If a Driver is run into by another car and has to lose 3 laps for repairs, do they get their positions back?

;)

But see thats a drivers error. If anything was my fault I wouldnt be asking this. This wasnt a driver's error.

I appreciate the warning but we'll see how it goes this coming weekend. I love a straight up challenge like that.
Sarthe's engraved in my mind and I will perfect my laps and tire strategy there all week.

I want the win so I won't make it an easy race, that's for sure.

Also, Mule:

As for quali. at Sarthe and how that will be handled? Allow me to highly recommend the route we took in WSGTC.

I'll copy over what we did, credit to Denilson:

"2. Quali for La Sarthe. We will do quali like always (Live quali.). BUT it will be a bit different.

QUALI will be set to 1 lap. The entire "race" will also be set to 1 lap. The time from sector 2 to the finishline will be your quali time. The line for sector 2 is just after the first chicane on the big straight. The entire first sector will be your "warm up lap" and the portion from sector 2 to the finish will be your one "flying lap"

One shot. Different, but then again everything's different at Le Mans.

This will keep the time needed to qualify people down.

Let me know what you guys think.
I like the idea, if we did a full 4 lap normal qualifying it would take 20 minutes just to qualify two cars or however many we will do at a time.

You should hold practice sessions. just so people can perfect their tune around other cars.

I don't know La Sarthe at all :nervous:. I'm going to have to practice a bunch this week.

You should hold practice sessions. just so people can perfect their tune around other cars.

Anyone who is registered is free to hold an unofficial practice session. Open a room and post the room number here. People will join if they are up for it.

So if I'm run into by another car, it's my fault, then? No it isn't. But Istill lose three laps because of it. It's a tough break, and as much as what I whine and complain about, the most that will ever happen is that the guy who hit me will be penalized. That's it. I'm not given my spot back, because that's how racing works. A freak glitch on GT5 is basically the same thing. Not your fault, but not enough to warrant promoting you, and penalizing people who did nothing wrong.

Wardez, that seems like a cool idea. I'll probably test it out.

Sorry, BlackIce, but I agree. We should not set the precedent of promoting drivers up positions when there is an incident of any kind. It's easy to imagine the problems this could cause in the future.

For example, say there was a three way battle for first place going on with fourth place far behind. On the last lap the second place car (car B) performs an illegal move which causes the first place car (car A) to crash. What should we do in this instance? From Mule's opening posts and discussion so far, I assume we would penalize car B so that it finishes behind car A. We would not promote car A back to first place. If it was a close three way battle, how is it fair to the third car (car C) to automatically give car A the victory? Car C may have overtaken both cars and won the race had there not been an incident.

The precedence for this has been set in our league, in fact. When RT and I had an incident in the last turn on the last lap at Tsukuba where RT crashed - losing one position as a result - RT was not promoted back to his position prior to the crash. Instead, I was penalized to finish behind him.

I understand that you were so far ahead of 5th place when the glitch happened that it is highly likely that you would have finished in 4th place. However, there is no guaranty that you would have finished in 4th. There is a possibility that you would have crashed again. It's not fair to those who you would be promoted ahead of.

Also, what happens if someone gets booted from the room mid-race? Are they going to finish in the position they were in before dropping out? Mule, maybe glitches and connection issues should be addressed by you in the league rules. That way there will be no debating incidents like this in the future.

nice race report nastra. it was fun working with the pack up front.

once wardez pitted on lap 9 you created some separation on me and i dont think i saw you again. wardez made a mistake near the end of the race and i caught up to him, but he passed me on the last lap and i was unable to overtake him. i wasn't expecting my tires lasted 10 laps, but when the leaders stayed out after lap 8 i figured i would just go for it.

overall a very fun race and a challenging track.

From the position list I could see that you caught up to wardez and were battling it out for second place. Very cool! Nice driving too. When I get some time I'll take some photos of this race. There was lots of overtaking going on throughout the race which should make for some good photos.

If you drop mid-race, treat it like an Engine failure or something.

ie, a DNF.

OT: Realized I used the wrong "break" in my post.

lol.

Accidents are always a drivers error, if u get hit and u are run off course its still a drivers error, the other drivers error. That is an incident that could have been avoided, this couldn't have been avoided at all is what I'm saying.

You're missing the point. I'll try to simplify it.

If you are hit, lose an engine, have brake failure, etc., it is NOT YOUR FAULT. However, you still lose time, and are never given your position back. That is racing.

Getting a freak glitch, dropping, etc., is also NOT YOUR FAULT. However, in the world of GT5, once in a blue moon, it happens. It has to be treated the same way as above.

Racing is racing, never will go your way. Things happen, some day you win someday you lose, it just a game. Next week should be fun.

I'm over it already, just as long as I am still in first or tied for first.

And what is this about the Mini- Enduro Race on Sunday? Today or next week?

Why not just use cautions and red flags?

Mule did you look at the replay already ?
I'll get to it on Monday.

What time is the mini - enduro? couldn't make this weeks race my bad.
It's next sunday. Set for 4:30, but it's open to change, as Qualifying will probably take longer than usual.

Why not just use cautions and red flags?

I've yet to see a serious race series on here use them. Not to mention how a) Mics are strongly discouraged while racing, and b) not everyone would get the message. It would cause more problems than it solves.

Any chance you can make the race start at like 5:30? I will qualify last minute, also what track and how many laps? About how long will the race take?

sarthe 2009 time change, 20 laps, 90 minutes

Holy crap this car drives nice on a real life track when you lower the rear down force. The back end is all over the place. This is a bit dangerous though when you have the brake balance at 1:10; touch the brakes at the wrong point and the back end flies out!

The track is very challenging. Although, I have to say it's lacking off-camber corners . Practicing this track is tough as well thanks to the humongous straights.

Yeah you have like a year to prepare for a corner then when you get to it, you **** it up, you have to wait another year to have a go at it again. I can't really see anyone having the time to get a perfect set up for this one.

Oh wow,I'm dumb.

hahaha.

I'll fix that. It's Saturday.

Ya, I was wondering because it said Sunday instead of Saturday so I thought this Mini-Enduro race was just for fun and no points.

I guess we will have to compare lap times although the qualify will be part of one lap. Glad flaying lap starts in the 2nd Sector because I suck at the first Sector.

Awe man, accidental double post! I meant to click edit.....

Nastra got fastest lap (2:14.571)

No penalties.

Was I was thinking for qualifying was just having 1 flying lap instead of 2. However, I'll try a few things out and see which one I like best.
