Hiya

I am in the process of setting up a league and was interested in using the shuffle mode

Can someone please explain how it works and what the different levels do ?

Many thanks

Paul

In the first race of Shuffle mode, every driver is given a random car from a pool. The majority of cars range from around 180-250 bhp, although there are some super light and super heavy cars with less and more than this. In the second race, if you have a high shuffle ratio, each driver will be given a new car depending on how well they did on the first race. For example, the winner of the first race may be given a slow car for the second race to even the field. If you have a lower shuffle ratio, the effect of this is lessened.

nope all low hp street cars with comfort soft tire, i believe.
Its a blast with an almost full room and a low ratio

Out of 1030+ cars you will get a generous 20 ish of the most boring standard cars and you get a "lucky" dip of which to drive each race!

Can be fun though!

oh and!!!
If you enter a shuffle race and the race is going on, when the race is over if you are not in the race you will get booted from the room by the system. its not anyone kicking you out. so try to enter shuffle races when the race is not going on. Usually people will wait a couple minute in between just for this

Only 20 cars, not many is it !!

Oh well, will give it a trial and see how it goes !!
Thanks all

Paul

Definitely more than 30, but I guess it depends on shuffle ratio.

Some absolute hoot of drives in there...

MR-S slow but you can catch powerslides to easy
That 80's skyline - power power power + backend.

And the 300 SL.

it sucks that they domt include more high power cars such as the Jaguar XK or the M5! still can be quite fun depending on the type of racing

Becasue that would make it more unfair. There is some level of balance in the cars, hence it makes for varied and fun racing.

It also automatically sets the start order to reverse grid for the second race & all those after, so if you finish first in race 1 you'll end up at the back with a slower car. It's good for faster drivers as they can now compete with slower drivers & work their way through the field, slower drivers are given faster cars & higher grid positions.

I tried it for the first time yesterday & it was a lot of fun, you gotta like stock cars with slippy tyres to really enjoy it though, which I do. I had the shuffle ratio set to 3 by the way.

👍

I tried this last night with 6 of us

Started with Shuffle Ratio 10 and Boost on low

Every race finished with about 3 seconds between first and last, absolutely exactly what I wanted from this for our next league

Makes a very even field and gives EVERYONE a chance of winning

I also varied the Ratios but did not notice an aweful lot of difference but that is probably because I am not very good at the types of cars and wouldnt realise what subtle differences the ratios do.

Thx all

Paul

The shuffle ratio changes the progression of cars you'll see appear over many consecutive races. If you use a different shuffle ratio each day you open a shuffle lobby, you'll see many different cars. If you use the same shuffle ratio each time you host a shuffle lobby, you'll see many of the same cars over and over.

It is a myth that the shuffle ratio will ever make the races fair in any way.

I disagree,

One race - yes it's unfair
Over an evening of racing - very fair.

I like it when I get a car I know I cant win with, but try my best to keep above mid table.

Shuffle mode is about racing, not about winning.

im not much into shuffle races, but after i won one race yesterday i was given the heavy audi quatro from '82 where everybody else got light FR cars.
I did not stand a chance against lesser skilled drivers in the second race then as i only could catch up in the corners. As soon as the straight began, they all drove away (and i got slipstream at the start of each straight).
In the next races a winner could never win again (or place within top 4).

I preferred Shuffle races before but as mentioned here, the level of cars are quite boring oftenly. What I actually prefer more now is to use cars from the garage ("open garage" option) and then just pick one option meaning that all users have to use that same car. Then you can actually choose a much more powerful and funny car than what the shuffle provides.
The only option you will provide to the other drivers are the tires and no other tuning will be possible.
With this I get the combination of identical cars between the drivers but also the more funnier cars.

Au contraire! I think shuffle rooms are generally the easiest way to find close, competitive, touring car clean, racing.

Anecdotally in shuffle rooms:

1) The cars (with some exceptions) seem fairly evenly matched;
2) The cars are mostly very accessible (in terms of simple to drive) to a casual racer;
3) Slower overall speed gives more time for new drivers to pick their line and for more experienced drivers to pick their overtaking opportunities;
4) Shuffle rooms generally don't contain as a high a percentage of 'show offs' ("my car/tune/skills/colour and wheel choice rawk");
5) Reverse grids give the consistantly fast a challenge and the slow an opportunity to develop relevant front and rear of the grid race craft;
6) Road tyres increase the chance of people making driver errors either under pressure or unforced.

Horses for courses but I LOVE ME SOME SHUFFLIN'!

Shuffle mode is about racing, not about winning.

Wprd! :)

You forgot one.

7) the chance to drive lots of cars you would otherwise overlook.

Also shuffling is in the spirit of GT games. Nowt as fun as taking the perfect corner, overtaking the clio and the 3.2 a3 audi with your vauxhall vectra!

It's about time PD shuffled the cars they give you for the Shuffle races. Too little choice, there should be shuffle series subsection options, like GT500 or touring car shuffles. Or single car make shuffles, say using only Lotus cars but with varying amounts of tuning modifications done to each of them, so you would get a turbocharged Elise against a Esprit with lowered suspension and so on.

This. I don't want to spend hours figuring out and setting up the perfect car for a given pp level, so shuffle races are perfect for just getting online for a little bit and jumping right into races that are always fun and competitive. The only problem is there are so few rooms doing the shuffle thing; more options could go a long way to making them more popular.
