Slick 6:read the whole thread? i'm having trouble loacating a PEANUT job. remember, I'm a white male over thirty with a tech school education and a HS diploma...and, in MY age bracket, most people have a Masters in something, are doing a 20 year stint in the millitary service, or are using the tech scool education they got in a job that pays 20 bucks an hour so you can get covered in grease, ink, or sawdust :P

NSX-R: heh...must be the location...in MY neighborhood, the asian guys own half the city, run the hospital, and have more money than John Carter on ER...and the same job to boot :P

i'm also talking about even basic repairs. the minute I got a paycheck, my mother would have her hand out. and I mean for more than just what i used...i've paid a few of the rent's bills. even now, she has her hand out, and is saying "you WILL give me money".

That doesn't make sense. Why pay $2000 on a $700 car? You could buy a car nearly 3 times as good for that money.

You were better off buying a car for $2000, instead of getting it fixed.....

Sorry to drag this on, but where do you guys live? Here all of us Asian guys are the poorest of the bunch, for example I have to walk in -30 degrees, knee-deep snow for 2 kms to get to work.

Then again, these rich kids were probably born in US anyway, spending Daddy's money as fast as burning them. There is one more thing to point out: The reason why all people are so hung up on cars is that they love them.

except when they are social climbers.

In my case, I'm talking about brand new ex-pats, College degree in Asia, board license in the US, and in six months, you make more money than you spent on your education in the first place. Within those six months, they get an apartment, and whether or not they can afford the gas and payments, they get a brand new car. Preferably an Expedition because it's soooo "The American Dream".

I don't see a problem with helping with bills. I did that when I lived with my mom for six months between college and moving into an apartment. I mean, I had a job, why not?

That said, if you can afford to move and she doesn't need you to live with her for some medical reason I would consider moving to a place with more job opportunities.

I feel so dumb right now...

What is ex-pats?:nervous:

ex-patriots, immigrants, countrymen outside the country. It's a local term (here), so don't fret over it.

You don't need that much do you?

In my opinion, some nice rims and a bigger muffler tip does the trick 👍

BTW: If you really want the money, you'll do anything ;)

Robico: even the 2000 dollar cars needed at least that much in repairs. you want a car that doen't immediately need a tune up, all the fluids changed and all the normal wear items replaced...you need to spend 10 large on an '02

Niky: yup. that's the way it is around here, too...9 chinese restaurants in a burough of 8000? more Indian doctors than a british clinic?

FK: when I got handed a bill...it was for about 75% of my paycheck after taxes.

Not knowing the current situation, I hope that the amount is fair and that she isn't just making you cover everything. If that is teh case then this comes down to a real-life scenario that you would face living anywhere.

Now, if she is just making you pay everything then I suggest getting out of there.

I don't know how you feel about lying to your mother (I did it just fine until I graduated college) but you could always lie about how much you made so that you can put some away that she won't know about.

thats not necessarily true i paid 2g for my 92 rs all ive put on it were tires and a tune up and trans fluid change and its been 20k miles in 7 months. you just need to learn what to look for when buying a used car thats all. just because it looks "pretty" doesnt mean a thing. my car may need a paint job but she runs pretty strong for 185k on a weezy l03

FK: thank GOD that was a few years ago, now. back in the dream days when gas was only 1.35 a gallon, and the minimum wage was 4 and a quarter. i was lucky to walk away with 175 every pay...and it wasn't every two weeks, either. it was on fixed days of the month...the 10th and the 25th, if i remember right...which meant you would have to go up to 16 days without a paycheck, and hope you didn't have a bill bounce on you, as they tended to come due a week before your next paycheck came XP

but, yeah, the minute I start getting a regular paycheck again...she's gonna hand me bills AND expect to have spare pin money handy for her...so I won't spend anything on me, mostly. i don't buy much nowadays besides car parts, cheap 8.88 walmart clearence DVD's, and video games under 20 bucks (i gotta buy a new copy of GT4...mine landed wrong, and scratched the bejebus out of the data area for the non world tracks. can't play on any tracks but those and the foreward city courses).

B_B_B: that only happened with me exactly once. an 83 Celebrity. mint inside, wors case of orange peel you ever saw outside. absolutely perfect. you could stick a 20 oz bottle in the ashtray, the thing got 25 MPG CITY, had brand new tyres on it, a great radio...and I got it for an even trade. that december, i slid off the road into a culvert. it went to the junkyard soley on its age and an irreplacable crossmember (were GM a bods BoF or unibod?). that's when I ended up with a beat-up toyota :P
