Tuner or Racer?

In an online lobby where it states "street cars only" or "no race cars" the HKS CT230R should not be allowed. I ask people change it if put up a lobby of that kind.

The car is not street legal. Nor it is legal for most racing series either. Like said in many of the previous posts, it's not-street-legal tuner car. Most of the tuning company cars in GT5 are street legal but not this one. People who state otherwise please check your facts. :)

+Did I mention at any point that a tuning car has to be street legal?
 
It's the shell of an Evo wrapped around a custom chassis/etc. It's not a tuned version of anything.

Race Car.

Its the other way round.. the chassis of an evo.. with an all carbon body aero kit.. also on road tyres
Yet it has no head lights so is not road legal.. im not sure what to class it as
 
This car isn't a road car and nor is it a race car, this car is in the gray area the Zonda R is at. So how about add another option to the poll, something like a 'neither of the two' option.

You said that you had this debate in an online lobby. So I assume that the talk was about if it should be allowed in an online race where no race cars are allowed. Am I right? In that case my point still stands and I think it should not be allowed in a such race. In real life, yeah it's not a real race car, but no way near a street car either. Just like the Zonda R for example.

I had a same kind of talk about the Amuse S2000 GT1 Turbo earlier and that's a different case. It has matched all the street car regulations and thus is a pure street legal tuner. Just like the Blitz ER34 Skyline.

But I think it would qualify into the no race cars category

Many people let RM's into no race car rooms as they don't consider them to be proper race cars.

I think RM's are race cars but there are some RM cars that don't perform like race cars, (classic camaro and challenger) which perhaps should be allowed

Same can be said bout the zonda r.. you cant race it.. you cant use it on the road..
how about we call them track cars??
 
Thats exactly what they are,the HKS CT230R was built for time attack series and special track runs/organizations, it was never meant to run in any race series of any sort, just to make and break amazing track time records, just like the Zonda R, it broke the lap time at the Nurburgring,but ispurpose built for the track and nothing else, the R stands for Race, but just cause of the cars trim and such.
 
Since the general public apparently can't settle on one opinion, I would just leave it with the choice PD has made: It's a Tuned Car, because it comes with Sports Soft tyres from the dealership.

As a reminder:

Road & Concept Cars come with Comfort Medium - Sports Hard depending on Weight/Power Ratio.

Tuned Cars come with Sports Soft.

Tuned Cars for drifting come with Comfort Softs (when they should come with Sports Hard, if classified as Road Cars or Sports Soft, if classified as Tuned Cars)

Race Cars come with Racing Hard.

Rally Cars come with Sports Medium.
 
This car is one of my favourites! The best track car in the globe (retired), he beat anycar on any country, and the 2nd best still does (cyberevo)! Its a race car in my opinion!

HKS CT230R has made a lot of fastest records as a tuning car.
The street version of CT230R was developed based on feedback from CT230R.
The street version of the CT230R is a completely different vehicle, and in no way proves anything about the time attack car. It isn't even called the same thing.

I read the link. The CT200R is nothing more than an Evo IX MR with some relatively mild tuning (in some countries you can buy an Evo straight from Mitsubishi tuned higher than that) and most of the CT230R body kit added on.

The argument that the CT200R existing means the CT230R is not a race car is like saying that a GC Impreza WRC is not a race car because Subaru made the Impreza 22B.

I read the link. The CT200R is nothing more than an Evo IX MR with some relatively mild tuning (in some countries you can buy an Evo straight from Mitsubishi tuned higher than that) and most of the CT230R body kit added on.

Really?! A wide body in carbon from Mitsubichi?! I think you must have explained youre self wrong... ;)!

Or, considering "body kit" doesn't constitute "tuning" and I only mentioned Mitsubishi to compare states of tune, you read it wrong.

To answer this question you need to define what a "tuner" car is.

To me, a tuner car is a street legal road going car that has been modified for performance but still able to drive on the street legally.

Now a tuner car can also be a race car. IE I slap on some performance parts and go race on the weekends. Its still a street legal car but I race it.

A purpose built race car is built from the ground up to compete in some sort of race and is usually not street legal at all.

So in the end I feel that the HKS falls into the Purpose Built Race Car category and is therefore not a "tuner" and I would not allow it in a "NO RACE CAR" event.

So the question is what is the car tuned for? I'm assuming if its not built for any specific competitive event then logic would assume that the vehicle would have to be street legal.

Unless you're tuning the car to keep it parked? Not likely in my opinion.

Basically what I'm saying is a Tuner car would have to be street legal in most cases. Why tune a car that you would never drive? Seeing as how its not built for any specific competitive events when would you drive it?
 
A lot of real life circuits hold track days now. I have a couple of friends that have tuned 'track cars' that aren't registered for road use but quite easily can be (they both have tuned daily drivers to). They bought and built their cars just for track use so there is a reason you would tune a non street driven car...

So they have cars that they use specifically for "track days"? Isn't that what a race car is? This is where tuner cars can also be race cars falls into place. The fact that your friends only use their cars on the track though heavily suggests that they are race cars (or track cars if you prefer).

It is based on the Evo.

Look at the obvious points.

It's got the body shape and style of an Evo

It's 4wd like the evo

I've read up on the making of the car.

They took an Evo

Reinforced the chassis

Threw a load of they're off the shelf tuning parts in with a couple of others designed for this car.

Stripped the interior

Changed the gear box

And replaced the body with a carbon fibre aero version designed to create additional downforce and save weight

The CT230R is based on a "Evo VII".
I would classify this car as a Tuner with properties of a DTM or Super GT car with road legal tyres.

Seems like a purpose built sports cars which is intended for the track. Most of the models I see in the showroom are open cockpit which would stretch the definition of a truly road going vehicle. Sure the car is street legal but would you drive it in the rain? Snow? Its home is in the track and i'm sure most owners would agree. That may be why most people use them on the track.

Anyway the debate isn't whether such and such car is a tuner/race car but is the HKS car a tuner or race car. And to that I say it should be considered a race car.

This 👍. Not to mention that the Caterham has literally nothing to do with the HKS Evo.

No, they're not race cars because they can still be street registered, the only thing that needs changing is the exhaust and tyres.
A race car IMO is a car that is specifically built to a regulation and competes in races against other cars that match those regs. These guys just go out to have some fun and enjoy their cars somewhere safe. :-)
