythonYou feel ashamed that other people have a sense of respect to the dead?
Depends on who the person is. For me it was worse than I thought, I don't want to dissect a creature for no reason. It's wrong in my opinion. Why do we need to know what is inside a cat, or a rat (in my position in Yr 10)?
I can see your reasoning as to why you doesn't want to do it. Just tell them that you don't want to take part in such a disrespectful, cruel and pointless activity.
TeslaAre you vegetarian? If not, then all the meat on your plate has gone through much worse than what you're dissecting has. Chances are that it had died a natural death or had been bred to be used for dissection.
Generally, if you let your teacher know that you are uncomfortable with the concept, they won't force you to do it. There were two guys in my class when I was in year nine who could not stand the sight of blood. They let the teacher know in advance, and they were given the period off (though they were expected to make the class up through theory content - just just didn't have to do dissections).Doing dissections this week in biology. It's a sheep. Do you expect them to hold the same reverence for a leg of lamb? You feel ashamed that other people have a sense of respect to the dead?
We used mice. I still remember my lab partner naming it "Julie" and attempting to resuscitate him while his entrails were everywhere. I remember, because he managed to rupture the intestines and the smell was enough to give us headaches for the rest of the day.We used Cane Toads in year 8.. My groups toad still had a moving cricket inside its stomachlol:

Anyway, 2 hour stop-work meeting on Friday = no school![]()

We did that earlier this year (Year 9) with a pigs heart and pigs lungs. I was OK and so was most of the class but there were one or two people that had to get some air. I found it most fascinating though how all of this stuff goes on inside our bodies subconsciously.I was the very few people on my class who would even touch the sheep's heart, let alone cut it up. Huh?
