I have nothing against bump drafting, so long as there's no slamming going on, and you're letting off before a corner.

Dude bump drafting's only not used in series that have spoilers or expensive splitters surrounding the car. Trust me, if DTM or SuperGT or V8Supers had bumpers team mates would be drafting all the time man!

Edit: Tree'd by Turbo, only read last page. Nice post 👍

If you don't want to bumpdraft on sarthe that's fine by me  I'll be 30 seconds in front of you with my nose stuck to someone's ass after 3 or 4 laps :p

Alright Turbo...

in all seriousness people typically do not bumpdraft except nascar.

Ohh really? Please don't take this the wrong way but have you done this on real life?
Not only the top series but in the club racing level you can pretty much expect it every time you are on a big track, especially on the low hp classes.

Motor racing is a non contact sport. The only exceptions are demolition derby and, erm, oh yeah, NASCAR. I think some of you guys need to read the online racing rules again! If we ever get online again!!

Racing isn't anything absolute. What we're pointing out is that it's dependent on the type of car being raced.

Of course you can't bump draft in F1, but you sure as hell should in a street weekend warrior.

I may as well ask this now:

If PSN is still down Friday/Saturday, yet comes back up Saturday night/Sunday Morning, if I were to have the race on Sunday, would you guys be able/willing to race?

I would!

Count me in! I cant afford for the series to be delayed another week!

Being from the UK, surely you have heard of the BTCC??? What about the WTCC? I guess somebody forgot to tell all of the world's top level touring car racers that motor racing is a non contact sport.

Maybe I should pull some you tube videos...

I am not sure what has more punts.. A Baltimore Ravens - New York Jets game. Or the above posted racing series.

These races look like the ones you would pick up if you just randomly join an online lobby. Are there no regulations or penalties in these series?

Interesting to see though. Do most Los Angeles drivers get their driver's license from this series? (One too many?)

Oh yeah, we have rounds 7,8 & 9 of the BTCC on Sunday. As racing goes it's probably the most entertaining series we have. I'd love to race a bit more like this but as this is my first racing series and a rookie season I don't want to incur the wrath of the 'mule' and anyone else I punt off so I've tried to keep my racing as clean as possible. Probably to clean ;)

If the race runs sunday I doubt I would skip it, but it's not an ideal situation to say the least. Obviously you understand how everyone's preparation will be affected, but I understand you don't want to delay the season more than you have to.

I'll make it if I can, but can't promise I can.

I haven't really tuned my setup much since the online physics vary so much from the offline physics. Has anyone been doing offline tuning that they plan to translate to the online race? I was thinking of just dropping the tires to sport soft for offline tuning. I think sports soft offline is around the same level of grip as racing hard online.

Something that has become acceptable in the BTCC which I don't like is the bump pass where the car in front is tapped going into a corner, thus unsettling the car then letting the car behind to get his nose up the inside. It's a bit naughty. I tried to find a clip but I couldn't so i put this clip up instead.

Love the sound of the transmission and if only racing with you guys was this easy!

I haven't had a chance to view the clip.. but yeah I hate to see that bump pass. I won't even do that in A-spec. Unfortunately after watching a few replays of our series I have seen someone think this is an appropriate thing to do. Thankfully, he is the only one I have seen do it.

Hopefully moving forward in our series that won't happen anymore. That is a very "weak" way to pass in my view.

The bump pass is utilized in many RL race series, unfortunately you're right in that it's a bit "weak" :/

BTCC 2007 vid - anyone else notice that the RAC beamer was involved in at least 50% of the run offs and accidents?

IMO real racing is a much more aggressive sport than what we can achieve on gt5. Reason being - FEAR. If I take a gap in gt5, the person will just close the door without a second thought. IRL you would be scared of a collision and would be much more likely to let me "have" the spot.

What ends up happening for me in GT5 is I have to change my racing technique entirely. Aggressive passes aren't really possible unless you are blatantly faster than the driver in front of you. Thus, the majority of passing comes from just waiting for the lead driver to make a mistake :(

If the race is on Sunday I would not be able to race, as I'm going to be out of the house Sunday afternoon.

I am over the whole PSN thing. They have done very little to let us know the standing of the network. I have made other plans for the weekend. I would vote for yet another postponement..

If you guys still want to run it, though, it won't hurt my feelings.

Sony says some services will be available May 3 at the earliest so we may have to postpone again.

Wow, thanks for that great bit of btcc, that has got to be the best form of motorsport on this whole planet.
Awesome!!!!!!

Well.. It was definitely entertaining to watch. Good for fans.

Must be quite stressful for the drivers in championship contention.

It kind of looks like bumper cars you rent at a family fun center. Would be a blast to grab a bunch of buddies and race for 10 laps like that... Then hand the keys to the mechanics, and say, thanks guys.

LOL that is true. we should probably just go back to the original press release on April 20 by Sony that said dont worry we are just doing some routine maintenance out of the goodness of our heart to protect your security and the system will be back online in one or two days

Don't know what you have been reading but Sony has been updating us almost every day this past week. They're moving the servers and upgrading everything. That takes time. Not only that, they are working with the San Diego FBI to track down the idiots that started this whole thing.

I'm more than satisfied with the info I have. Where have you been?
