Horns...why?

I have a few bones to pick about the horns in this game, small feature, I know, but this is a forum, and forums are for discussing.

When I first saw horns in the items list, I assumed that Kaz had thought up a humourous little way of adding a bit of comedy and uniqueness into the online racing, for example, I thought there would be an elusive ice cream van horn, and a police siren, etc etc. Also, I know that will spark a few H4RDC0R3 GT fans to raise their eyebrow and tell me that this isn't EA, and that if I dare crack a smile at GT I am not worthy of the laser it's read from.

Another thing; I see some which are, for example, 'horn no.241'. Are there actually hundreds of these? Seems odd that they would go to all that length to generate and integrate a horn system without making any variety at all.

But last of all, do any of you use them? If so, what for? To add your own touch? Or to give a big hefty Dodge Ram and high-pitched Mini Metro of a car horn?

Too bad that they can't be added to race cars.

Wow, they can't? That puts a hole in the whole system then, considering most people's common cars (that they would bother adding a single-use horn onto) would be race cars.
 
Today I tried adding one to a NASCAR stock car.
"You can't install a horn on this car"
Or something similar. I admit it doesn't mean that all race cars can't have horns, but that's the message I get. I haven't tried any other ones since I didn't want to potentially waste a horn on a car I'm not interested in.
 
Does anybody even care about the horns. Ya they are there, but no one bother's "customizing" their cars with them. Or am I wrong.
 
When you're driving online with a road car in stock tune that isn't very loud, the horns and lights can be qute fun a times.

Playing with my friends, it's not uncommon for someone to just stick on your rear bumper, flashing their lights and beeping thier horn, and yes, you can hear it.

Or when people crash, and 2 or 3 of your friends pull up next to you and start beeping - silly, but fun also.

It's little things like this that help you get over all the problems in the game, I find it just helps you forget, temporarily, all the things about this version of GT5 that have you tearing your hair out.

I haven't tried changing or adding a horn from the items list, I have got so many in there. It would be fun if there were sirens and klaxons too. :)

I did once, but then realised they all sound the same...boring. So I haven't looked back since.
 
Can you only equip one car with the horn before it goes from your items list? (I wouldnt know ive never used one and my PS3 is currently dead)

Cue topics like "Lets do a gifting exploit to get multiple horn #123"

A complete waste of time, the time they spent adding horns they could have used much better elsewhere like writing in a few more events, or ANYTHING else. Another bit of evidence if any were needed that Kaz is diluded
 
Some guy I raced tried to use them to pressure people and force them to mess up. You can definitely hear them. I don't find them useful though.
 
I have yet to use the horn in GT5. Why? G27.......

Us G27 owners can't remap the button so we have to use the DS3 if we want the horn and wiper to work. How cool is that? :sly:
 
Completely worthless to me.
Couldn't care which ones I have, never pressed the horn button, and never equipped any of them on my cars.

You can't remap any buttons at all? Ouch

I heard that not all the buttons were remappable (extras on the wheel) but I thought you could remap just as many as the G25 has?
 
Horns are great. I like the horn on the 512BB the best.

Nope, we got shafted pretty good. L3 and R3 doesn't work neither.

Does anyone know if horns count against the same 5 item gifting limit per day that encompasses paint?
I know cars and paint are separate gift limits.
I have paint trading scheduled that uses up my 5 slots per day right now.
But if the horns don't effect that limit, I'll give you all my horns if you like them, as I know I'll never use them.
Send me a friend request (bkviper) either way, and if the paint and horns are part of the same gift limit, then it will have to wait, but once I get my paint trades finished, I'll send you horns as time avails.
 
I use my horn whenever I'm bored online with my friends or when I'm racing against the AI :D. I just use them for fun.
