Well, first post, and I'd like to know how fast I am, compared to everyone else.

I used to be a big GT player, up until GT4. I've had a good few years out, and recently bought GT6. I've just taken a stock '04 Civic Type R around Suzuka, on sports soft tyres. Traction control, and ABS set to 1. ASM, active steering, and skid recovery force off. I'm using a controller, and auto transmission. Best lap so far, is 2:30.027.

I'm not sure whether this matters, or not, but this was done in Arcade mode, time trial.

Enter the seasonal events, that will give you a fairly good indication of how you rank compared to other drivers. be sure to check which cars the top guys are using if it is an open selection event 👍

We could also always use test drivers in FITT over in the tuning section of the forum, we have contests to find the fastest and most fun to drive cars as decided by the drivers. All skill levels are welcome whether your interest is in tuning or testing you will hopefully find something to entertain you

:gtpflag:

Ah, I didn't know they were ranked events. I'll go and check them out now.

Suzuka time, in the stock Civic R, is down to 2:28.662. I think I can squeeze another few tenths out of it when I get my braking markers sorted at the hairpin, and final chicane.

If you're interested in comparing times around Suzuka, there is a member on this site @SuzukaStar who has compiled a list, with YouTube videos, of over 600 different cars completing his best lap around Suzuka. He happens to run his comparison tests with SH tires and no traction control, but it's still a good reference guide.

You can find the post here: SuzukaStar Ultimate List of Suzuka Lap Times. Oh, and as someone already mentioned, if you decide to participate in the Seasonal Events, there are new threads created each week, for each event in the Seasonal Event Forum. Discussion about the particular event, with tips and tuning suggestions (if permissible) may interest you as well. Enjoy!

2:30.0 with the '04 Civic Type R on SS tires is somewhat slow. It should be capable of at least 2:24 but traction control is going to slow you down. Turn that off, and learn how to shift manually. It's the only way to really be competitive.

This is my lap on SH tires, ABS-1, everything else off. The '01 and '04 have the same specs IIRC.

I think she just might be faster than you, by a smidgen. ;)

You're not fast. I don't mean to be rude, but traction control slows you; especially if you need it turned on on an EP3 on sport softs, that means you need to practice. This car really doesn't need traction control even on comfort tires. Also, the auto transmission makes you lose time, and the controller restrains you a lot, though I've seen a couple of very fast guys on pad.

First, try to go on comfort softs with nothing except ABS on 1, and manual gearbox (tip : change your pad configuration to change gears with square and cross and get throttle and brake on R2 / L2). Then, when you're used to that, try fitting comfort mediums or comfort hards. Those tires are the best driving school on GT ;)

Yep, this controller setup should make you faster by a whole second+.

I was using the right analog stick for acceleration/breaking and L2/R2 for gears, but that kinda really sucked once I figured out the above mentioned assignments.

Good luck!

As @VBR said, they best way would be to join the WRS. It's a great community that ranges from GT Academy finalists, to people who are new to the game.

Run the GTP Registry Qualifier if you want to know how fast you are compared to other GT Planet members. They organzie time trials & online racing too.

And welcome to GT Planet!

:D
Only thing, you don't need to do this to join anymore.

If you want easier shifts, use the R1 to up shift and L1 to down shift.

Thanks for that.

Challenge for tonight. Remove the last point of TC, swith to a manual transmission, and try and take 3.5 seconds of my time.

You won't switch to manual and instantly be faster, but once you get used to it, you will be. So don't give up if you keep messing up shifts and you're slower than with Auto.

Aye, it's going to take some getting used to. Realistically, if I can match my 2:28.662 time with a manual trans, I'll be more than happy for tonight.

I'm not saying you are slow, but if you press R1 in the Honda dealership you could have bought a S2000 or NSX

You picked a good Civic. Along with the 2008 CTR it's the fastest mass-produced Civic in the game. I was only 3 tenths faster in the 2008.

Stick with your Civic. You don't need to do a big jump.

That's the plan for now. Although, I do have an S2000, and an NSX for the FR, and MR races respectively. I'm just sticking to the CTR, until I've got the hang of driving quickly on these games again.

Ah, that's good to know.

Though, if you want to learn things, I would suggest you to try the Citroën Xantia. I used to drive that a lot on GT5 : now I'm not affraid of understeer anymore^^

Yes this car is a perfect learning car. The Beatle Cup car and Honda S2000 are pretty good too.

Take the training wheels off and throw some comfort softs on the Civic. Sport softs are way too much tire for that car, the equivalent of racing slicks on a showroom stock FWD car. PD has done some good things with the physics in GT6 and the SS tires are masking most of it with excess grip. You'll learn to drive much faster if you stick to comfort softs or less for most street cars and sports hards for the fastest supercars only.

Just press down on that X button a little more ;)

Aye, that's not a bad idea.

Nah, never used the buttons to do anything. Always used the analog sticks. Thinking I should try the triggers for acceleration, and braking though. That way, I'm not controlling both with one stick.
