How does your skill compare from the game to the pavement?

I personally find that I am much much quicker behind the wheel of my Spitfire race car (and even my street car) in real life than the matching cars on the game. How about y'all?

Well since the ferrari is in the shop:sly:, i'd have to compare my 1999 ford explorer P.O.S. Since it tops out at 95 mph i don't think i could beat my lap times in the Peugeot 908, being as it does 230 on the straight.

But i'll tell ya, i hit every apex, every braking marker, and can even pass on the outside on my 30 minute morning work commute in my old honda cb750 👍

I've learned how to beat a GT-R with a Freestar on RS.

Oh, and my SRF glitches in real life.

I like to think I got some sick skills in my 08 Pontiac G6. All 164 hp add up to a surprise for a mustang or two when we have a little red light drag race. Oh the looks on their faces...priceless.

I find very little correlation to my real life driving and racing to that in this game, it's just not that hard core of a sim, but it is a lot of fun!

@Venom: Exactly which Mustangs are surprised by your G6? Maybe some of the older 4.0ltr V6's that put out 210hp, maybe. This years line up consists of a base V6 3.7ltr Duretec 37 at 305hp, the GT with a 5.0 Coyote V8 at 420hp, a Boss Coyote V8 at 444hp and the monster Shelby 5.8 supercharged rated at 650hp...I doubt any of them would be surprised by a 164 hp G6.

The crummy little V6s are the ones. Mostly because I know how to drive it for the best launch. It's not like I'm racing quarter mile tracks. My FF gets more speed off the line faster, and it's got a surprisingly fast 0-60 time at 9.5 seconds. I mean it is a 4 cylinder after all. You should try one out.

I've spent way more time playing GT5 than I have driving real cars....had a provisional for 15 years before I did anything with it! I'm pretty sure I'm way faster in the game.

Passed my test last October and spent the first few months tip-toeing around on well worn tyres with 185bhp, front wheel drive and no fancy diff or traction control. 1st thing I learned about was catastrophic understeer  Thankfully not that catastrophic but there may have been some screaming:scared:

Besides, my car is a Saab 95 so the seatbelt pre-tensioners pin you to the seat if you even think about pulling more than 0.00001 g:yuck: It beeped and bonged at me the other night after some roundabouts on the motorway....no idea what that was about but I don't think it was complimenting me on my line!

My experience is with pretty much every game other than GT5, and racing go-karts instead of actual cars, but I've got a very similar style, loose and fast. Half the time I'm barely controlling the vehicle and more directing where it goes, bu that's only because I'm so much faster than what I usually compete with I spend all my time dicking around.

I have a Ford Taurus wagon that I've pumped a chip, filter, cold air intake and small turbo into making now about 415Hp. That sir, upsets many a jerk that decides to bash on my grocery getter.

And I agree Mustang. Maybe its that I'm not actually in the car to really feel what it can do, or the fact this this is just a console sim, but I am so so much quicker on a real track than I am in this game.

It does surprise me the amount of power they are getting out of smaller engines these days. I used to laugh at that Pontiac commercial that stated the 3800 V6 was a V6 that thought it was a V8...until my daughter bought a Grand Prix GXP that had one. Holy cr*p, that thing was fast! My wife now has an 04 Grand Am GT with the series 3 3800 in it. It will lighten the front end off the line enough for the torque to pull it off to the side, ya gotta watch that little sucker or she will get away from you! Don't tell my wife I drive her car like that tho :sly:

In GT5, I'm not sure. But in iRacing, I am six seconds slower in the game with the Miata at Mid Ohio than I am in real life in my Miata at Mid Ohio. The game's braking system just isn't nearly as real.

Faster in the game. Real life has limitations.

"...But officer, don't you understand? I play GT5!!!" Doesn't work.

And insurance, repair costs, etc.

I got pulled over a few weeks ago. When the officer asked if I knew how fast I was going, I asked "online or offline?"

Got a warning after an explanation, lol. He played GT too.

Same here. I'm definitely faster in the real. As good as these sims are, there's still tons of info you don't get, and most importantly, depth perception and feeling the edge of grip is badly impaired with any sim because of the many limitations they have. However, I can't get my hands on a veyron and tear it up at the nordschliefe in the real

Do you have a DFGT? I totally agree about the braking in iracing, it's horrible. Although I've always assumed it was because of the DFGT's poor braking pedal.

Yeah the stock SRT4 1/4 times in the game are a joke, also the stock tranny ratios in the game for the SRT4 are way off, so much for a simulator, and yes I drive a Neon with a turbo.

Umm well, my truck isnt in the game but, I make quite a few chevy s10 driver upset and make ford rangers crap themselves with my 92 Nissan Hardbody V6 5spd.

The difference for me is aggression.

In the game I am a very mild, very timid. I'm very easy on the car in the game, very smooth.

But when I'm Karting...I am an animal. The difference is night and day. Maybe I have more confidence in a kart because I can drive more by the seat of my pants, but while in a game I'm more skittish because I only have the wheel as feedback to know what the car is doing

I find that surprising, I am much more aggressive in the game. I am not putting 100's of thousands $ of equipment at risk and I can't end up dead or seriously maimed in GT5.

Driving on the pavement is dangerous and most probably illegal, I wouldn't advise it.

I have done a few track days but never on a track that is in GT5 so couldn't compare.

However let me tell you from experience that when you misjudge a chicane ever-so-slightly and wall ride for a few seconds on GT5, it takes a lot less time and money to get you home that night than in real life.

And your girlfriend/wife/partner doesn't hate you quite so much for it when its in the game...

Difficult comparison to make.I raced karts for 6 years competitively, and have done hillclimb & circuit time attack events in modified road cars. Ive been playing Gt5 for 3 months now- and loving it..
I still lack some raw pace racing online against quick guys but I think my mediocre real-life talent is helping me improve. Skill in online lobby seems to be judged by how dirty you can overtake and how quickly you can kick out anyone who beats you.

Speaking of all of this, I had a Corvette Z06 pull up next to me last night revving his engine and what not. So I thought I'd give it a shot. As soon as the light was green he was gone, and I mean gone. After I picked my jaw up off the floor board, I tried to catch up....yeah no luck.

I think that is my biggest issue personally. I've tried every view available and I can't really find one that is truly comfortable to drive with because I'm staring at a 2D screen instead of being able to see and feel all of what is around me. I mean, not to knock on the wheel or the game itself as their both awesome, but its super hard to get in tune with the car that you're driving and put down those fast times.

I think that goes back to the depth perception to an extent. I find myself rubbing fenders with people much more than I would like simply because I cant make use of all my mirrors, let alone look side to side. Of course there is always the "small overly aggressive child" factor and others that are much akin to it.

Actually, there is a control option in the button layout settings for a side to side views.

Doesn't exactly compare with peripheral vision and human sensory depth perception.

I'm much better in real life. Your senses are heighted giving your brain more feedback on what the car is doing. A flat screen TV just can't do that for you.

In GT5 I feel like I am always reactive to situations, in my real life car it's the opposite.
